  1. i'd been told that you aren't suppose to turn on a class d amp with no load present, on high output class d amps. They will see 0 ohms and can damage them. This wasn't told to me from or reference to Sundown but just class d amps in general.
  2. Not only does it sound like the Alt, but an alt just don't die because it wants to, find out why it died! Was it trying to charge dead or near dead batts previously? Did you give someone a jump the other day with your vehicle on?!?!?!
  3. i am really interested in this thread because i have 2 12s in a tC and i also peak at 34hz... I have 2 2200w amps but they are in for repair right now. I have yet to meter them via termlab but when they get back, i'd like to see how a pair with your score.
  4. From what i understand, this is prolonged use of overcharging. up to an hour i'm sure won't cause anything significant to happen but if you went on a road trip.... i dont think that's a good idea.
  5. i have 2 12s, not sundowns, in their lowest recommended enclosure size tuned to 34hz and it just dominates the low end. I was shocked at how much low end was there. They see a total of 4.0 cubes NET when they should see 5.0 So you might be surprised if set on 15s. However, larger airspace more equal higher efficiency so the 12s may out do the 15s.
  6. power rating at ANY given resistance if both amps are of same efficiency will pull the SAME current. The ohm load has NOTHING to do with how much it will pull from your electrical system. The lower ohm load you go, typically the less efficient but that depends on the efficiency of the amps as well. Usually, efficiency ratings.. if even given are only at 4 ohms. The lower your load, the lower the efficiency, but in your case, for different amps, you need the efficiency ratings at these specific ohm loads to answer the question precisely.
  7. Well, if you do this, i'd highly advise you have the amps setup properly! Tuned by ear will kill your sub. You will need it tuned via o-scope. Now, even then, you have 2 things to watch for- 1 - smell. Since this is a used sub, even AFTER the amps are setup, watch for a smell, a burn smell. If you ever smell this, turn down immediately as this will let you know that your amp combo is too much at that volume level. 2 - mechanical movement. If the sub tends to be moving more, well, that's a given... But, if it tends to be moving way too much than what it's rated for, that's a major problem as well. The best way to test this out is by playing test tones starting the volume off at half and working your way up to the maximum unclipped level it was setup at with the o-scope. IF you can't never get the stereo up to that level without the sub moving too much, then either it's too much power or your box is too large for the power at hand, or your crossover(s) need to be adjusted for a more narrow range.

yea, i was afraid to say Get Smart was "ok" but i guess you're right. I seen that the night it came out and while it is funny, "Some" of the humorous parts are old skool funny and not funny anymore... For instance- him shooting himself in the airplane bathroom over and over and over.... that type of funny has been done so many times, the first time he did it, yea, little funny but after that.... overkill. Some parts of the story were a little off... like at the end when he all of a sudden knew that guys "story", you know that humungous guy tryin to kill em then he became soft and let them go.... yea right. IT wasn't one of Steve Carell's best movies but i think it's still worth one watch, just not an over and over and over again type of movie to see.

Hancock was just released at 7pm tonight 7/1/08 so i and phi went to go see it and it was actually better than i thought. After about 30-40min, the story seemed like it was gonna be one of those typical newer movies to where the story would just drag down to the ground and stay there til it ended with an even worse feeling, but no, Hancock actually surprised me! After i felt that feeling, bout 10-20 min later, the story started to pick back up and stayed that way and may have even gotten better towards the end as well. It had a great ending, especially bout 1 min after the credits started rolling, haha. I DEFINITELY SUGGEST going to see this movie!

  11. How accurate is WinISD though? I just got it to tell me this design i made up would push 911mph out of a single port that would need to be 1.25" if using 3\4" mdf. That's over MACH 1. you guys say it is impossible so i am asking if it is then why is this software saying it isnt impossible? Box specs- 5 cuft box using 1 single 3" diameter port off of 5,000w of power tuned to 30hz.
  12. for a cheaper alternative, if they are dvc2s, get an opti2000d can be had brand new for under $400. Tested at ~1,940w @0.5 ohm stable daily.
  13. Well, without wasting your time, pop the dvd into the player and go to scene selection and find out if the company has created chapters that divide each song up... by chapter. If it does, then i can help you perfect the rip method.
  14. I have that software too. Since you basically have an audio file with multiple songs in it, you must select the area that the song uses, cut and paste into a new document, then save. Or, you could select everything else in that song file, delete it, save that file then undo changes to bring back the rest of the songs. It would have been "Perfect" if you ripped the dvd by chapter so the songs were already chopped for you.
  15. Well, i know the amps arent touching metal because they are mounted together on the box. The entire car is still gutted and i dont see any tears anywhere. The verdict of why the problem happened again will come later next week.
  16. Natas - B*tches I Like to F*ck - drops all the way down to 4hz so if that song doesn't get you goin then nothing will.
  17. Well, let me tell you what i know and go from there. Other than what i'm bout to say, gotta have it tested- Autozone told me that you give them the CA rating on the battery. They hook the batt up to the tester and send that load to the batt for 3-5 seconds. This example was tested on a batt whose float is 12.6v, stock lead acid battery. The batt dropped to 10.3-10.5v but then started rising into the 12s. He stated if the batt doesn't reach 12.4v or higher then it's damaged. The battery reached 12.2v and the test failed the batt. We tested the batt because it wouldnt crank the engine but ALSO, it wouldnt even run his dome light or his door buzzer!, now explain that one with a rest reading of 12.6 before load! It baffled me but that's what happened. Of course he bought a new battery and viola, everything worked fine.
  18. u gotta put a load like a cranking load. make it ur starting battery and to get it to start your ride for about 3-5 seconds then stop if it doesnt start. Recheck voltage at this time. then check it again about a minute later.

    yep, dual 1s can be, or i've seen be- 0.6, 0.7, 0.8, 0.9

Find me a sub that is rated exactly like it says. You won't get a 2.0 reading off of a dual 2 ohm sub. I've posted this a LOT. Dual 2 ohm, i've seen 1.2, 1.4, 1.5, 1.6, 1.8, 1.9 There is impedance rise which always plays a factor so it won't burn up an amp but you can't take rise for granted so much as to expect to wire it at unsafe loads and be 100% fine.
  21. then whats the point? That'd be the same thing as saying, i have 2 runs of 6 awg wire running into my amp. One of them is fused, the other isn't. Something happened and popped the fuse but the wire caught on fire! Why? because the other one wasnt fused. IF you have multiple runs of wire going from point A to point B, if one is fused, they ALL need to be fused or it's a waste.
  22. if you put a fuse in between the alt and the batt, if the fuse pops, the alt will no longer be able to charge.... anything. Even if your alt is a 100A alt and you put a 100A fuse in there, the alt may attempt to output more than that power depending on scenario and could pop it due to just excessive current output. If you are really paranoid about the whole issue, fuse it with something 1.5 to 2x the alt rating. That way if for some very odd reason the alt got grounded out as stated before, it will still blow the fuse.
  23. well, what is subsonic set at? Also, download Audacity, highlight a small range of a song and choose Analyze then Plot Spectrum. Where it says 512, choose 16384 Change linear to log frequency. Now move your cursor slowly from left to right watching the db level at the frequency. Find out what frequencies in whatever song u choose peaks at the most and that's the frequency you need to get louder if you want that song louder. Or it could be that the song doesnt have a high recording level or it's normalized like rap\bass tracks are. The db level will show you all that though. I've got rap songs that go as high as +23Db! that's as high as i've seen it go for me so far.
  24. charge it, crank it just one time and if it wont start, stop! Check the voltage. IF it's below 10.0, it's shot to hell and back. If it's at that or higher, wait about 1 minute and recheck. If the voltage hasn't risen above 12.3v within a minute or so, it's damaged as well.
  25. Quality is important, but it also depends on what you are using to view it on as well! The televisions i use are viewed at 540P but i encode in FULL 480P. The only time i don't is with trilogies. i encode in HALF 480P. I have done extensive testing and even gave a friend a test dvd with 13 different types of resolutions, sharpening filter selections and other various things used to retain that dvd look without pixelation, interlacing, edging, ghosting or blurriness to occur. I did this with the Matrix because the Matrix is VERY TOUGH! A lot of the movie may be slow but when it's fast motion, it's maximum fast motion so it's a challenge. The entire disc was created to fill up an entire DVD9 which it did. I would use HD-DVD or Blu-Ray but that technology still isn't anywhere near the performance to price of DVD yet. The quality is oh so perfect. Now, if the disc is viewed on a television that is capable of 720P or higher, then yea, i'd say you start to see pixelation for sure due to the size of the resolution the tv can be viewed in. Once Blu-Ray starts to become very affordable, i'll start doing this hobby work on those discs since you can get dual layered discs now that hold 50gb, that's plenty for a 720p video. 1080p as well should hold a good 3-4 movies on there no problem with the right editing. I have the software to create High Def video but it's pointless to use as it's only viewable on the computer.
