head unit decision
I apologize just looking for opinions for the headunit im going to put in my 2012 jeep compass I plan on running components and a sub and 1 if not two amps I am not used to true sound quality ive always done my stereos half assed before truthfully so trying to do it right don't want touch screen or any unnecessary features I have an android cell phone for the purposes of features of my research the unit I like absolutely best is Pioneer DEH-80PRS also considering Kenwood Excelon KDC-X997 Pioneer DEH-X9500BHS Mainly I like the idea of at least 4v preouts I want to try at least a 9 band equalizer with the time synch and other useful things to increase the sound quality of the signal any recommendations or opinions would be appreciated nothing is set in stone hoping for the budget to stay in the 350 max range but adj can be made also Bluetooth is required

dcon 12 enclosure design specific to my vehicle
well good then ive gotten off to an ok start numbers wise is tuning to 28 hz going to give me the lows i want? and was i correct in assuming as said in op that my components mids will provide the kick so that way my sub doesnt have to sounds as punchy? and i have no expierence at all so i will probably forego the plexi unless i pay someone to build it im not even sure i can build the box myself on account of i only own a drill and yea thanks for the offer its a shame i moved to florida years back i miss marion county and indianapolis

dcon 12 enclosure design specific to my vehicle
the calc lists port displacement 314.8125 and yea from the info ive read i think i deffinitley will be i just hope its not to hard to include that plexiglass viewing window and where abouts is monroe indiana im from wayne township this will be my first box build im thinking the port and plexiglass may be biting off a bit more than i can chew. this box wont require any true bracing correct just the silicone to seal the seams and screws? and is 3/4 mdf over kill for my application the most important thing i was worried about the dimensions ive used are acceptable right there isnt like a suggest wxhxd ratio or anything?

dcon 12 enclosure design specific to my vehicle
sorry my first attempt at sketch and i cant remember his name but i took the plexi idea from his project thread sketch i think the viewing window idea is cool he was doing a build using passive radiators and got to u ssa i think GCON renderings in his sketch regardless just giving credit where it is due here is my horrible first attempt

dcon 12 enclosure design specific to my vehicle
by using the re audio box calculator and attempting to account for the displacement of the sub listed on the ssa site ive come up with these specs i would like thoughts please and thank you im going for a mix of rap country and rock on probably 400 rms i figure once i get my components my midbasses would be mainly responsible for the kick is that correct where as if that is the case i would like for the sub to go low and hit the deep bass my available area is w38in h 15.5 in d 18.5 in the re box calculator says 36.5x12x13.5 with .75 for mdf would give 2.249 ft3^ that is with the ssa listed sub displacement of .14 included it also shows port height 10.5 width 1.5 length 1 11.25 length 2 5in for a port tuning of 28.18 sound about right? this is my first time attempting to build a box still on the fence about building myself after seeing the plexiglass in box idea in a build thread i think i really would like that

12" dcon
wow i also drive a jeep i drive a 2012 jeep compass and whenver i save up the money ill be getting as 12 dcon and i will most likely be contacting you pro rabbit to see about a quote for a ready cut ported box after hearing about those kind of numbers id like to see what mine will do
-
would this be effective
wow thanks for the in depth responses yes ill have to seriously consider it because i am never truly happy with what i have ill probably continually be upgrading but this dcon sounds amazing from the descriptions wish i would have known about it a few years back ill have to measure my cargo area to see how much room ill have to build a box because i want to go ported but i also need some sort of quick release set up to remove the box quickly to stow in my garage due to me being my fathers caretaker and his wheel chair goes there
-
would this be effective
I was thinking of the 3-5 channel to save the trouble of distibution block and the expense of buying 2 quality amps but i understand what your saying about upgrade potential that will deffinitley be something to consider its unfortuante i have no one local to hear either sub from youtube videos are absolutely useless and ive only had limited expierence with different subs im attempting to gauge how much output i need for my own personal taste without too much but the dcon is attractive because of the low power and super low price One big question i have only had cars previous how will the dynamics and out put of my substage change based on now i drive a crossover a 12 jeep compass i know this will significantly change my results correct:?
-
would this be effective
Would a 3 or 5 channel amp be effective for a front stage and a sub stage. or would it be best to have 2 seperate amps i saw i believe it was a arc audio 3 channel amp the other day with the perfect power amount for my current plan of comps up front and a single ssa dcon 12 in the rear. On a side note i had seen the fi ssd 12s and they look nice but there is quite a price difference and if im not mistaken they require quite a bit more power than the dcon am i mistaken ? I am pretty sure the dcon is my number one choice im just wondering how it measures up against the ssd what are the major differences?

hello from florida
Im trying i just wish i had more money currently all i can do is just keep planning and re planning because of lack of funds i want to do front components maybe like a $100 cadence set and put the tweeters in the place of the 3.5s in the dash but i wish someone made tweeter pods to place there so my tweeters would project towards me not the windshield also i was told i could amp the components with my stock amp i believe its 40 watts rms a channel that would be good for a compnent set correct? sorry in all my previous systems i was lazy and only used coaxials
-
12" dcon
So if I read the tread correctly a 12 dcon on 300 watts rms clean will do 138db or was that just sarcasm?

hello from florida
Well thanks all for the great reception, yea I do my best to read and respect the rules at all forums I participate in. What a small world my little brother goes to Saint Leo over there. Yea my Jeep has quite a few quirks it is not exactly the best purchase I have ever made, but I'm making the best of it. Although I think the Boston system is one of the best stock stereos I've ever heard, it would nice if the vocals got louder though and if there was a place for a tweeter so a front stage component set was easier. I don't particularly like the stock head unit because it freezes occasionally but I don't want to lose the functionality of my uconnect in steering wheel bluetooth and voice command just like my in mirror microphone. I have a Pioneer Premier DEH-P610BT practically brand new but I think it would be harder to figure out how to make the steering wheel buttons and mirror microphone work on that than just add the sub stage to the stock and then eventually a 4 channel amp and new front and rear stages.

hello from florida
To start i think the forum rules are hilarious there was no pulling punches but sensible nonetheless. I drive a 2012 jeep compass with the uconnect and boston acoustic amplified 9 speaker system. I have had a few different sub stages, quite a few different head units and a couple coaxials i have also done around 7 installs for experts and am learning everything as time goes on. I listen to literally every type of music which makes picking my equipment interesting and i am also broke thereby making it even harder. Last but not least if it wwas not abundantly clear i cannot punctuate or use grammar to dave my life im really trying here for y'all because it is in the rules but this will probably be the best i ever do.
