Representin AA
My car has the simulated wood grain around the stereo/AC controls, etc.. and I actually don't mind it, so that was my inspiration. Baffle is 3/4" baltic birch with Dark Mahagony stain and 2 coats of poly. Has a nice shine and is good enough for a daily driver car as this is NOT a show piece by any means. I'm still in the process of making better angle mounts to get the XT's on-axis, but threw this PVC/carpet one on there for temporary.

Representin AA
I then went to this set up, which lasted all of 2 days. It was better than before, but not unique and didn't do the mids justice.

Representin AA
I'm almost ashamed to post the "before" pic, but I'm more into function than form and the sweet sounds of the poly mids/Vifa tweeter combo made up for it. Aluminum panel is to plug the hole left by my old JBL comps. Not the worst I've ever seen, but pretty unsightly. There's another mid behind the stock grill. I had planned on doing some fiberglass pods, but don't really care for the look of them. Too custom or whatever, just wasn't my thing. Here's what I started with:

Running 100.4 Active
I know you can run the 100.4 active. I "believe" using the SSF to make a bandpass. Does it do that with chan 1/2 or 3/4? The manual doesn't really explain much. Any help or links to a post with that info would be GREATLY appreciated as I'm doing an install for a guy this weekend and need that info asap. Or Mr. Sundown replying and setting me straight is always appreciated.

what do you think about these speakers?
You want them for 2 channel or music/HT? Personally I'd go with the 5 piece set and buy or build a decent sub. Usually subs built in isn't the best set up as placement might not be ideal and you have little choice since they're in your mains. Speakers look good for the $$$. Have you read any reviews on them?

Couple of 1500D's in My Trunk
Thanks, that's EXACTLY what I was looking for. Function first and then decent looks. I'm not a "show" guy, so no reason to kill myself trying to make it look purdy...

Couple of 1500D's in My Trunk
Got a lot of listening time today and I must say that I'm rather impressed & happy with my set up. Getting the XT25's on-axis really woke up my front stage and the remote gain knob is the best invention ever for a sub stage. Gain is set on the amp, so I just dial it back via the remote on certain songs and it blends nicely. Then when in the mood for some serious kick I crank it back up and that big grin appears again. 1500D's are performing flawlessly and at FULL tilt I get very slight dimming at best, and that's with the AC on. AWESOME amps!!!!

Box is 8.5^3 @ 38Hz with 136^2 of port area. I went a little big on the port so I could change tuning and not lose too much port area. I can just make another panel the same size as the right port wall, but 20" long for a 35Hz tune. Slide it into place and add a few screws to hold it in. Make sense? My single HD was at 35Hz, but so far the 38Hz tune seems fine for all the stuff I listen to.

2000 and I'll be keeping it a few more years after all this work. Want an SUV already, but it'll have to wait while I enjoy this set up for a while.

It's kind of a jeckyl & hyde set up. Keep the remote gain knob down a few clicks and it's just nice bass that blends in and sounds good. Crank it up and it's a BEAST!!! Guy at work said it best, "man that's violent". I don't play it real loud all that often as it's too much at times. Nose itches, ear drums vibrate, almost instant headache, etc... but I love the punch in the chest you get from kick drums.

That box is built like a tank, although proper bracing is normally stronger than doubling up the walls. Like the triple baffle. Did you flushmount the subs?

Mine had those also. I just unbolted them before cutting the opening bigger. Was going to weld on metal to reattach them, but the only time the seats are up is if someone is sitting back there, so I didn't bother.

One of my main goals besides being able to have lots of clean/loud bass, was to be stealth and retain use of the back seats. I added a brace across the top/front of the rear deck and built this cover. Kind of like a giant speaker grill as the black is grill cloth. Did a psuedo airbrushed AQ logo. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. Next up is glassing some door pods for the AA mids/Vifa tweets.

I added panels to seal it off to the front and put 3/4" foam weatherstripping on the front, but no pics of that part:

Was a TIGHT fit for sure and I had to temporarily bend up the rear deck to clear the coax's as I was too lazy to pull them out:

Here's the box before carpet/wiring. I wanted an "ugly" install as that's supposed to be louder. LOL But I couldn't stand the way it looked.

Here's a few pics of build/install. Box was built using Trupan Ultralight, awesome to work with and saved around 50#'s over MDF. Box is solid as a rock and has 136^2 or port area. Double baffle and 45's in the corners.

Carpetting job on the box is horrible. I just slapped it on, didn't overlap and trim or anything. I don't pop my trunk for anybody, so it doesn't really matter.

Yep, it's what I had laying around in the garage, so I used it.

Couple of 1500D's in My Trunk
Ordered the 2nd SD to run strapped and power an HD315, but I picked up another HD for CHEAP. Sat on it for a week and decided I needed to fit them both in the trunk of my Altima. Install wasn't as extreme as I thought it would be and came out pretty nicely. Only vibration/rattle left to fix is the rearview mirror. Filled it with Great Stuff, but now the metal arms are squeaking. Otherwise car has over 150#'s of deadener. Here's the "dirty" side of the install. Box is painted white and I planned on leaving it ugly, but it got pretty scuffed up during the install and I had some scraps of black carpet, so I covered most of it. Amps are strapped @1.5ohms and power 2 HD315's in 8.5^3 @ 38Hz. LSQ for sure, but doesn't overpower my front stage at all and I always have the rear fill at the flip of a switch when I'm in the mood.

No problem, you can just send me an amp then We'll be hooking up the amps to a DD9515 when he gets back from vacation. Going into my "old" as in 3-4 weeks box, 4.5^3 @ 35Hz. Should pound nicely. He also picked up a 100.4 to run some active comps. Will be VERY nice when it's all done...

Mach 5 or not...subs and the decision
I listen to a lot of old school rap, RnB, soul, funk, 70's/80's rock and the HD's SQ is more than up to par on all of them. And for those times I want to get stupid loud they put a big smile on my face. Single HD in a ported box would do you nicely...
