  1. So let me ask, since I've never been to one of these events... Do you park inside the event and everyone walks around each car, or do you park in a separate lot and basically only the cars entered for competitions are there? Reason being, I would like to enter...not because I think I could win anything, but more so to get help/pointers on improving my system. Particularly EQ'ing. Can you display your car without being in competitions? Plus it would be a little fun to be apart of the show. And definitely would love to see & hear some awesome systems. I'm still talking wifey into going, but fairly certain Im going. God I wish my Xcon and enclosure would get here already! (But probably won't make in time)
  2. If you have any young kids that might use the ipad, I would recommend jailbreak and download a desktop lock. Never understood why Apple doesnt include this feature? Nothing more annoying than your apps moved from desired location on the desktop or apps getting deleted.
  3. http://www.metraonline.com/ Metra is the best place online to find the aftermarket wiring harness...but I seem to be having a problem accessing their website at the moment so cannot be of any help. I myself just had the Pioneer AVIC X850bt installed in my Hyundai Santa Fe over the weekend, but had it professionally installed so again might not be much help.
  4. While I have heard of people watching standard ATSC while moving (granted not a stable signal) I think a lot would depend on station location, line of site, antenna location in the vehicle etc. but couldn't hurt to try. But yeah, Parkin lot pimpin for sure!
  5. Not sure your amp is doing 1400 RMS, unless its severely underated. The specs say 1000 RMS @ 1 ohm. But good to know your Xcon plays well even with this...still waiting on mine to arrive so good to know it plays well at lower RMS, which will be my situation also!
  6. Yeah watching while vehicle is in motion might be a problem. You would need an ATSC-M/H tuner, which was designed for mobile viewing...stations broadcasting in M/H are few and far between. http://www.mdtvsignalmap.com/
  7. Ive been wanting to go to one of these events as well, probably a good 6 hours from me in central VA, but closest event ive seen so far...definitely considering it if I dont have to work. Actually just mapquested, its 4.5 hours away, and my wife has family in DC anyways...Im trying to be there! Now I just need my Xcon and enclosure to make it to me before then!!!
  8. Enough said. Sorry to hear about family troubles...family always comes first. Still waiting on the Xcon delivery so not big deal. Thanks for the reply! Much appreciated.
  9. Yeah the Xcon fits all your requirements.
  10. Hey Dustin, was hoping to hear an update on my enclosure build. Figure since its been 14 business days I would have heard something by now (perhaps a design sketch up etc), left an email a couple days ago but no response. Understandable you guys are probably swamped, hoping to get a little update. Thanks Eric Gonzalez
  11. Thanks Aaron, Exactly why I made the switch to SSA and bought the Xcon!
  12. more like, where did he secure the truck to the wall?? amazing. I need to get my ass to one of these car shows, never sat in anything that looks that loud.
  13. Is it possible to make wedge shape enclosure with ports?
  14. Not sure what kind of criteria I should have been looking for in a shop, but the only two or three shops near me were not very impressive when I visited them. So I looked further outside of my city (Lynchburg, VA) and found Audiotronics in Roanoke,VA. Pretty much best option other than Crutchfield in Charlottesville. Both were equal distance from me (60 miles) and both are authorized installers for the AudioControl LCQ1...and after looking into Audiotronics I felt they are very reputable...so again not sure what criteria makes a shop good? Wish I was handy enough to do myself, unfortunately I have to rely on those who know more about this stuff than myself. It is what it is, Im not too upset. They even stayed hours over on a Saturday trying to get it all finished. Now if they would have tore a hole n my leather seats or scratched my new wheels...then I'd blow a gasket. Also have to give part of the blame to these auto manufacturers for using these gimmick audio set ups that make difficult for aftermarket solutions. On a side note relating to my future Xcon setup, so going ported lets say I want the enclosure to reach 45" wide to fill the trunk symmetrically. Can I keep the sub on center with the port on either side? Or does it need to be on one end and the port on the other end, not centered?
  15. Well minor setback, the shop had a problem tapping from the head unit. So they will have to reinstall the factory infinity amp and tap from that. I went with components front and rear. I just decided its what I wanted, as I felt I was missing the rear fill which was bothering me. I'm not so much worried about a front stage simulating a concert in the front. So anyways I have to go back Tuesday to finish. And tonight I also purchased the 15" Xcon! Guess I will be waiting the build time.
  16. If your audio is in mp3 format you can use MP3gain to fix clipping. http://mp3gain.sourceforge.net/ Not sure of anything similar for other formats though.
  17. I already bought everything, shop is only installing. Pretty much too late to change much, pretty tapped out to buy anything additional at this point. I made my bed...now I will just lay in it for now.
  18. Well thanks guys for all your suggestions, will probably keep me tossing and turning all night long. I will probably check this thread once more in the AM before I go, and will let you know what ends up happening. So, I should forget the rear altogether and focus up front. What about the RTA tuning? Pass? I'm no good adjusting EQ myself, would this not help? And, as for now the ported Xcon 15" is the front runner. Thanks guys, have a good night.
  19. Dammit you guys, I wish I would have came here asking questions first instead of thinking I knew what I was doing in the first place... Perhaps I'll just get the fronts installed and see how I like it. So you guys think I should leave rear doors disconnected altogether? Gosh that blows my mind, but again Im a noob and just never heard the correct way of doing this.
  20. Right now it's almost as if the rears are non-existent but I attribute this more to the Hyundai/Infinity system. And it bugs me to no end.
  21. So you mean have no rear door speakers at all? Or maybe just put the 6.5 woofer and forget the tweet in the rear?
  22. Unfortunately I already have everything purchased. I understand your position about rear staging, but I am also using rear DVD headrest and is more so for that, plus I'm not a pure soundstage has to be directly up front as if I were at a live concert. I kinda like the presense of sound from all around. Also, with this JL amp if I were to bridge it can only be 4 ohm, and the comps are 2 ohm so that wouldn't work I don't think.
  23. well the RTA and 6 channel amp was my idea...my car has 10 speaker setup, and figured if I ever wanted to use any of those locations I would have the extra channels to accommodate, or possibly maintain the stock 8" sub for possibly some mid bass duty. But honestly, Im a noob so most of this was impulse and lack of knowledge. So you think I should bypass the RTA? I just wanted to get it tuned as best as possible. As it stands my Infinity system has flaws and the rear doors are non existent. As for comps in the rear, it's mainly for the headrest DVD players, so the rear passengers can hear it better.
  24. Thanks for clearing up some of my misconceptions. I have just heard people say 15's have a harder time keeping up with faster music...or something to that effect. (I like hip hop, classic rock, 80's/90's and getting into this dubstep (?) ...so a single 15 Gcon might satisfy my thirst? That would be the cheapest route. Thanks M5, definitely food for thought.
  25. Thanks ou812, In the past I had two JL 12W3's, and felt they hit pretty good...running dedicated 300rms amps to each sub. Right now I have two 12" shallow mount Pioneer subs at 750rms. They sounded awesome when I first got them, but almost feel as if I may have burned a coil somewhere. Anyhow, I am actually going tomorrow to a shop and getting RE XXX 6.5 comps installed front and rear connected to a JL 600/6. (100 rms @ 2 ohm) Since I am using a stock Navigation head unit Im also having them connect an LCQ1 processor. While Im there I'm gonna have them tune everything with RTA and gonna get them to look at my subs and/or amp to see if there is anything wrong.
