Moofs

So what caught my attention with this sub is the price. I'm not really limited on space but I assume this is just as good as any woofer but a shallower mount. I have two questions about it though. 1. What is the suggested rms ratting for this sub? Is it 500rms like in the name? Or is that like max/peak rms? 2. Also, what would be a very general ported box size for this sub? I'm guessing around 2 cubes tuned to 32hz or something? Thanks!

check out head fi. good site. for ur price M50 are a solid choice. friend has them and they sound great. the bass blend well and the highs aren't over whelming. sound amazing. if u want cheap but In ear. yuin pk3s. I own them and love them.

I have someone more experience then me helping with the build and tuning. I was even told o-scopes dont rly do anything since there is still clipping in most mp3 files any way. Which is most of my music. I only have like 10% of my music as FLAC, WAV, etc. Rest is mp3. So I'll prob tune off the ear tuning for awhile.

I mean when I first install it we are going to tune by ear but set the gains fairly low to be on the safe side, then I'm hoping to find someone in my area with an O-scope.

Thanks guys, unless the 187 comes out in the next month or so, I'll get the Dcon. How can they handle 400rms? I just got a zx400.1 and I heard while they can take that power, its kinda of pushing them. Also, does SSA have any coupon codes for the Dcon or free shipping, something like that?

the reason I want it to play midbass is so I don't have any big gaps in the sound of my system. I don't want my music to sound like something is missing. I already bought components. they are powerbass S5C components. As for the fi X I looked into it in the past and I found no reviews on it etc. and I had a hard time finding it to be any better than let's say a dcon. And just when I though I decided. looks like I might actually consider the dcon. apparently IA is redesigning the 187 so they are kind of haulting the sales of them. at least according to their sub-forum. How does the dcon seem for my need. What kind of box specs are recommend for my goals.

Loud depends on the person but yes, it'll get decently loud. Try like 2.5 cubes tuned to 38hz. Make sure u run that slut off 1 ohm with that amp.

no I don't mean 80hz, I mean anything above it. NOT JUST 80. I'm pretty sure I'll go with the 187 now. u guys got me there. as for box. prob like 2-2.5cubes tuned to 35hz. the reason I ask about how it will sound above 80hz and up, prob set up to like 120hz, is bc no one rly answered it. I know it can be set that high but for this sub, will those frequencies bc heard well. as for the dcon, I'm going w the 187 bc it's cheapest. my budget for my entire system is 500. I'm gonna save where I can. I've heard all good things about the dcon. 187. etc. I know they sound good. so regarding those "opinions I've heard" they are only a few and Im just asking. my only concern is getting the sub to play midbass. Not getting the dcon bc of price. prob not getting the SDC bc of all that's been said here. prob going with the 187 but now I just want to know how strong and clear those higher frequencies will be. I want to know if they will roll off, sound weak, etc. I know the car, enclosure and so on are factors but there should be a general answer. I've heard people say that certain subs "roll off and sound faint" the higher they are crossed since they can't produce those notes well. I want to know if the 187 has this issue.

so from anyone who has heard it. how is the 187 above 80hz. can it handle being crossed over that high or does it sound kinda weak with those higher frequencies.

M5, the main two reasons I'm looking into the AQ is bc I'm under the impression that it can handle the lower mid bass frequencies. or at least play them louder and not roll off. for the 187, will I be able to hear tones above 80hz or will they just roll/fade off? I plan to tune the box to around 35hz and cross it at like 120hz. second reason is budget. I can spend 150 on a sub. max. the dcon is the same $ as the AQ and the 187 is like 130 shipped. unless I can find a coupon code for the dcon I'm not considering it. Plus I hear it's basically sounds the same as the 187.

Thanks! I def appreciate everyones help. He is letting me listen to the SDC's in his car. But he doesnt have access to any of the others. So I can't hear the 187. I cant even find one in my area. So can anyone tell me, It's been suggested by two members to cross the sub over at 80hz. Can the 187 play higher than that or will it just fade out or sound weak/bad. All I know is last time I talked to the guy about the 187 he said we can cross the SDC over way higher than 80hz.

kk, I was guessing maybe around 100-120. So to verify, the 187 will be able to play those frequencies. It wont just fade out or sound weak above 70/80hz? it just seem everyone has recommended to cross it at 80hz so I don't want frequencies above that to be missing. (I feel I'm wording my questions weird)

Thanks guys, I def appreciate the advice. I'll def be the first to admit I dont know much of anything about car audio. The person who originally recommended me the SDC is someone I trust in terms of advice. He has build a ton of enclosures and done a lot of builds. He is one of the main builders for a local car audio SPL team. He personally has used AQ in his car and others along with owning and building for other subs. He was telling me how for example an FI Q he owned, along with other subs, they tend to roll off to quickly at higher frequencies. Which apparently the AQ doesnt. Even searching around I've seen people say that the AQ is better suited for rock. My concern is the 187 will fade out up top or not do as well as the AQ. That basically my only concern. I dont want to miss out on "frequency coverage" in the midbass area by going with the 187. Can anyone tell me at what frequency I should cross the 187 over at?

Well from what I was told from ppl who have the SDC is that the SDC can be crossed over higher. A lot higher than 80hz (which is apparently high for the 187) and can cover some of the mid bass that will be missing from the 5.25 speakers I'll have. I mean I'm basically looking into the SDC bc im told it can play higher (into midbass territory) than the average subwoofer, where most will roll off or sound to quiet. I'm getting it to cover up the gap in sound I wont have/will be lacking. Thats the main reason. Can the 187 do this? B/c from what I hear it can, but not as well as the SDC. Keep in mind all my sound will be coming from 5.25 components.

I just want something that sounds good, or better than the avg. stock system. I'm not looking for an insane SQ system or an SPL system. I just want to upgrade my car's system and have something that will work well with both rock and rap. Keep in mind I'm limited on cost, my budget for the whole system is 600 and I only have 300 to spend on a sub/amp. The SDC doesn't make any sense for your application IMO, exactly the opposite of what you want. As for the 187 or Dcon, curious why/where you heard that the Dcon had an issue with lower mid-bass and do remember that EVERYTHING is install and enclosure dependent. Would u be able to go into more detail about why you dont think the AQ is good for me? To be honest, the main reason I'm looking at the AQ is to fill in that mid bass gap. I just dont want a system that will sound like something is "missing." I was told the SDC can be crossed over higher than most subs, especially since likes those higher tuned boxes. The sub needs to be able to play kick drums, bass guitar, etc. Something that sounds good playing rock, not just rap songs. Can any of you tell me how high I can crossover the 187 in a ported box. I have had the LI and DR series from IA and they are very transient. I am a metal head so they fit my sq perfectly. Follow the IA box specs for the best results. Good to know, I found a kicker ZX400.1 that would work good with the 187 so I'm gonna look more into that route.

so I'm between the SDC2.5 and 187 now. I want to use a ported box. For the music I listen to, what would it be best to tune the box to and how high could I setup my LPF? Someone said 80hz, but can I go higher than that or will it start to sound bad? I've heard of ppl setting AQ to like 125. But it apparently plays higher.
