clipping could be a problem, i wouldn't rule it out. have you taken the sub out and see if there is anything physicla with the sub that you can see??

so you're setting the gain but how?? i founf with my eclipse deck i couldn't turn the gain down far enough to not clip(you would think that if the gain is down all the way it wouldn't clip right?? WRONG!!) i had to change it to the mono subwoofer setting on the deck and even then the gain was still all the way down and it would clip slightly. reset your gain using a dmm or an oscope and see if that helps. but just because your gain is only 1/4 of the way up doesn't mean it's not clipping. plus you wouldn't be able to hear it if it was at that volume.

i hate all the this versus that posts. i mean opinions are cool and all, but if you use the search button on say four forums for each sub then you can get a general idea. people that have 40 posts and start 15 topics on what would be better or louder just irritate the hell out of me.

i would say also that switchinf your sub amp wouldn't really give you a noticeable gain. if you're concerned with the power just turn the gain down a little bit. and can some explain exactly what biamping is lol. i think i know what it is but i want to be sure.

i'd unplug the sub and then use the dmm sorry for being unclear. that will give you a constant voltage.
