Welcome to the IHoP
If I'm wiring an ICON to 1ohm, I'd use this diagram right? Would I just use a single strand of speaker wire to the box, go to both +,- and then split the speaker wire in half and take a black and blue strand to connect the 2 postives and 2 negatives on the speaker? I'm sure that's confusing, so is it ok to stuff 2 speaker wires into one terminal to make it a series connection? or would I run 2 lengths of wire from the amp to the box and attach a + - to each voice coil? That would use all 4 wire connections on the amp, is that okay and would that make a 1ohm load? -John

How do you attach the terminals to 1/0 power wire? I tried clamping it but it doesn't pass the pull test. My old wiring kit had some sort of glue in there and it was clamped down on the wire, so what do I do? -John

UPDATE: I ran the main power wire for the amplifier and the glue is nice and dry for the amplifier mounts: Tomorrow I should be able to finish the project, but right now my fingers hurt from running this wire. The 1/0 gauge is definitely a lot harder to maneuver than the JL 8 gauge that you could tie in a knot like as if it were a shoelace, but I managed to find a nice route into the engine bay. I'll update tomorrow when I do some more work -John

ok, so the LPF is just a switch to tell the amplifier when to activate the bass to the subwoofer as opposed to the front speakers? Is that what a crossover is? What will I be listening for with the 'phase' switch? Will it be a noticable difference, and is one better or worse for the sub? thanks again for all the help -John

A woman wrote a lot of Letters to the White House complaining about the treatment of a captive insurgent (terrorist) being held in Guantanamo Bay. She received back the following reply: The White House 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue Washington, D.C. 20016 Dear Concerned Citizen, Thank you for your recent letter roundly criticizing our treatment of the Taliban and Al Qaeda detainees currently being held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Our administration takes these matters seriously and your opinion was heard loud and clear here in Washington . You'll be pleased to learn that, thanks to the concerns of citizens like yourself, we are creating a new division of the Terrorist Retraining Program, to be called the "Liberals Accept Responsibility for Killers" program, or LARK for short. In accordance with the guidelines of this new program, we have decided to place one terrorist under your personal care. Your personal detainee has been selected and scheduled for transportation under heavily armed guard to your residence next Monday. Ali Mohammed Ahmed bin Mahmud (you can just call him Ahmed) is to be cared for pursuant to the standards you personally demanded in your letter of complaint. It will likely be necessary for you to hire some assistant caretakers. We will conduct weekly inspections to ensure that your standards of care for Ahmed are commensurate with those you so strongly recommended in your letter. Although Ahmed is a sociopath and extremely violent, we hope that your sensitivity to what you described as "his attitudinal problem" will help him overcome these character flaws. Perhaps you are correct in describing these problems as mere cultural differences. We understand that you plan to offer counselling and home schooling. Your adopted terrorist is extremely proficient in hand-to-hand combat and can extinguish human life with such simple items as a pencil or nail clippers. We advise that you do not ask him to demonstrate these skills at your next yoga group. He is also expert at making a wide variety of explosive devices from common household products, so you may wish to keep those items locked up, unless (in your opinion), this might offend him. Ahmed will not wish to interact with you or your daughters (except sexually), since he views all females as a subhuman form of property. This is a particularly sensitive subject for him and he has been known to show violent tendencies around women who fail to comply with the new dress code that he will recommend as more appropriate attire. I'm sure you will come to enjoy the anonymity offered by the burka -- over time. Just remember that it is all part of "respecting his culture and his religious beliefs". Wasn't that how you put it? Thanks again for your letter. We truly appreciate it when folks like you keep us informed of the proper way to do our job. You take good care of Ahmed - and remember, we'll be watching. Good luck! Cordially, your friend, GEORGE W. BUSH

haha who cares, it won't be seen anyways I need to figure out how to set the amp once I get it installed... too many knobs that I have no clue what they mean. When I did my last install, I just did what JL Audio recommended for all the knobs and set my gain accordingly thanks for the compliments -John

I'll be updating this thread as I finish. I hope to be done by this weekend if not before then Out with the old: JL 10w3v2 in a sealed ProBox powered by a JL 250/1 In with the new: 12" ICON D2 in a ported box built by mrray13 and powered by a Sundown Audio SAE-1000D Here's some pics of my truck: I'll keep updating as I work. Right now the gorilla glue is drying on the MDF that I'll mount the amps with on the back wall -John

No. so "no" it's not okay to leave them disconnected, or "no" there's not a powerful signal running through them? just wanna make sure if it's not okay, can I just leave the radio power off and drive in silence? Will that solve the problem? thanks for the reply -John

Welcome to the IHoP
Quick question, is it ok to leave RCA's unplugged from the amp but still plugged into the radio? I don't want to start my truck on fire if there's a powerful signal running out the end of them. It'll be disconnected for 2-3days -John

- Welcome to the IHoP
ok that's how I did it the first time, but I read sometimes RCA's can carry a charge or something and they can screw the amp up when you plug them in first without power or ground. thanks for the reply -John- Welcome to the IHoP
Hey I got some last minute things I wanna go over before I start the install tomorrow (2003 Silverado) 1. What distance does the fuse need to be from the battery? 6" right? Also the shorter the ground the better right? 2. I'm gonna do the Big 3 while I'm at it, so should I fuse those connections? I really don't want to have to buy 3 fuse holders and fuses for 1/0 wire, so if it's not a necessity let me know but if it'll be a hazard I'll do it. 3. There's an order to hookup the amp right? Like ground then power then remote then RCA's ? If you guys don't mind, give me some tips or safety advice... my last install was fine, but I don't wanna mess this investment up so I'm being extra careful -John- Welcome to the IHoP
I figured I'd ask my question in here rather than making a whole thread about it... I just bought the ICON 12" D2 and Sundown Audio SAE-1000D amplifier and I was wondering what settings I should adjust and where to put them. The only tool I own is a DMM so an o-scope won't be possible unless I can rent one in Austin or something. If someone respectable has this same set-up, could they let me know what settings they used for all the knobs and what voltage they're reading from the terminals so I know if the sqrt trick is accurate or not I was also reading that the DMM technique is bad because it all depends on the output from your HU... I have a stock BOSE headunit, so if that's really a factor is there a way I can measure the output and factor that into setting the gain with a DMM? -John- From: Sundown Amplifier FAQ
ok, thanks alot for the quick reply good customer service -John- From: Sundown Amplifier FAQ
I got a question, isn't the 1000D supposed to take 1/0ga wire? It looks like my connections are only 4ga, so would it be safe to trim some wire to make the 1/0 fit? -John- Welcome to the IHoP
so you wouldn't just poke through it, you would pull off the surround and pull back or cut away the material that's covering the hole? -John- Welcome to the IHoP
yeah I tired turning it... When you look under the sub, the hole in the surround matches the basket hole, but when you go to the top there's no hole. I guess I'll try poking through it and see if it gives. I just didn't wanna screw the driver up... thanks for the replies -John- SSA ICON and Sundown 1000D special
I got my ICON today, and the amp came in a few days ago. Great price and awesome products... Once all this damn rain in central texas stops I'll install it, or just work in the garage -John- Welcome to the IHoP
I also had a few questions about the driver because the mounting holes are not drilled completely through, so do I just drill a small pilot hole and then drill the screws in? Regular wood screws from Home Depot are fine right? Any special kind I should use? -John- Welcome to the IHoP
yeah it was waiting for me when I got home from the coast -John - Welcome to the IHoP
