MT recone q
Sorry Nick... When I was at RE we did have a copper 1.45 Ohm coil that was used from time to time. I have heard they use it more often now as well. Yes, I do have that coil available as well as an 8 layer Dual 1.4 flatwind too. RE never had a D1.4 flatwind only the D1.8-2.0 (as it varied from batch to batch)

Not a problem. We definitely appeciate the business and all your help on the forum. Pics when you get things rolling

thinking about a Q
A standard Q18 will work on that power just fine if you set things up correctly. As for the AA Arsenal 15s... thats a tough call. Both would make for soild setups off of that power. Similar sized overall enclosures. While AA has the surface area advantage, Q has the overall linear swept displacement advantage. Let us know the basic outer dims you have and we can help with the box. Thanks, Scott

Ran My Q's in Street Max 1-2 and Bass Race
Odd... but they could be. I cant seem to find a reason for it though. If you push on them do they feel similar?

soundstream xxx-6500
That power for daily? If so, its a wee bit much if on a 16V setup. I dont recommend more than 2000W to them for daily (your mileage may vary and Im sure others will pop in with their stories of using more than that...)

4 Q's or 2 BTL's
That sounds like itll be a very clean setup. I have always been impressed by the numbers that you pulled sealed. And Im sure at normal levels it sounds clean too... Only issue you will have is finding a 2 Ohm 4kW amp. Cant think of any off the top of my head. But Ill start looking...

What would you put in it
Does she really want things to pound like that? I like the 2 Q15s sealed, but Im wimpy that way. A pair of 12s ported would be louder around tuning than the 15s sealed...
-
QUICK QUESTION
Im figuring you want loud.... Id do the BTLs ported. Qs sealed would sound great, but still not have the same output as the BTLs around tuning...

help choosing
Both solid subs, but the better question is how much power do you have? The SSD is 800W RMS for the standard version and the Aresneal is 500. I think they are pretty equal in terms of SQ and general ability when used within their limits.

pricing
Didnt find the question the least bit rude at all. The audio industry is rather volitile right now and it is a valid question. As for RE, I sold my half of the company to my business partner back in Jan 2006. After that he sold the whole thing to US Amps. Pricing seemed to be readjusted from that point on... they apparelty felt that it was needed given their marketing strategy.

Glad you made it back. How was the Blue Man Group show? It was a pleasure meeting you and your brother... take the images of the tiny little Fi cave with you to the grave Its all smoke and mirrors on the forums...lol

what coils do you have available that will fit an MT motor?
Im assuming this being used for SPL... The slapping is probably the coil hitting the pole. The motors are VERY tight and I designed them for SPL only use. The fact that people like to use the for daily is what prompted me to have two different tolerences for the BTLs. Adding a different basket and 10" spiders for increased excursion wont solve much either. Even with spaced spiders, the motor is too tight for a high xmax solution (I simply didnt design it for that). A longer coil will only create more issues as well. If you are ripping spider packs off the coils (assuming the still build them the way I had designed things) increasing Xmax would probably make things worse. I have the original D.7 (the quad 1.4), a D.65 that is a true dual coil, and the new D1.4 (as the original D2 (1.8-2.0 DCR) can not be made due to wire cracking issues with the high flattening ratio). The MT gap is tight and is set for a specific max coil OD. Since the motors were designed around that, we cant stick many of the Fi BTL coils in them (since I can machine the motors to whatever size I need to for a specific coil). What enclosure, class, and tuning are you using this for? I can see that power being an issue if its in a HUGE enclosure, or in some sort of Extreme 1 bandpass design. Other than that, if properly built, it should take that power. Thanks, Scott

bl sq?
10 cuft net tuned to 30-32 would be great. I like the low tuned BTL setups. People really are amazed at what an "SPL" sub can do down low and how good they actually sound. As far as 3 spiders... with 3kW each, Id stick to the standard setup. At best, going for 5-6 of the softer spiders, but not the original 3 stiffer ones (although 3kW is a fair amount of power and Id still rather see the original spider pack on it). I like the extra bonding area of more spiders on the former. Please let me know if I can help with anything else. Thanks, Scott

my little review of the 18" bl's...
Thanks for the review Please let us know how the sound changes after some break in time. Most people dont know that the BLs have more suspension than the MTs, so they do take a while to loosen up.

Ran My Q's in Street Max 1-2 and Bass Race
Please give it a couple more days and then I can go and make a claim via the USPS. Normally takes 6-10 business days, but sometimes customs gets cranky. I have had things take over 20. Sorry for the delay, but if they do go MIA, Ill make the claim and get you another set out ASAP. How do they sound in general? 25 Hz is ultra low, but its probably not a bad thing either considering the 1200.1 doesnt have a subsonic filter.

Phullie loaded btl 12
Id say no. I personally dont like the fully laoded BTLs off that much power... how much space does he have to work with? Also, please note that those are rather strong amps... but they have a little problem in that the subsonic filter is preset to 28Hz at a shallow 12dB/oct. If you are tuned above 30Hz, I would advise you to get an add on filter to augment this... most have been using the Harrison labs adjustable F-mod with good results. Its a solid margin of safety for $35... given that with 3500W things can go bad fast under tuning. Thanks, Scott

RE makes Fi?!?!
HAHAHA... no kidding. Man I really need to get on all the search engines. We only come up when you type in "Fi Car Audio"... and not for anything else. Im a newb for that stuff... need to get someone to show me how. Although if anyone did decide to search a forum instead of asking the same question 400 times, I dont think that would be the go to answer it is. Being the brunt of a joke still creates site hits though

Nice. Hows it "sound" when played at a normal level (assuming thats not a normal level)? Love the "passenger". Do they let you in the carpool lane with him? Keep us posted.

SSD max rms power
Well I stick to my guns with ratings. Standard SSD is 800W... seem to do great with that. Flatwind hops things up to 1000W... "similar" soft parts to another sub I built for many years and those have always worked well at that. Now with the BP option, that changes things. We have seen 200-500W increases with that... Thanks, Scott

LOL... it was easy. You had a chunk of tofu attached to a string and I wandered off after it...
