Well I finished my brothers car stereo. I installed 2 ESX amps a 175.2 for his front end and a 275.2 for his subs. All I can say is WOW!!!! We have the setup right now running at flat yet we will be tuning it soon. These amps are just wonderful. I have had some ESX amps in my cars before yet never an install like this. Simple yet very effective.! We have 6.5's in the doors with tweeters as well as 4 incher's in the dash. There are 2 JBL's P1220II at 2 ohms in a sealed box in the rear. The car is a 1997 (i think) VW Golf hatchback. The sound that these amps produce is just crystal clear with enough power to make me and my brother happy. I wonder how it will sound when we tune it properly. Anyone else run ESX amps?

http://ampguts.realmofexcursion.com/Autotek_7100_BTS/ That amp is rated at 50X2 @ 4 ohms, but it's really personal preference. If that's enough for you, it's fine. Personally, I'd use something like that on mids and highs. I would agree, you can try it on your subs in stereo or bridged mode mono and see what it can do. It's underated yet it will not be earthshattering on your subs. Use it for your front end and it should be fine yet it all depends what your application is and also your expectations. Good luck buddy...
  3. You should be fine to send your amp to Zed for repair. I wonder what happened to your amp. I have several ESX amps and they are going strong. I have a couple of the 4 channels still new in boxes, maybe one day I will install them. Good luck and let us all know what happened to your amp, i'm curious...

make sure if you are going to buy one it's the one that does not have the light up light on the top of the amp. Only the U.S. Acoustics amps with no light is zed made. Good luck.

    Zed made subs?
  7. Don't think so. Zed Audio only made a few of their amps to be stable lower than 4 ohms. Sorry buddy, I guess you could send it to Zed and maybe they can upgrade it somehow. Good luck!.

I always fuse my amps regardless if they have internal fuses or not. It's better and easier to replace a AGU fuse at the power block than an internal fuse. IMO.

Stick to something that is actually made in the U.S.
  11. does this one count now.
  12. If I could I would. I don't know why it does not let me. Maybe I don't have 10000000 posts or something like that.
  13. Since I don't have priviledges to post something for sale here is my attempt. ESX old school amp for sale- Big one Hi Everyone, I have an ESX 120.4 the big daddy of amps from ESX for sale. This is my pride and joy, I never thought I would sell any of my ESX amps but I guess it's time. The ESX amps were the cream of the production from Zed Audio. Steven Mantz said himself that they were way too advanced amplifiers for their time. I think even for today! I bought this amp a while ago yet never installed it. It is used yet in good condition. It is made by Zed Audio. It works great and I love it yet I have way too many amps and bills to pay. 120 watts x 4 at 4 ohms 180 watts x 4 at 2 ohms 360 watts x 2 at 4 ohms 360 watts x 2 at 1 ohms true mono 800 x 1 at 4 ohms. I will include a copy of the manual as you will need it to set this amplifier up. This amp is a very underrated amplifier not to mention the possibilities at anything more than 12v. This amp will accept Balanced and unbalanced inputs up to 16v. It also has a built in xover. Real old school power at it's best. Note that the power ratings are at 12 v so i'm sure it will produce more at higher power supplies. This amp is in great condition and works excellent. There are no issues at all with this amp. Whoever wins this amp will be very pleased with it. I reserve the right to end the auction early as I'm selling this amp locally. Payment must be received within 3 days from end of auction. Any questions feel free to ask. Pictures will be posted this evening. I'm accepting offers please don't low ball me. L. Looks like this one (which is another one that I have). Send me an e-mail if you are interested at [email protected] Located in Toronto Ontario.
  14. -When you walk through futureshop or best buy to pick up pictures and go to the car audio section with your 2 year old and they can stop and find the "amps" on display and say. "look daddy amps"!!! Happened to me with my daughter. -Your UPS guy injures his back lifting a sub you bought. (Huge JBL). -Closet nothing whole section of the basement is dedicated to car audio. -Wife has actually stated lets finish the basement and give you your own huge closet/racking for your amps! -You are known by your freinds as the amp man or amp guy. -You can't fall asleep because you are thiking on how do to your next system. -You sell amps for top dollar yet would never pay that much for what you just sold, even if you think the item is great and worth it. -You have to sell some items to pay for items you bought which you have no extra money to pay for them. Story of my life.
  15. if anyone is looking for old Zed amps like hifonics or esx or crunch just send me off an e-mail to [email protected]. I have a few that i might sell if the price is right.

I am running 2 CR50's and one CR50SHC. In fact, sent the SHC back to Zed to have the wiring re-done for the first time since 1992. All of the are awesome amps... I'd be willing to purchase the ones Cutra has! Hmm well I might be selling some. Yet I already have 2 guys thinking of buying one. Money talks.... remember these are BRAND NEW! send me an e-mail to [email protected] if you are serious.
  18. That statement cannot be categorically made. There are a ton of excellent amps out there that are/were painted or powdercoated. Most of the US made amps in the late 80's early 90's were painted. For mass production, annodizing is easier to get consistent and cheaper. Ok, than let me rephrase my previous statement. Painting your amp can change its thermal dissipation, so make sure that you ventilate it adequately. you're not going to put 15 coats on it, so you shouldn't worry about 1-2 coats From the looks of it. it looks like the amp for some reason is primed with a flat black paint. i think i'm going to strip it down first see how it looks bare then i'll think of painting it. What do you think?
  19. OH ok then how do you anodize? Who does it?
  20. Has anyone ever had any success painting or powerdercoating an amp? If yes how did you do it or who did you take it to? let me know. please
  21. Haaa, that was my amp I had and unfortunately I sold last year. It's a sold amp buddy. stable down to 2 ohms in stereo, yet i never drove mine too hard as I did not own it for long. Enjoy yours. Leo
  22. Yeah, I asked Steven Mantz last week and he said that they did make one yet they are very rare. I have yet to see one or find one.
  23. Thanks guys, yet i have found one yet i need more. Has anyone ever seen the line driver for the ESX?
  24. Hey Denim, let me know how it goes. I have never seen any of the new Zed amps in a car up here in Canada. Are there any as powerful as the older zed amps? They look more like really good sound quality amps.
  25. I will be installing an Ulysses amp in my car this spring and then maybe replacing it with an ESX 60.4. I convinced my brother to go with ESX amps the old zed ones. Hopefully he will now see how good and powerful they are. I'm going to start him off with a 175.2 and if that is not enough I'm expecting a 275.2 to arrive soon. Mind you I don't really want to give him either of them yet he is my brother.... Does anyone else have any old zed in their cars? Currently I have a hifonics Gemini vii doing my entire system and it's pretty damn good. I'm almost totally satisfied with it. Just no real earthshattering bass yet with 4 8's it's good for now. L.
