  1. So my grandfather comes down for a visit in his new car, one of those two seater fast driving Caddy's, nice car. He sits and listens to my system, seems to love it. Out of no where this 72 yr old throws me in his car and cranks up his radio. He has an SQ setup using 3 10" eclipse subs (not sure what type, but nice), and two sets of Rainbow Germaniums. That stuff sounded nice. For the first time I was listening to something that didn't just throw out so much bass that is almost all you could hear. To make things better, my old lady is makin me sell one of my trucks to get a car in the next couple months, meaning a new setup. I will probably be on here asking all sorts of questions about comp sets and equalizers and such, so just wanted to say thanks in advance cause I have no clue what I am doing this time, lol.
  2. Thanks for all your input guys. I learned a lot about them from your posts beleive it or not. I am to much of a SPL lover for one apparently and would probably be disappointed if i were to try it. Thanks.....I will stay with ported.
  3. I was lookin at maybe a couple 15" Q's.
  4. Cool cool. you gotta post pics when you do this
  5. Ok, now I figured this is an infinite baffle. Just found out by googling it. Now comes the real question, What positives and negatives come from an inifinite baffle? Do they sound good at all and can they produce some nice SPL or would I be better off just makin a ported enclosure.
  6. Guess he has never seen the vid of a fully loaded BTL takin around 10k watts and not crapping out or the paper cone ripping and other videos of subs like RF's T2 and other "expensive" subs' thick rubber cones just ripping with to much power.
  7. LOL, didn't even know what to vote on this one. To bad the only two votes are on totally different spectrums.
  8. That is actually kinda what I was lookin for. I love my SPL, but wasn't to sure how 2 12's ported would compare to 4 10's sealed.. I would probably have better chances if i ever did compete with the 2 12's ported apparently. Thanks, guess that answers that question. Now comes the fun project of designing a box that looks very appealing to the eye.
  9. So I have been checkin out his posts and now I am curious. What would be "louder" in an overall sense....4 10" Q's sealed or 2 12" Q's ported. I have no exp what so ever with sealed enclosures and would like to know the answer to this. I know the 10's win with overall surface area, but will the ported cause much more SPL than the 4 10's? Any advice on this would be great cause I have been thinkin about it for quite some time now and it is driving me nuts. Side Note: Probably use a RF4000.1 to 4 10's or Kicker2500.1 or such for 2 12's. THANKS
  10. truckaudioman posted a topic in General Fi
So, all i have exp with are the typical square ports that are commonly seen. I have no idea about these nice little round ports that occasionally pop out at me. Can yall give me some info on these. I kinda like the way they look and am now kinda thinkin of givin them a try on my girls little car. any info would be great. as i said, i have no clue as to anything about them at all.
  11. Welcome back man!!!
  12. That would be pretty cool. I would like to see how it comes out either way. Hope you get your job so you can go all out, lol.
  13. So i have been reading on and on about different organizations and competitions and am tired, so I thought I would just ask and see if someone knows. Is there a category that I will be competing in with the following setup. This is in a cut through of a truck with a camper shell. 4 18" BTLs in a wall 2 amps, 1 for each set of BTLs other amps for mids and highs As I said, I am tired of reading. The few times I thought i figured out that i could compete in a certain event there was a little note saying a truck with a cuthrough was not allowed. are there any where a truck cut through is allowed?? THANKS
  14. So I have been sittin here planning out my next system almost to a T, when the thought pops in my head, maybe I should find out the competition rules and types of competitions there are before I do any major planning. Does anyone have any ideas or sites I can hit up to find out the various competitions and rules regarding these comps? My last plan was a F150 with shell on the bed. I was gonna do a wall with 4 18" BTLs, allowing the box to take up some room in the bed. I was probably gonna port front as well, but have some templates and planning to do first. Is there even a competition for such vehicle or do i need to go back to the drawing board. 4 18" BTL's not sure of amps, but probably 3k watts to each sub, 2 amps additional couple amps for comp sets up front and in suicide doors at least 1 300 amp alt big 3 couple extra batteries
  15. so what is lookin like to me is that start off with 1 300 amp alt, get all my stuff up and going, test everything. if it still pulls to much, then get another....
  16. Yeah, i need to start learning before i get my truck, i wanna build that enclosure myself. but i know i will need help from someone for that one cause it will probably have to built inside the truck. i want a wall to house, probably 4 18" btl's. I am lookng at either building one huge wall porting all 4 together. My other option was building two setups and stackin them. Use some nice bolt clamps and clamp the two boxes together. got a lot to plan out though. still have to get the truck, lol. that is next year, gotta pay for my wedding first. shawn also invited me down to his area to help me out as well, so if time permits i will be going down there to learn as much as possible.
  17. Yeah, that is my current problem. I keep reading books and feel like i have learned very little. i need to try and find a hands on approach. maybe undo my system and try to re-install it. Take little steps here and there until I learn more I guess.
  18. so i noticed a lot of you on here are very well educated when it comes to systems in cars (ie doing it yourself). where/how did ya'll learn all this stuff? was it just trial and error pretty much? reason i ask cause i really would like to learn and dont have enough time to go to a school for it. read two "eh" books but want tons more info and want to learn more.
  19. Quick question. I will be running 4 18" BTL's. Upgrade wise, big 3, 300 amp alt, and about 4 kinetik 2400's.....i will be pushing about 12k watts to the subs as it is, roughly 3k each sub, well that is what i plan to push to each at least. I am about 90% positive i will need two alternators, what do you think?
  20. -sadly, when all your college math seminar research papers revolve around car audio, port design, frequency with tuning, etc.
  21. Here is my 2 cents. Scott has more interest in the sport/hobby of the entire audio scene. When these new partners came in, they wanted to make big $$$$$$. Scott produces a very reputable product at an amazing price that easily compares if not beats RE. By doing this people who don't have a butt load of cash can get more into this......why......cause he has an extreme passion for this. that is why i say, thank you Scott. In my opinion, you are a pioneer in this industry and allow people to get great products for a great price, so again, THANK YOU!!!!!!1
  22. It will help, until the first bass note finishes. Cap's are more of a buffer than anything. If you have one large burst of bass pulling so much out of your electrical system, that is when a cap comes into play. A decent burst of bass will completely drain the capacitor. That said, capacitors take a little while to charge....so if you are playing loud bass none stop, the cap will then become useless cause it cant pull power fast enough. By doing this, it is causing an even larger strain on your system by pulling needed power to it. So, IMHO, you may end up doing more harm than good by getting a cap. Just my 2 cents though....
  23. I agree with what static did and think you should do the same, contact the better business bureau. They don't screw around with people. I contacted them one time about a restraunt and they were there 4 days later. Enough strikes and they get in serious trouble, maybe that is what they need. That aside, second skin is some pretty good stuff, I really loved mine when I used it in my little Ranger. You will be happy with it. Dynamat is to expensive and not as good IMO. Tried it, was unhappy. I think second skin compares if not exceeds that expensive Dynamat extreme stuff.
  24. LOL, you are seriously doing this. I thought you were gonna do the rubiks cube thing or something. I guess you really are planning on setting out to learn all about this stuff and do it yourself.
