  3. You're right about the remote wire. I hooked the rem wire up to a golden colored screw behind the digital display. Now it shows the voltage. Odd that this information was excluded from the installation instructions. Anyways, like I said, I am using it since it's been sitting around doing nothing. Seems to filter the sound a little better for the fronts as I didn't bother hooking it up to the sub amp. Thanks for the help.
  4. Has anyone ever built, seen, or heard a deathbox enclosure? I would like to build one myself but have only heard about deathbox and I never found the build plans. I would like to test the enclosure with a 10" mtx woofer and see what the enclosure is capable of. I stuffed the mtx in a sealed enclosure and it produces tight bass but nothing fantastic about it at 300watts. So if anyone knows where I can find the build info for the deathbox, I'd really appreciate it! Or let me know if you have ever heard one in person!
  5. This is what I have now: http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_components.php?comp_id=62 And this is what I want to uprade to: http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/shop/in...637432689f1ae00
  6. I'm thinking about upgrading my 5.25" JL VR coaxials to Rainbow CS230 Contour 2-way Component Speaker System 5.25 used for $160. Is this a decent deal?
  7. I will look for some type of a connection for the remote wire behind the digital readout display tomorrow. And if it does work,.. it'll most likely be used as a filter for my coaxials. And if it still doesn't work, I'll sell it as it is, which was brand new.
  8. That's called avoiding the question. Anyone else here that can help me? If I'm going to sell this cap, I need to make sure it works.
  9. I have an Xpress Capacitor(new) I'm trying to install and it's not quite working. I charged it correctly but when I measure it with a voltmeter, it only measures 3.5V I tried to install it anyways, hoping that it will charge the rest by itself. So I hooked it up right next to the amp. The digital readout doesn't display. I followed the instructions and it doesn't work. I asked a friend and he said I should try hooking up a remote wire to the cap. Any ideas?
  10. About time! More info and updates please =) I've heard so much about AA but never lucky enough to own one just yet.
  11. http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/forum/i...?showtopic=8377 http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/forum/i...?showtopic=8378 I'm sure you'll figure out what year my mustang is.
  12. Wow saving up for a new car. That means when you sell this car, you can add to the advertisement stating it comes included with a 18" subwoofer enclosure, lol. Props for the successful project. It must be really loud right there next to your ears.
  13. Here is a photography project I did titled "Speakers of Nature." The idea was that the speakers I use in my car have been applied to nature to contrast the uncanny replication of sound that speakers can make to that of something so natural sounding that you would never have known it to be replicated in the first place. Anyways, that was the idea and from there I used everyday tools that just about every car audio enthusiast has to create this project. I will post the pictures in order from cover to cover. Thanks for looking! Ps. Sorry for the quality of the images but I didn't want anyone copying my work. But feel free to use my ideas, just don't claim it as yours =)
  14. Hi everyone, The Prototype BTL 12" w/ pole chamfer dual 2 ohm was purchased back in Nov 06. Wow it's been that long already! The enclosure I'm working with is the recommended 2 cuft tuned to 33Hz for a solid daily driver. The amp is currently the Fosgate Punch 800.2 wired at 4 ohm bridged which I have been waiting a long time to upgrade but haven't had the necessary funds. Everything is going into a 2004 Mustang. I just upgraded the wiring yesterday to 1/0 Kicker power wire. It was a tough fit on the thin trimming by the door but with a few modifications, I made sure it would get installed. My Head unit is a Pioneer DEH P780MP. Fi has been great to work with and they have reconed my RE HC 12" Dual 2ohm sub back in December. I will provide pictures of a side by side comparison of the HC and BTL. The HC has the terminals upgraded to the easy to use push terminals which I would like to thank Scott again as they have saved me a lot of time when I like to swap out the subs. I have previously owned the kicker L7 12" and I will be comparing between the BTL, HC, and L7. The Kicker L7 was installed originally in an unknown spec ported box which blasted my rap music very loud and upgrading to the L7 was a big difference in output compared to the Infinity subwoofer I sold prior to getting the L7. But when I listened to other music besides rap, such as Asian pop music or classical, I began to notice the muddy sound quality. From there I switched to a sealed enclosure stuffed with polyfill and it sounded better but not up to expectations. Then I was browsing craigslist when I found a much talked about sub built by Scott in the old RE days. The mighty RE HC. I feel in love with it after hearing it for the first time in the seller's Jeep Wrangler. It was hooked up to a hifonics so little did he know that he wasn't giving the HC its due justice.(no offense to hifonics) But with a sound quality beast like the HC, I knew I could get better results(gets realllllly low). Unfortunately the HC had been through some abuse and it failed on me about a month later. So I had it reconed with Scott. At that time, Fi car Audio was just starting up and the news was all over various car audio forums. So after being 110% satisfied with the success of the HC, I decided I would love to try the top of the line Fi subs. The BTL was the most talked about at the time and I can probably say it still is. So I got a hold of the proto BTL and here were my first impressions: Firstly, you must realized I'm not doing the BTL justice as I am underpowering it with only about 1k watts. Ideally I'm run twice thatmuch but it's been financially difficult.Regardless, with what equipment I have, I fell yet in love with another woman, ... I mean subwoofer. The long search has finally ended. The BTL gets louder than the HC yet retains sound quality to my expectations. Beats were tight and hit the right notes at the right times. Not to mention, the sound gets deep, for a 12". A highly recommended sub for the price, you will definately want to consider the BTL 12". Thanks for reading my review and hope you enjoyed my journey in car audio. I may not be as experienced as many of you are but I love music and it's been really fun.
  15. Maybe the way I asked the question is the first place was a bit biased to begin with but regardless I think I got my answer. Thanks. Although I just thought about it, and if you audibly can't hear any difference, then as you guys mentioned, it's for show. But couldn't it also be used as a safety device to protect the amp? (since it's wired between the battery and amp)

  17. I have a 1.5 farad capacitor a friend gave me and I'd like to put it to some good use. I have a small mtx amp powering a pair of JL coaxial 5.25" speakers and a punch800.2 bridged for my RE HC 12". I understand some people are against using caps but I have one so I might as well use it. And generally they are used for the amp powering the sub however, in my case I highly doubt it would do anything noticable. So here's my question: What would happen if I hooked up the cap to the MTX amp that is powering the front speakers? Would that give the MTX amp a little extra boost? I believe it's a mtx roadthunder and it's pushing maybe 50rms total.
  18. I'm convinced, I'll give it a try soon. I went out and got the cheapest cigar trimmer which cost about $6 bucks. It worked well but I had to trim off some of the wire in order to get the wire to fit. But regardless, it's 90% complete. Here are the pics and special thanks to M5 for the tip which I could have only found here at the SSA forums. (much better advice than ppl at best buy) And funny thing was that the people at the cigar store asked if I'd like some cigars to go with the trimmer. I had much better intentions for the cutter. Although, the salesman tried to sell me a $15 or $35 trimmer with dual blades. I love my wires but not that much lol. By the way, I used a combination of dremel and cigar trimmer.
  19. I'm convinced, I'll give it a try soon.
  20. Is there a special tool I should be aware of that I'm not using? I've been using a swiss army knife, wire cutters, and pliers. It was definitely no easy task getting the wire cut, that's for sure. Hopefully I'll have some luck doing that today. Actually I have a dremel that I can use. Perhaps I'll give that a try. Any other ideas? (since I don't smoke?)

  22. Sorry for the quality of the pictures as they came from my W810i camera phone
  23. I just bought some Kicker 1/0 gauge power wire kit and I'm having a difficult time figuring out how exactly I'm supposed to get the thick 1/0 wire into the ANL Fuse holder(which came included with the Kicker amp kit by the way). Here are some pictures to show you exactly what I'm talking about. Thanks in advance. I'll check back real soon as I would like to continue the install tomorrow if time permits. Ps. How do I post up an image. It will only let me link an url.
  24. So you're basically suggesting that I upgrade from coaxial to separates, right?
  25. That's the answer I was looking for. Thanks for saving me time and $$.
