Which Sub
I'm not worried about the power, my main question was should i just get a btl, and underpower it until i could afford a second amp, or just get two smaller q's for the sq.

15" SSD + Flatwind Review
just don't show it off too much or else you will come out of school to meet our all so hated common enemy, a broken rear window and trashed car.

Which Sub
I have always wanted a 15" or bigger sq sub, but my problem is that the amps i want i can't get due to always being on backorder, so the amps i have settled on would easily overpower a Q 15 Dual 2 ohm vc sub. Scott is there anyway the sub would handle ~1800 clean watts, or would the btl be a better choice? and go with ~3600 watts. Unless there is someway you could make me a Q to handle more power. I dont know if it would be an issue, b/c its not like i would be playing it full tilt all day, just at shows and comps for brief periods of time. The proposed box size is 4.8 ft^3 net, grossing just barely over 4 cu ft, with 48-54 sq inches of port tuned to 31-32 hz. The two sub amps i am looking at are the Sundown SAZ-1500 (maybe the 1000 if i can get it on pre-order) or the Us Amps M2.d2

It called my name
- new again? haha
welcome back, glad to see a member soo close in ny.- what can an m2.d2 handle?
If i went with an M2.d2 it would be overkill for an Fi Q, but if i ran 2 Fi Q's at a .7 ohm load, i am wondering if the amp will put out 2kw @ 14.4v, or would i have to run one of them at 1.4 ohms to help the sub out a little.- Free stuff :)
grim where are you in western ny??? im in eastern ny, but i would love to hear your set-up sometime? oh yea, and i finished it too, but no hurry.- Possible Changes to Warranty Policy
Hell, I'm in sq and i agree with over kill on wiring etc... I would rather spend the money and do it right than cheap out and sell myself short, sure 70 dollar interconnects aren't cheap and only work a fraction better than 40 dollar interconnects, or going with 1/0 power and grounds even though i only had a 1000 watts and the lowest impedance any of my amps was running was 2 ohms. I would still buy a sundown amp even if it wasn't warrantied down to .5 ohms just because i know that it can handle it, and it was built well. It's amps like Memphis and kicker that i don't like because when you call up to ask them how low can you go even if your voiding the warranty, they won't help you one bit. I would say keep up with the great customer service, and pat yourself on the back for building amazing product. Get those inexperienced whiners off of your back and keep your head in the game. I would love the warranty, but being competitive with these car audio products already knocks away most of my other warranty's (from other companies) and I am cool with that.- Not the right place
search it, i know there was a post about it sometime, might have been lost due to the server crash though.- what can an m2.d2 handle?
I might be getting a us amps, merlin m2.d2 for my fi Q, just wondering how low of an impedance it can handle. Seeing if i can get 2000+ watts out of it @ 14.4v.- Just received my 12" Q
Here, fixed it for ya! You didn't fix it for me, i meant what i said. In theory a properly built ported box will be cleaner sounding than a sealed box, at any given output level because for a sealed box to play at the same output level you are requiring more power and thus the amplifier is doing more work and creating more distortion, and the subwoofer is working harder, and therefore creating more distortion. Lets look at it this way: ported enclosures are more efficient, more efficient speaker systems are cleaner, that is why compression horns are viewed so highly in the sq world. *note that i said a PROPERLY BUILT PORTED ENCLOSURE, the ultimate enclosure for sq is infinite baffle for sheer frequency extension, but is even more complicated to build properly than a ported enclosure. So there clarified and fixed for myself- SAZ-1500D POWER TESTING
in the strapped amp test, was that .35 per amp for a nominal load of .70 or .35 nominal, if so that is crazy. .175 ohms per amp, ouch.- Build Log
How do you like the Eclipse CD 5000, and the Rainbow front stage. Liking it so far, what size alt do you have?- Just received my 12" Q
A properly built ported enclosure will sound better and louder than a sealed enclosure.- Free software for drawing up an enclosure?
my personal favorite software is called pencil and paper, i can take it anywhere.- who all compete's with FI subs? what organization and burp or musi
after i get my Fi q 15 and amplifier situation figured, ill have to post some numbers for you guys off of the tl in my backyard *Audio Obsessions* Hopefully over the summer i will be working with Audio Obsessions to host a Db event in the near future.- Got my (2) ssd12 box designed
awesome job on that box, love the rounded ports.- Clean Power
As of right now my plans are: HU- Eclipse cd8455 Amps- Diamond Audio D7054 (for compression horns and rears) Eclipse Ea4000 for front components Sub Amp- Undecided, leaning towards DD m1a due to price Sub- Fi Q 15 Dual 2 ohm Front Sound stage- Hertz Space k6l components Horns- Image Dynamics CD1 Pro Rear sound stage- Hertz ECX- 165 co-axials Sound Dampening will be provided through an array of second skin products. Wiring will be through an extensive array of Stinger products Kinetik Hc 1400-1800 under the hood Irragi or Excessive Amperage H/0 Alt.- What do you guys use for boxes?
Do you suggest doubling up for a 15" q on around 1200 watts 4.5 internal net (closer to 3.5 gross after port and sub displacement) tuned to 30hz.- Shawn I sent you a PM

PM me a price, and I'll let you know. As for the Rockford amps, never been a big fan. Love the smaller names in audio.- Sundown amps and Fi subs?
How many people run Sundown Amps on Fi subs, has there been any testing of the 1500d on the Fi subs?- What do you guys use for boxes?
I went to home depot today, and the thickest mdf they can get is 3/4". Does anyone sell 1" mdf? Also what do you use to cut your boxes? Jig Saw, Table Saw, Circular Saw? What do you use to cut the sub circle? Jig Saw? What type of screws do you use. Coarse Dry-wall screws? Etc... I tried to build my first box, and it came out pretty miserably. On sub is flush mounted, the other on isn't, lol stuff like that. And the box was port starved, woops. - new again? haha
