Quick build of box for SA-8 in center console
Okay, so as I'm waiting for my SA-8 to get here (as patiently as I can!) I'll put the build of my center console box for it. It's an old beater minivan for my everyday vehicle, but I'm just trying to have some fun. I don't have the area or tools to do the kind of work I'm used to being able to put out (maybe I'll share some of those pics sometime) since I'm working on some flimsy stands with a jigsaw, circular saw, and sander, but it'll do for this project. And so I begin... The wood...good old 3/4" MDF The sides cut out Test fit of sides

Thought you guys might find these interesting for a 3" driver!
I am more likely to try a 3-way setup with a 6 1/2" or 8" midbass plus a midrange and tweeter myself than a full-range driver. Just thought the specs were pretty crazy for a driver that small.

That was my thought...with unlimited funds, it would be a fun project!

So, I was browsing around on Parts Express, and found these.... http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=296-220 ...I am sure from the $170 (each) price tag they are some amazing little drivers, but still the specs amazed me...12 mm Xmax and supposedly flat response from 40-20000 Hz...in a 3" driver...CRAZY!

150 on music goal
Totally agree, 150 is good no matter what. Back when I competed (1995-1996) it took a lot more. Granted, the subs are soooo much stronger now and amplifier power is MUCH cheaper to get a lot now, it still took me 12-15" subs and a U.S. Amps VLX-200 to do over 150 with Flashdance (and that set a USAC Legal SPL record in it's class that year) so I have much respect for people doing numbers with very little equipment now.

ESX and ZED branded Zed amp pic's. Who has some clean ones?
It's hard to tell from the pic since it's installed under my seat, but it's a Planet Audio P1002...I'm just pissed at myself for selling off all my old stuff years back, like a Series VII Boltar and Olympus, and Autotek 7100 and 7050 BTS...not to mention the Blade Technologies M1002, two M502 and M252 plus the old 225 HCCA's I sold for a song back in the day!

Is A Wall In My Car A Good Idea?
I think a wall in ANY vehicle is a great idea!

why u wont help why u want deleted
WOW....You just don't get it...he's telling you to GO AWAY!
-
why u wont help why u want deleted
Not to speak for him, but I believe he is trying to tell you he no longer wants your business, which is his right as a business owner. He does not feel comfortable with your situation and believes you would be better off getting an enclosure elsewhere. Telling him over and over you want it shipped to your friend in the US is NOT going to change his mind...

I would imagine Malaysia has to have some kind of car audio shops around...lol.

addicted again.....
It is nice to not be a real "newbie" at this isn't it? Lol. Us older guys, even if new to this forum, hopefully have some experience to help the younger ones learn. Hell, some of us older guys still learn more every day too!

I'm right there with you! I'm already planning a new system for a car I don't have yet!

ohio?
Hopefully as the economy gets better, people will spend more at shops, and they in turn will hold more shows/competitions. The only other way would be if more manufacturers would help sponsor events (though it's not likely since their sales are down just as the shops' sales are)

ohio?
It's going to be slim pickins' if you aren't willing to drive very far. There was the Columbus one, and a Mansfield one yesterday, and Elida today. There are a few in Cincy here and there. You'll just need to go on DB Drag's website and see when they are scheduled. There really aren't any USAC, IASCA, or much MECA around here anymore either...

New to the Game
I actually don't think you sound like a dick at all, Alton. Even though I'm a "newbie" on this forum, I was an installer for many years and have been around it for what seems forever. As a matter of fact, an old friend of mine and I were talking about a lot of this at a show today. Part of the problem is how many people have unrealistic expectations as to what their system will do, without understanding the costs involved. (Not to mention time and work.) It's much "cooler" to spend on the huge amp and big subs, but very few want to spend the money to support it from an electrical standpoint. Big power is much more affordable now than it was back when I competed, (back in the mid 90's) so it should be possible to get a great setup for a reasonable price. Now that my rant is over too, I must admit I have no experience with the subs and amps that are talked about so much on this forum. But by reading the various reviews and opinions from all these members on here, I chose to order a Sundown SA-8 without any previous experience with them for my daily driver. (Can't wait to receive it!) There seems to be a great deal of good information from the members here, and hopefully newbies such as MrDonk (and even me to some extent) use the wealth of knowledge on here to make smart purchases so they can be as happy with their systems as many of you seem to be! And one final note, thanks to everyone here who welcomed me to this forum, it's nice to feel like I have a group that has the same "sickness" as I have had for such a long time!

help on box for s10 please
I haven't owned one myself, but from my past experience installing in many extended cab trucks, I always found firing subs down seemed to be a good balance between sound quality and output, with less loss when you close the doors/windows. Just my thoughts...maybe someone who owns one may have tried a few other options as well...

SA-8 pre-ordered, time to build a box!
Yeah, I'm definitely not a person who's overzealous with the gains...I've done a lot of SQ competing in the past with WAY more power than most of the speakers were rated for without any problems, so I should be fine. I am just excited to see what that little beast will do after hearing all the great reviews on them!

SA-8 pre-ordered, time to build a box!
Just pre-ordered an SA-8 to play around with...can't wait to receive it! Gives me time to build the box. From what it looks like, something like a .75-1 cu. ft. ported around 34 or 35Hz should be a good starting point for good sound/efficiency right? Planning on running about 450-500 watts to it.

I hope so, if it's what I believe it will be, I may just have to order more later!

New to this forum, but not audio/competing/installing....
Yeah, I get that Ohio thing a lot...lol. It looks like this forum is more along the lines of what I crave...I go on Termpro's still, but most of the others out there are kind of annoying... Hope to learn a little more about the new stuff, I've built some pretty serious vehicles, but the equipment available just keeps getting more insane every year I'm away it seems...

Newbs pleeze read b4 posting
I'm definitely not a newbie to audio, but doesn't mean I can't learn from you guys! Glad to (hopefully) join you all in some great discussions about audio!

New to this forum, but not audio/competing/installing....
Hi, I'm Mick, new to this forum, not to audio...was an installer for about 16 years. Done a bunch of huge installs, including all the show vehicles for the shop I was at. Been out of it a couple years, and just miss the scene....Actually came on here because I was looking for a new sub to play with for my daily driver...just pre-ordered a Sundown SA-8, really intrigued me. Anyways, hope to get involved in some discussions on here, really love to talk audio!
