  1. A few of my friends have said the h/t because the 4 btls would be too much for them too...one friend heard it for the first time yesterday, got in, gave him 2 sets of ear plugs, he still got out and asked to hear it from outside the car- saying it made his chest hurt. I've got resistance fall of man for PS3-awesome game-and they were saying how much better it would be with some low end to help the explosions and such. I'd have to agree with them. Just checked that link- the 1000 watt looks good to me- thanks a lot.
  2. I believe its been tested to put out around 26-2700 watts. Were you planning on running 1 or 2 of those?
  3. Everyone says the BTLs are better sounding daily than the DDs. I have 2 btls 18s, and they sounded better than a friends 12s I heard earlier. Honestly better than almost every setup I've heard lately. How much power do you have to work with-because the fi BL will handle about 2k daily and sounds good, and the BTL will handle quite a bit more than that. From my personal experience (having pretty much none with DD) I'd go with Fi.
  4. ^ I filled my trunk lit with it not including the mechanical and electrical parts. It made it solid as could be. Filled the rear doors in my yukon entirely with it, enormous difference in rattling, and cheap to do. Hot days doesn't effect it either.
  5. ^ I wish somewhere around me sold kinetic. Might get 2 2500s offline if I could find a good price shipped, but I know my voltage problem is really alternator based (200a alt); no one near me will machine a bracket to fit a 2nd alt, and I'm considering just looking into 2 300a alts offline. I have 3 optima yellows, and a starter I'm considering throwing in there. Great for demo w/ the car off though. Within a month or two I'll have ~ 16000watts though, and I know my electrical system is sub-par for that. Need to get to work on that.
  6. Easiest way is if it sounds like crap. Could check for discoloration of your coils. That's a big geological difference too Here in the south we're like 'all them places to the west is desert n mountain aint they?'
  7. LOL, Great Stuff it back into place
  8. Very nice.
  9. Are you measuring that voltage drop at the amp or at the batteries? Have you measured the voltage while playing loud at the front, then at the rear to compare the two? Either way, as said get another alt to start with.
  10. AZ is a big dif from NC, oh well I would def. wait till your stuff is rewired before pushing it hard again. I'd cross your fingers that everything turns out okay, and hope for the best. Good luck.
  11. Good luck, I know my mids are a bit lacking still, but I'll probably just upgrade the speakers from the CDTs I have now and a 2nd 4channel for the rear.
  12. Honestly, the $500 setup is most likely going to end up being something from CCity or BestBuy, because the wife doesn't want to see large speakers crowding up her living room. As far as my system that will be in the den/game room I just need some suggestions on a good source unit a speakers. You're the second person to tell me about the Crown amps, so I'll check into those for the sub. And I just realized, I need to get something to play vinyl in there. Thanks for the help.
  13. Hey guys, I'm trying to make my first h/t setup. I really need two seperate setups, one to please the wife, and a second for me. I've been into car audio for years, but until recently I was only home for a few hours to sleep, so the car was more important than the house. I'll give you a run down of my expectations and limitations, as well as what I already have/will have/have planned. Expectations: I really want something that's going to sound good, get the full range very well, and not break the bank. I'll probably have to take my time to get everything I want right, but I need to know what to look for. Limitations: My wife. She wants a decent sounding system that'll be 'pretty' for the living room and give surroud sound- pretty meaning not taking up much space. I think towers from floor to ceiling would be fine, but that's not her idea of a nice living room, so that must be saved for the game room/den. I already have a PS3, 42" Panasonic Plasma (1080something) that I want for the living room. I plan on building a coffee table box for a Fi Q 18" subwoofer and finishing it to match the other furniture. Q1- is there a reason not to do this sound wise? It seems similar to many prefabricated designs of a much smaller nature-like many 10s are downfiring in a corner with a port, firing sideways, any reason for mine not to be this way? I would like to power the Q with somewhere between 500-1000 watts, but I don't know what kind of amp, or where to find an amp to power it. I'm soooo tempted to ghetto-fy it and buy a generator to power a car amp I have laying around for it. So I guess what I'm looking for is: What's a decent source unit type/brand I could look for? What type of amp should I look for? Will I need a seperate amp for the speakers-or can I run them from the source unit-and if I do what should I look for? Sorry for asking so many questions, but I'm not really sure what's good in the H/T world, and what all I'll need. Budget on a setup the wife will be happy with (She wouldn't mind a sony wallhanging system from walmart) that will be a little better than what I'd find at walmart, is ~500. Budget on the 'Nice' setup is not really there, since I'm planning on taking my time. I DONT need anything that will make the most decerning audiophile mess their britches with glee, just something that will sound fairly true for a fair price. I would say to try to keep it under 2-3000 but as I said I don't know what to expect, so that is up for change after becoming a bit more educated on the subject if need be. Thanks for any help I can get, it is really appreciated.
  14. Hey bro, you in Fayetteville NC?
  15. That sucks. I'd really wait to buy an amp till the gravy train picks up, but thats not my call. Theres a guy on termpro selling memphis 4ks for 675 shipped- I'm trying to get a few myself but haven't gotten a response. I'm in SC so I dont mind driving to FL to pick them up if I can.
  16. Random...and violent...
  17. I would go ahead and pay someone to rewire 1/0 in there for you. See how it goes from there and decide if you need to take further action. I'd still beef up your whole electrical system.
  18. I would consider giving them closer to 1500w a piece. two saz-3000s or two 4kw amps would be pretty good imo. If you are asking will they sound good on 1k watts each, I think so. My bro's giving his bl a bxi-2006d (2000w) and it handles it fine as well. I'd get the larger amp just because I feel there's never too much power Although RIckRolled is right about the difference being minuscule. Even going from 4 up to 6k watts will only get you around 1.5db gain on a good day, which isn't a huge difference for the price difference. It's your call as to whats loud enough and in your budget. Good luck.
  19. Have the spider monkey test what ohm that sub is showing on each coil with your DMM (assuming it's dvc-ask the monkey). If it's reading right, just get out the soldering gun and work around the mokey poop till you get that thing soldered back on right. Still good-- who knows? See if it works after soldering. Theres a chance it might be.
  20. To me it depends on how quick you want to sell. You can buy a pair of l7 12s off ebay for around 450 shipped. New. This is how a lot of people will compare. That's about 2-225 each new. So I'd sell for about 50-75% of that to try and get it moved. That's your call and what condition they are in cosmetically. I bought an L7 15 last year in a very nice 5cu. ported box for 125-150. Hope this helps.
  21. I think someone said hifonics was having a sale. Could give those things 5k each for ~1600. I'd call them. There's lots of good 3-5k watt amps to be had, whats the price range?
  22. I'd upgrade that whole electrical system, top to bottom. I've seen 5 guage before, but never saw a reason to use it when 0,4,8, and occasional 2guage are the main size you see- and almost all distrobution blocks/fuseholders/terminals work with those standard sizes.
  23. A 15-18" BL does seem to fit the bill nicely.
  24. 'think lightweight' you could consider it your workout as you lift your drill up again and again
