i will be redoing my install in a few months and wanted to know if maybe i can color match the amps with the color of the car... not really gonna be going to shows just a personal preference, i think the amps would look sick painted... new set up will be 2 15 ns, 2 1500s, and a 100.4, the box is getting built by pete which we havent worked on the details yet but he stated that we might go the horn route... i have a good bit of room to work with, enclosure space to work with is 16 high, 42 wide, and 30 deep... also i have a ohio gen 180/225 alt and getting a d3100 to replace my 2 dekas ( which i plan on selling).

thats the thing i set the volume once during installation and it never goes over that specific volume

yeah exactly... one of my ns 12's burned up the dustcap, spiders, but tinsel and coil is fine... the other woofer is perfect. no distortion whatsoever... subs only 3 weeks old. i sent a pic to jacob and he couldnt figure it out either... i'll post some pics of the damage... but i really wanna get into doing my own installs for now and learn a lot more than i know... so i figured getting my hands on some equipment would be a good start.

i am looking for a decent reasonably priced o scope for personal use on my next set up and future sets... what brands to look for???

the rubber jacket on the wire... i dont know if the wire touched the sub when it caught fire or not...

coils look good to me... is it possible for it to show damage only on the inside of the coil... because the outside is spotless... and jacob, it looks like i will be getting those 15 baskets and recones real soon... but first i have to find why the sub blew so i dont fry another one... i am pretty new to car audio and i'm kinda treating this as a learning experience... when we installed the system we check the settings on the hu and the amps were set correctly as well only running maybe 1000-1200 a subs in reality im thinking and the other sub is fine... just puzzled on finding where my problem was... i also noticed that one of the speaker wires in there the skin is a little burned too...

coils are fine not burnt at all... just as the other is... the only things that are burnt are the cone, dustcap and the spider. did not effect the other sub at all, only been playin for 10 mins when it happened and i've played it longer than that before with no problems... just cant figure it out... i'll try to put up pics in a few days or i can send them to your email sundownz.

the tinsels were fine... still silver in color and vc looking good as new... and why wouldnt it affect the other woofer? i had the system on for maybe 10-15 minutes just commuting to the other side of town.

BAD NEWS.... i was driving over to the other side of town to visit some family and i had the subs on very low at thw time and through the 10-15 drive, the last 2-3 minutes playing them, someone yells they see smoke in the car... i look and at the most i thought it would is some of the glue melting because i have only been running them for about 3 weeks, so i pop the trunk and one of the woofers are on fire... i took the box out, waited for it to cool and a hole about an inch wide melted from the cone to the dustcap and the spider was burned as well, but the voice coil is fine as well as the other woofer... what would cause this....

the reason i am tossing back and forth about reconing to 15s is that i wanted pete to build me a box to pick up the lows well and also maintain to be flat from 20 to 80 hz, he was stating he would need about 4 cubes per, but isnt 6 cubes recommended for these ideal size? i love the way they sound now... no one in my area thinks that 2 12's can do so much...( im in kicker and pioneer country down here, other than josh the sundown rep in town... im one of the only ones that know sundown exist YET). just wish my box had more range.

the notes i'm missing is the lower notes mostly, and of course some songs the high bass notes dont beat as well as the the rest of the notes.

damn... i bought my subs from the sale too... i do plan on getting a diff box made from pete when he gets a chance. it's very loud now, but i'm always wondering, wont know how loud until i meter which wont be until june.

anyone who is running or has ran 2 12 ns's on 3000 input would be great...

currently i run 2 12s off 2 1500ds... i am am having issues with wheter to stick with the 12's or change baskets and softparts to 15's... but before i go that route i wanna know how loud can 2 12's get in an optimal enclosure to acheive a little more loudness and range from these subs. as of right they they are crazy loud!!!!! but you always wanna a little more to see what these beasts can do. i've been talkin to pete about another box for my tweles and possibly 1 if i choose to recone them... we were working on a design that will have the subs drop as low as 15-20hz and still sound good all the way up to 90hz (daily beater) the box i have now is 4.4 cubes @ 35hz and really misses notes here and there and on some songs just dont sound right. would it be a big diff in switching from 12s to 15s? also if anyone can recall any builds similar to mine please chime in. thanks

true... even thogh my 12s are pretty loud as it is.... i still may go that route.

just a correction to my previous post.... reason that it wasnt sounding right is that one of my speaker wires slipped out... popped it back in and 10x louder!!!!! this setup is louder than my 1 15 BTL.... thanks.

I have a question?????????????????????????????????????? How are you going to re-cone a 12 to a 15 It's still a 12" basket???????????????? and you want to use Lexine not Plexi i'm changing baskets as well... thanks for suggesting lexan too.

also i am shooting for 6 cubes @ 32 hz by the way... same design just the placement of subs and plexi swap. dimensions i have to work with are 17h 40 w 24 d

everytime i come to the ssa forums i always come to check out this box http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/forum/i...showtopic=22072 ... i will be running 15 nightshades soon as i get the 12's reconed to 15's. that box is ideal of what i am trying to get built but instead i want my subs and port facing back with the plexi windows on top... my zip is 70501

i was thinking that as well... and i can probaly recone for a total of 200-250 than rather find another old stock ns, buy another 1500d which would be tough to find a stock shade. A++++++++ products none the less!!! the car im runnin in is a 2002 cadillac deville, nice sized trunk, just need to give it some thought on placement and using the space i have to my advantage (2 dekas, 2 1500ds, new amp rack, and a new battery box). hey Nightshade what enclosure you running? by the way... Sundown has the BEST ustomer service that i have had the pleasure to deal with! Keep that up and i'll be beatin until im 80 haha

currently i have 2 12 nightshades in right now, and when the big sale on the 12's were going on a few months ago, i paid for two and put 200 down for 2 more when i was looking at getting a bigger car... my question is would i be louder with maybe buying another 1500d and pay the remaining 85 to take one sub or put the money towards upgrading them to 15 baskets . so.... 3 12 ns on 3 1500's or 2 15 ns on 2 1500d's(also i really like the sound of 15's) my last set up was a btl 15 on 2 1500ds in a chambered t-line and that set up equally if not more louder than this set. current 12's are in a 4.4 cube @ 35 hz. when the decision is made, pete will be building my box, always wanted one of his designs...

yeah i already did the mdf part... so just any old silicone would be fine... any brands to look for.

when i put the subs in about two weeks ago the box slid back towards the trunk lid while being played and caused a crack in the surround on one of em. trying to avoid getting a recone b/c the sub plays fine, just thinking about the longevity aspect another question is that im thinking about getting another box made along the lines of 3.5-4 cubes @ the lowest possible tuning and still get loud. i was thinking 30 hz for these beasts.

should i start to smell the subs already, i just put em in tuesday and i was playing em last night and smelt something funny, no smoke though, is this normal?
