  1. Single 12" or 15"? Xcon does look tempting.
  2. Well, my box dimensions could go as big as: 45" W x 18" H x 14" D Maybe even higher or deeper, but would like some trunk space. Not sure what that comes out to in ft^3 I have never gone with a ported enclosure and only fear playing below tuning. I know the amp has sub sonic protection, but still worries me...am I over analyzing that?
  3. Thanks Axe, although two Icons would be awesome it would be out of my price range. I was definitely considering two GCons, which would be just a tad more than a single Xcon...and a single Icon would save me even more. But I am just looking for my best option as this will most likely be my only upgrade for a long time.
  4. Oh, also recommend minimum amp RMS I should be looking for with either setup. Thanks
  5. I'm pretty much set with going the SSA route, just need some help with my options. First, I am looking more for SQ rather than SPL, but also want to be able to make hairs stand on my neck and get loooow when needed. So Im thinking a sealed enclosure...also to save space. Currently my amp runs 750rms @2 ohm (1000 @ 1 ohm stable), so most likely would upgrade amp if need. With regards to damping factor on amps, would 2 ohm be sufficient vs 1 ohm on most amps or is this not such an important aspect? I'm considering two Gcon 12's or a single Icon/Xcon...price being important as I would like to stay under $500. If I go single sub would 15" be as efficient as two 12"? And would Icon or Xcon 15" be too boomy for sq music? As far as enclosure space, I would be ok with the recommended "sealed optimal" size as stated in the specifications. I want to do it right, and only do it once. Sorry if I am missing some needed details for your help, let me know what you guys think. I just need some SSA action. Thanks guys
  6. I have two 12" Pioneer TS-SW3001 shallow mount subs...and they hit pretty darn hard! I went with the pioneer for the spec plays down to 20HZ and bought from amazon for ~ $110 each. Don't think just because its a shallow mount that it doesnt hold its weight!
  7. Well I never did figure out the multimeter thing...so many options and not sure where to use and how to be safe...instructions were vague and Internet video tutorials were for the most part limited. So, I just fiddled around with the LOC and amp gains and I think I reigned it in a whole lot. Now I can play the low freq ranges without distortion and almost to ear pounding levels...think I can increase gain, but I am content for now. Thanks for the help and suggestions, I am definitely keeping possible GCons' on my wish list for the future.
  8. Im using stock Navigation unit that only has high level outputs, so Im also using a LOC...perhaps another kink in the chain? So I bought the multimeter, anyone suggest where I should be checking and even a "how to" as I've never done it before. I have an inch or two of snow coming down now so won't be able to check today, probably tomorrow. Thanks for the help guys, hope its an easy cheap fix.
  9. Doh! ...order cancelled. Will hit autozone tomorrow. Why didn't I think of that. LoL
  10. Thanks guys, just bought a multimeter from amazon. http://www.amazon.com/Equus-3320-Auto-Ranging-Digital-Multimeter/dp/B000EVYGZA/ref=pd_rhf_ee_p_t_2_P2FC
  11. I will have to take it by a local installer to check as I have no instruments to check anything. I was looking at the enclosures sold on this site...but the dual ported 12" is a bit larger than I would like...and expensive. http://store.soundsolutionsaudio.com/categories/enclosures.html
  12. Ok first off no flaming me please. My current setup is two 12" shallow mount Pioneer subs (sealed down firing) and a Hifonics Gladiator amp...wired 750rms @ 2 ohm. My problem is lately I've noticed a smell which I can only assume is voice coil, and I've been feeling like my output is not what it use to be. When I first had this installed it was hitting very hard and clean. My rear view mirror looked like it would fall off, and my ears would ring it was so low. Very clean, no bottoming or rattle and I loved it. But the guy who installed it set the gain by ear and I always thought he just turned knobs to appease me for whatever reason instead of setting where it should be set properly. Long story short, I get this odd burn smell (never smelled this before so only assume voice coil) and it seems like my low clean bass is muddied and missing at certain frequencies. Even a rattle, but pressing on the cone itself does not reveal any indication of probelms, and my amp seems ok? So I just don't know if its my subs or amp, or even flaw in the enclosure and am contemplating a change. Any thoughts as to what my problem could be, or how to check? I really like my shallow down firing setup as it saves space and looks nice (to me). But I want that deep hard hitting bass back! I am thinking two 12" GCons - probably sealed - rear firing, and am willing to sacrifice space but not my entire space. I would consider side to side would be about 45 inches, height and depth 14". Does this sound feesible for two 12" GCons? I notice the prefab enclosures sold here, but did not see a dual 12" sealed system, when ordering do they make it to custom size or just stock dimensions? Thanks for any help.
  13. Sorry I do not have any videos, and since my subwoofers are installed as down firing, it would be very hard to get a decent video of them in action. As for handling the lows? I think they handle the lows like most any other sub...my previous subs were JL W3's and some older Cerwin Vegas...so compared to most peopkle on this website, my experience is limited...but I love these shallow mounts. No regrets. I have been listening to Bass Mekanik and my subs handle it very well! ...almost too well. Ive been digging this CD lately, Mad Mike presents Pimpin Ass Bass. (I'll see if I can get a video when its not raining)
  14. They look nice! and Sonic Electronix has a great price too! (Polks website says $280 each, which is insane.) I was looking at the JL shallow mount, but that is around $400+ for one...which is also insane so I went with the Pioneer shallow mounts. But yeah, the Polk's look nice. Just read as many user reviews as you can.
  15. I found this site when I was browsing google pictures looking for anyone with a Hyundai Santa Fe trying to get an idea the kind of setup they were using and came across Mark Lafountain's hyundai build. While my setup is not even close in comparison, I found this site to be full of very knowledgable members in regards to car audio setup. Much great info here! I could tell you most anything about home theater, but when it comes to the car Im a noob. Some of this stuff goes above my head, but as with anything else its always fun to learn. As of now I do not own anything SSA, but sure looks tempting! Thanks guys.
  16. you can port these subs, which does require a larger box but does give more output...even in a trunk im sure they'd sound fine.
  17. Im running two 12" Pioneer TS-SW3001s4, and let me tell you they hit very nice. Didn't think a shallow mount would sound so good. Look at all the space! http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/forum/gallery/album/629-2012-hyundai-santa-fe-ltd/
  18. Just had my Hifonics Gladiator GLX1000.1D amp installed with my two 12" Pioneer TS-SW3001 shallow mount subs installed. Only had it going for about an hour, but wow...I was hesitant about shallow mounted subs, but they kick ass. here are some pics of my system... http://s176.photobucket.com/albums/w184/crackinhedz/Car%20DVD%20Headrest/
  19. Hifonics has the new Gladiator lineup selling Hifonics GLX2200.1D Gladiator
