Yeah, I have decided to go with the OA... I listen to A LOT of dubstep, some rap, and occationally some classic/alternative rock and I love the way lows...So I'm thinking this is a good choice.

Alright, right now I am in the market for a single 15 inch sub. I have a clean 500w to work with. I was considering three different subs. The Sundown E-15, the SKAR IVX 15, and the Obsidian OA-15. I am looking to get something under $180. So far I have somewhat disregarded the sundown for a couple reasons. One being the skar and obsidian like the lows a wee bit better, and, just out of personal preference, I kinda want the rubber surround (what I have now). I'm leaning more toward the Obsidian... probably because of its longer throw, and larger/stronger magnet. I don't want a DCON... just saying that now. So, for any of these subs, they will end up going in a ported box built to spec tuned to 30Hz. For anyone wondering, I am currently running a Rockford Fosgate P2D412 sealed. Bottom line question is, which will be loudest on 500 watts? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

One E-15 D4 @ 2 Ohms on 500w in 4 ft^3 @ 30Hz with one 6" aero (17" long) which is 7.1 in^2 port area per cube. That's a really small port. Plz read Jacob and I's convo further up the page to understand why.

Alright, well, for a build I am going to be doing I can choose between 2 4" aeroports, or 1 6" aeroport. When I put the 6" into WinISD it tells me a length of 23.25" is needed for my tune. And when I enter 2 4" ports it tells me I need a port length of 21.5". Now, is that a combined length between the two ports? Or does each one need to be 21.5" ?? Thanks for your help.

You can absolutely tune to 28-30 Hz, no problem ! Honestly 12.5 per cubic foot is too much for these daily. As they are a smaller motor driver they won't pressurize the port like a bigger motor driver... you would be more on par with 4-8 in^2 per cube. Which is anywhere from a single 4" aero-port to a single 6" aero-port. The smaller port will have a broader bandwidth as well. Thanks for the reply! And sounds good. It'll be some time before I get it. Every paycheck I get is gone soon as I get it haha. Saving for a car. But, I already have the amp... Its a Fosgate R500.1. Sorry I'm rambling, lol, I'm just excited, it will def be an upgrade over my sealed Rockford P2 12". I wanna do a slot port (just personal preference), I should still follow the 4-8 in^2 right? I was thinking a port 14.5" tall x 2" wide x 23" long, its just a hair over @ 8.25 in^2 and a 28Hz tune. Does this sound about right to you? Yes, still go with the suggested range -- 28-29 in^2 is MORE than enough port for the E-15. Ight, thanks again man. A couple questions.... These are ones Jacob would probably know best... I know the recommended enclosure specs for a 15 are 3.5 cubes @ 35Hz. I want to do the 3.5 cubes, but whats the lowest tuning you recommend? I was thinking 28-30Hz because I really love the low low bass. Second question is, what do you recommend for port area per cube? I was thinking 12.5 in^2, do I need more? This is for a daily SQ setup. I will be powering one 15 with 500w. Any help will be very much appreciated!!

It really doesn't even do that... the real responses aren't like the graphs at all when we measured them. These days I don't use a box program for anything more than calculating port tuning as they are so often separated by a big margin from what really happens. not bashing or anything, but if you dont see the graph, how do you figure what tune you want? do you base it on the music you listen to, how low you wanna get, or spl?

A low tuned enclosure is often misunderstood. You do not need a low tuned enclosure to achieve a flat FR. A properly adjusted EQ can do that. Another note to consider, SA-15 for SQ? There are better options available, not saying a SA-15 is a fart cannon. I have used WinISD beta to do all the designing, and I would do say a 30hz tune, because the F3 is at ~25hz. but, it becomes a little peaky for my liking around 52hz. I don't want a curve to exceed +3db. So, the lower tuning helps it become more flat. Once you place your "finely tuned enclosure" into a vehicle FR anomalies will be nothing compared to what you planned. Tame those peaks an dips with an EQ. If the port was long enough, I am more than happy to go out and just buy some pvc and duct tape some port flares to the ends... Could you tell me how to find port area for a tube? I have just been doing W x H. Also, should I use more than one port? Vc = π×r²×h r^2 from outside of tube Do some research brah. This shit is all over the net. Tons of tips all over the net. Well, i gave that a try, and I still wound up with the same port length... 11.75".

Alright, so... I plan on buying a SA-15 D4. I currently have a 500W @ 2ohms Rockford Fosgate amp that is powering a 12. I do not plan on getting rid of it, considering I just got it. But i realized I want a 15 instead of a 12. The 12 I have is a Rockford Fosgate P2D412 (2011 model). So, the jump to Sundown its self is a great upgrade I'm assuming. I plan on building a box that's 3.5 cubes, tuned at 27Hz with a 4"x11" aero port. That gives me a port area of ~12sq. in./cu. foot. From what I hear that is sufficient for a SQ setup. But it seems a bit too short. Any opinions? I want a tune between 25Hz and 28Hz.... That brings me to another question, is that too low of a tune for a SA-15? Oh, and some notes to take into account... I really dont want to do a slot port. Second, this is a SQ build... I think that's it. I appreciate any help I can get! Thanks.
