  1. x2 Theres this like VW bug or golf that goes to lots of shows in the south that has an inverted 15. Looks cool. Sounds bad.
  2. The most important thing in any install is the box. But there are super subs. A Sony Hex crap speaker is chit next to say a shiva and a shiva sucks for most things next to a XXX. All subs are not created equal. Just like there are crap subs there are super subs. Install/box is the most important thing, but in an ideal setting these subs listed about will preform better then most other subs that are also in an ideal setting.
  3. ive seen and kina played with one. Nothing super amazing IMO.
  4. even today the round solo's are decent if you can find them cheap in good shape or like new.
  5. k, im really really tired today but i'll do that sometime. The programs I use don't really let me do crx boxes though but I can try. -aaron
  6. Definetely very nice. Working on a bunch of 'mini' reviews right now. I say turn this thread into everyone's reviews on these super subs. - Steve Not a bad idea. I know when I was at SD it started to suck mainly cuz EVERYONE would ask which super sub should he ot she get. Almost all the posts in the sub area could have been answered with the info on this page already. I think its fine and good for people to ask questions, but this info will save people from having to ask 75% of those questions. One thing though is if it becomes one big thread, make sure people know who reviewed what cuz spl people will say one thing and sq people will say another. It's nice to know how X person likes say a XXX and EDA next to eachother, thats more helpful then 2 diffrent people, one saying stuff about the XXX and another person saying stuff about the EDA. nice reiview btw steve!
  7. Thanks! already did the XXX idmax and others in another post called supersubs. I really want to hear what people think of the SI's though.
  8. The crossfire is a good amp for lots of people but I did not know mmats was effcient at all. I dont know a whole lot though.
  9. Most of this is not from first hand experince so please correct me where I am wrong. I'm just trying to save people the time they use asking this question. Memphis mc-1000d aka 16st-1000d - So the amp I would most recomend in this price would be this. VERY efficent amp at about 85-90%. Costs about $360 shipped on ebay. Puts out 1100 real rms watts at 1ohm at 13.X volts. VERY small also. I often recomend this to people with Brahma's and subs like it. A large step above JBL and Hifonics. mc is black pearl in color, st is silver/chrome. This amp gets my vote. Great SQ with low distortion also. JBL BP1200.1 - This is probably the most used amp in this range. I'm not a HUGE fan but it is a good amp. It is made decently well. rated at 1200 at 2ohms but people claim it does a good 1300 if not 1400 at 2ohms. They also say that it can work at 1ohm, which I dont doubt, just dont expect any warranty if you do. Not a huge amp but larger then the memphis and will get hot unlike the memphis. This is a cheaper amp at about $200-$250 shipped off ebay. Works ok for SPL and SQ type set ups. Hifonics 1500d - About the same quality as the JBL. May run a little hotter, but it is a tad better of an amp IMO. rated at 1500 at 1ohm, but it does less then that rms. More like 1300-1400 like the JBL. This is stable at 1ohm unlike the JBL and costs about $50 more at $275 off ebay. A decent option, nothing bad about it for the money. It's a good first timmers amp. Also a good amp for cheap spl as it does not have the best SQ. Directed 1100d - Basicly like the memphis only not as efficent, not as small and not as cool. But still better then the JBL and Hifonics IMO. About the same price as the memphis, maybe a tad less. PG 1200.1 - Lots or power for a great price. This amp is fairly efficent, looks kinda cool if your into that look, and puts out some real power. Its rated at 1400 at 2ohms but I know it also works well at 4ohms where I think it does 1200. This is a great amp I would strongly recomend. It's also fairlt cheap at about $330 on ebay. Alot like the memphis onlye bigger, and maybe a tad better made. It is bigger though. A very good amp for SQ on a budget or SPL. AudioBahn A1300HCT - Laugh all you want but the HC line of audiobahn amps is good. Its rated at 1200x1 at 1ohm and does at least that. This amp is not amazingly well made, but it will take a beating with voltage drops and spikes and stay near rms if you ask it to. Not an amp for SQ at all, but if your running say a a RE SX its worth taking alook at this. About $350 shipped. If your into the blingy chrome flame look, this amp is for you. SoundStream PIC1.1400D - Not the highest end amp in the world but for the price, at about $230 off ebay, this is a great buy. Does 1350x1 at 1ohm rms, which is really more like 1200x1 but hey, its cheap. Fairly small also. This is another amp this is made to take a bit of a voltage spike beat up. I would not rate this for SQ vs. SPL but it should meet just about anyones needs ok. And on a side note, Planet Audio, although hard to find is cheap ane very good for the money. They have an amp, the 2250d, which does a good 2200 at 1ohm rms which when on ebay goes for under $300. They also have a 1250 d which is cheap so look for those. hope this helps someone.
  10. yeah you are someone right. Theres a place in either CA or NV that does it. Starts with a "T" I think. Well I think RE does most of the making of subs by themselfs and I know adire just gets them shipped almost done to them. DEI is where the problems come in. They do not have any REAL right to it. Adire and DEI have patents pending, but Adires is about to pass and DEI's is still like a year or more off. I've talked with the Adire guys about it. They think it is kind of funny cuz DEI does not have a good way to produce the magnets needed until its already been made and they have to charge the magnet live. This costs DEI more money and it does not work as well. DEI calls is Dual Gap btw.
  11. Once again, these reviews are bassed of mostly first hand experience Adire Shiva - One word for this driver would be "Tight". At the price of $125 for the 12", (the only size it comes in) this is an awsome sub that will make your ears tingle with joy if you like SQ and low tight bass. These work well in ported and sealed boxes, however they generaly like a little larger of a box then other subs that they compare to. There is no one given rms rating for it but anywhere from 150 watts to 500 watts is good, and yes 150 is enough to make this pound. They can be tuned into the high teen's if thats what your looking for. The new MK 3 is a little beefer then past Shiva's but this is not a "cool" looking sub really. It's kind of plain and dull, and it might look kinda cheap to some but trust me, its not. Adire Tempest - Basicly a Shiva but its a 15" and costs $150. The reason I gave this sub its own thing is that it is a great value for almost any type of set up. Great SQ like the Shiva, great LSQ but this sub gets LOUD. One 15" with 700 watts in 4.5 cubes can hit mid 140's easy which is not bad at all for $150. Great sub here. ID IDQ - Alot like the shiva. About the same in price, maybe a tad more. This one looks like its made a bit better. The SQ is about the same but back to back the Shiva and this sound a little diffrent. Niether is better then the other, just diffrent. The IDQ is maybe a little crisper and faster while the Shiva is Tighter and goes a lil lower. Yet another good sub that I recomend. PG Ti - These subs seem to be everywhere to me, and there is a good reason for that. These subs rock. They are very cheap, on ebay they can be had in any size for under $100. They are about 60% SPL and 40% SQ. Very good sub for someone first system. A well rounded driver that will please most. Kicker Comp VR - The cheapest driver on this page at about $60 each on ebay. This is not really a super sub but it is worth a spot on this page. This is the sub I recomend to people on a tight budget. It's potent for the money. Kicker is not the best name out there but I respect them for the Comp VR and its price. Loud enough and sounds good enough to be worth at least $60. RE SE - The sub I would take off this page. Very good SQ. As with any RE product these are made well and will last a while. Work in a decent sized boxes that can meet most peoples needs. Another sub that is rated for like 700rms but will work fine with 100 watts, but also take 1000 watts if need be (I dont recomend that at all but I've seen it done). These cost just under $200 and are worth it for sure. Pairs of 10's seem to be run by alot of people and those people seem to like em. ED O - I dont have experince with this sub but I'm sure it should be on this list. It's just under $200 which i would think is a great value like any ED product. They look nice also. I would think they are about 65% SQ and 35% SPL. ED has had issues in the past but the O has not had many problems. I'd rather have other subs on this page but this is somthing to look at. Kicker L7 - Under $200 if you get em off ebay. Loudest sub on this page. Lots of people use this sub and think of it as a higher end SPL sub. My take on it is that it plays loud and fairly low but once you tune under about 33hz you start to loose lots of spl and it becomes just so-so in everyway. If you get this sub port it, expect mostly spl that stays loud until its tune point, and tun to around 37hz for best everything. The L5 is ok also but I don't feel like giving it its own thing. There are tons more that fit into this list but these are the ones I recomend the most B) Please add to this list to help people out
  12. i dont know how to put a bunch of pics in one post...sry
  13. Yeah I know my car sucks but I'm 16 and its my first car so I like it. These pics are old though. Things I have done since them: Made the bumpers black like new Took the rear emblems off Washed it lol Finished the trunk so its not bare dynamat and wood stuff like that The main reason I'm decently happy with it is that it's RWD and I can drift it. Yes, I drift an old volvo! real dirfting, not just lame ebrake truns and whatnot. I'm in the middle of making a video of it so watch for it.
  14. wow, i just learned way to much...and its all stuff i've wanted to know for a long time but never seen explained in one place so THANKS!
  15. My take on the "Super Subs" from mostly first hand experince. RE XXX - Loudest LSQ sub when given the power is needs, Very good SQ. If you can fit a larger box over 3.5 cubes and can give it 2k watts its the best bet. If you have about 1k watts or less I would go with the brahma which will get just as loud and sound a tad better. Under $400 shipped which is a good value. Largest of the bunch also, takes a stong person to lift a 15 lol. Adire Brahma - Best SQ/LSQ of the 3. With 1k watts its just as loud as a XXX. Nice due to the fact it can work very well in a huge range of boxes. Adire also invented the technolgy used in the H2, some other dei crap, XXX and some others(XBL^2) and they are the best at using it. Another thing to note is that you really only need about 400 watts rms on a brahma to get it to do what it needs to sealed or ported. 1k is prob what most people use and there is nothing wrong with that, but there is no good reason to give a brahma 2k watts like a XXX. Most $$$ out of all of them which is a downside at about $440. ED 15a - A very well rounded driver. Nothing amzing about it but everything about it is very good. Great price for what you get at $315. ED has had its problems, and I would not recomend buying a used one. They had issues with back ordering, but the main issue with the A's was that the cones would crack and bend and wrap. The new ones use extra foil to make it thicker but still, its not the bext designed sub out there. Orion H2 - Best sub for burps, prob would handle the most power for 5 sec or so. Not biult amazingly well. DEI who owns Orion stole the XBL^2 technology from adire and they don't really know how to use and make it. This sub would not get my vote for anything but SPL RE SX - I've jsut heard a little bit from an RE dealer over the last few days and it seems very very good. One 12 with 1k watts hit 148 on T/L. Thats a better number then a XXX would do, and he said it sounded fairly damn good also. I think this sub will be going places. He got 29mm one way xmax also. DD 9515 - Loudest sub on this list prob. If you can fit the box this sub rocks. Handdles butt loads of power. Works very well for comps but is also prob the best daily driver SPL sub. This sub does not sound BAD but it does not sound good either, its made for SPL and thats what it does. Don't be fooled by numbers like 14mm one way xmax, this sucker is loud. This is a good sub to find used, they go fairly cheap and often have been re-coned recently which is good. Normal price on these is a bit more then the others do dont buy this one new unless you really want to lol. ID IDMAX - Best SQ of the bunch. Not the loudest at all, but sound very nice. Has kind of a diffrent "flavor" to the sound then some other subs in the SQ class. I would recomend using this sub sealed, but ported works, but tune it to around 27hz. Most people would think they could and should tune lower to maybe about 22hz but your just killing loudness by doing that as this sub does not like to drop that low anyways IMO. Can be found cheap also, about 300 on ebay. If you want high end SQ made well that will get loud enough for most people this is a good bet. Note this does not come in 15" right now but there is some talk about a 15" maybe in the next year or so. JL w7 - overpriced trash IMO. I'm not just some RE or adire fanboy that likes to bash stuff i cant afford. This sub sounds like mush to me. The reason people like JL is cuz they have ad's everywhere and pay people to use there stuff. JL is all makreting. Yes the 13w7 has like 7 pantents or somthing like that but just listen to it next to a XXX or Brahma and you will see what I mean, this sub is not worth $300 when you can get the others for about $400. People might hate me for that but its true. RE MT - SPL sub. Honestly I dont see why people would buy this when they can get the SX for a good $100 less, but the MT is still a good value. I do not have first hand experince with it, but I have seen it. Looks very nice. From what I know, it sounds LOUD, besides just being loud it simply sounds LOUD lol. The SPL guys I know who have tested it say it sound decent, but I'm sure an SQ guy would differ. I expect alot of people in the SPL world to start using this sub and like it. This would compare to the DD prob, but sound maybe a lil bit better. Stryke AV - The cheapest sub on this list by far. They have stoped making them for now but they will start again soon. There under $200 and will play lower then any other sub on this list. I know a person who has one tunned to about 17hz in 3 cubes (its a 15) and damn does it sound nice! VERY good SQ. If your looking at the IDMAX or even the Brahma but dont want to shell out the funds look into this. Other subs I don't know much about but should be on this list Alumapro M-16 Eclipse TiPro PG TiE SI D2 MTX 9500 Crystal CMP X2 (?? I think its called that aleast) hope this helps someone.
  16. You don't get out much do you son? Price is 399 + shipping aka price is about 389 shipped for a 15 from a dealer, and if you can find on on the fourms you can prob talk em down to about 370 shipped. I have heard a 15a, XXX 15 and Brahma mk2 back to back but no mag's, hell i did not even really know anything about em till about a month ago (mags that is). XXX - Loudest when givin the power is needs, Very good SQ. If you can fit a larger box over 3.5 cubes and can give it 2k watts its the best bet. If you have about 1k watts or less I would go with the brahma which will get just as loud and sound a tad better. Under $400 shipped which is a good value. Brahma - Best SQ/LSQ of the 3. The new ones use extra foil to make it thicker but still, its not the bext designed sub out there. Some other 15's to throw into this mix: Orion H2 - Best sub for burps, prob would handle the most power for 5 sec or so. 17. Hey. Not exactly the same thing, but I have a stock 80 amp alt and a HUGE group 31 optima yellow top, not the normal small one. I've never had any problems since I did that and the big 3. You can see my equipment in the sig. I have a little bit of dimming but nothing bad.
  18. LOL so true...but yeah...i mean i have like under 30 posts here...but on other sites if you add me up I was/am about 1700 or so and thats just car audio sites, so when I come to a new site like this and im a noob, it sucks...but w/e....
