  1. Thanks! Just looked that up and realized it's like a Flip. Wow that's pretty nice for a $100 cam. I'm using a Panasonic Z Lumix. Takes great vid but the audio on the stock mic gets distorted at high levels. What did/are you getting to replace it?
  2. sorry, misread that. I was thinking you meant 3"-4". Now I see you are using (3) 4"
  3. Nice! What cam/mic do you use? It's pretty clean compared to most that I see on 'tube
  4. parts express sells the 3" abs tube in 4' lengths. I looked and can't confirm the ID of the aero port tho to be 100% it will match up. Their tube has 1/8" wall thickness. I think I remember you asking about making an enclosure for a 15", and if so I don't know that I would use a 3" port.
  5. Spax screws are real nice. I'm pretty sure Home Depot and Lowes both carry them. I also use #8 drywall or deck screws otherwise.
  6. I always use Titebond II glue. Be sure you have several clamps when you glue it together. You can screw it together while the glue is still wet to hold it together, but I prefer to clamp it and let it dry. Probably want to countersink the screws too, so get a countersink the right size for the screw head or if you are real careful you can use a larger drill bit. You also want to be sure you predrill the screw holes or the wood will split. There is a recent thread on here about glue and glue/screw methods. Do a quick search for it. Don't forget bracing!
  7. What? I work in a ton of different industrial environments. I've never seen that before. What app are you talking about?
  8. I hear ya. I have a bunch of old cups from DCM speakers (don't ask) and usually use those. They are built pretty nice and only a ~2" circle cut. Never had one leak since they have a built in gasket plus I silicone them. Maybe I've just been going about the posts the wrong way

That's weird that you put identical fingerprints on every sub Are you going to do any bracing? That's 150lb of subs on the baffle and a lot of open space. Don't forget to include that in your calculations if so. I found a real nice calculator on port sizing, I'll see if I can dig that up for you.
  10. What's wrong with terminal cups? I like binding posts too, just for whatever reason the ones I've used start to leak after time. Thought about using some washers on the back side to have a larger sealing surface, but haven't done it. Either way, for the love of god don't run speaker wire thru the port. I think it's very lazy and looks horrible. Good luck with the build!
  11. I think they were trying to make the point that you can apply more pressure and thereby a better glue joint by clamping than you can with screws
  12. At my old shop we did some playing around with different cables. This was back when 4v preouts was fairly new. Some cables were better at shielding noise than others. The ends were better made and put together than the cheapy ones. Just playing around this didn't make any difference, but vibrations and bouncing around I've had some of the cheaper ones lose connection. As mentioned, thicker jackets do help protect them. As far as quality, we couldn't see (or hear) any difference. But, with runs over 25ft we did see a bit of signal loss. Not much mind you, we are talking uV. Hardly anything to get excited about. We tested probably 40 some odd different cables with all the same equipment. Ranging from the cheapy cable to stupid expensive high end monster and phoenix gold.
  13. I always predrill, then lay down a bead of glue. Clamp the crap out of it, then run the screws in. Another option you can do is use square stock wood on the inside. You lay that down in the joint, then drive the screws into the square stock instead of into the edge of the mdf. Works really well, just don't forget to take into account the volume it takes up in the box. Also, depending on how big the box is, you may need to do some bracing to keep the panels solid. Good luck!
  14. Oh I follow you now. I tbought you meant 5" height period. Are you going to do an external port?
  15. This gets you in the ballpark. Not 100% accurate on the tuning. Usually within a couple hz tho. http://www.reaudio.com/speaker_box/LPort_Box_Calc.html This is a very good calculator. Be sure when you download you change the file name to .exe or it won't open. When you use a slot port, don't forget to add in the box the shared port walls. I believe it explains it in the help menu. http://cid-1e28f7d3956a626f.skydrive.live.com/browse.aspx/.Public?uc=1
  16. 5" of height isn't going to cut it. The mounting depth of the sa-8 is 5.25" and 8.25" basket diameter
  17. LOL. wtf right? This is very helpful, and much more accurate than the RE calculator http://cid-1e28f7d3956a626f.skydrive.live.com/browse.aspx/.Public?uc=1
  18. My son and I have the enclosure built. Received my sub today and did some test fitting. What I didn't consider was how large the diameter of the basket is. Huge! My original intent was to install the sub in position 1. However, the ribs hit the inside of the wall. It will easily fit in position 2, but it is the opposite end of the exterior port outlet and close to the interior port inlet. Will this effect anything in position 2? Worst case, I can cut a baffle to mount above postion 1 to increase the height. That way I will have the clearance needed. Just didn't want to go to the trouble if it wasn't needed. I appreciate the help! Dave

I hate to be that guy. But I have no idea what is going on. I ordered an SA-8 D4 Wed 1/26. I messaged Jacob to check stock, he said he had the D4, just out of D2. I needed the D4 so that worked out good. I sent my order thru right after in the SSA store. I paid immediatly but said in the status I hadn't paid. I try to call twice, no answer. Send a message thru the store system. Hadn't heard anything, so sent Mark an email. Aaron replies back late Thurs 1/27 that payment was processed. Checked back and it said- "awaiting shipment". I check a couple times in the next few days, still the same. Getting concerned, I send another message thru the store yesterday around 5pm. It's 630 today and still no answer. I need to know if this is going out by tomorrow or not. I need to have it by Friday so I can install it in the enclosure. It is for my son's school project that is due Feb 7. If that isn't going to happen, I need to cancel my order and I will order expedite shipping thru someone else. Thanks for your time Dave
  23. Yes that's what I was thinking. I bought a 4'x8' sheet. I'll have plenty to build another box later on. The X8 looks cool on paper, thought maybe I could get one of those for the next project. I love having more than 1 car Still waiting on my SA8. I ordered Tues or Wed and it hasn't shipped yet. Now I know why your name looks familiar! You have (had) the red crx on youtube. Your Cake video is what convinced me I wanted this sub. Hoping to get started cutting tomorrow.
  24. I appreciate the help! No, this isnt going in the supra. Its 2 seats and a cage with a 4" exhaust. Not much audio goes in there lol. Bromo hooked me up! He tweaked my slot design and will probably go that route. May consider building an external aero for an x-8 if I pick one of those up down the road.
