  1. no. you cannot possibly state that with the info given. the spl 12 is a potent driver. I'm sure the nightshade will be very nice as well, but it will be install dependant. bottom line- there isn't near enough info to state anything of that nature, just yet. Sorry, I should have clarified, I meant in size and beefiness of the sub, not in numbers necessarily. Either way I am sure it will give either of those 2 a run for their money and adds another option to Fi, DD, RE, Mach 5, Audioque and Treo for an awesome SPL sub.
  2. Holy chit! That thing beats the crap out of the Mach 5 SPL 12 and looks like it will beat a BTL no problem as well.
  3. I am still going to try and get some pictures with a real digital camera so it looks better than the cell pictures, but I have been quite busy with exams, homework and other groups i am in.
  4. Yes, I have, I just kind of want to do a frankensub, lol.
  5. Ok, good to know. I also want to be a tester for the new Mag 1 final question, would it be better to run 2 Mags off of a pair of SAE-1000Ds strapper for 1800 watts @ 2 ohms or a pair off of a SAZ-1500D @ .5 ohms?
  6. This all sounds very cool. One thing I have forgotten to ask this whole time is will these new drivers be neo motored? It sounds like a possibility considering how small and light you are going with them.
  7. It does sound really cool, I am definitely considering replacing my 2 12" BMs with 2 of the new Mags, not sure sealed or ported though, but either way the enclosure will be smaller, which will be very nice.
  8. I think 2 1500s gives you more flexibility for the future as you have 2 amps instead of one, plus I think the strapped 1500s might put out more power, but don't take that as anything close to true as I am not near 100% sure on it.
  9. I'm sure the SSD is great, but isn't the Icon more comparable to a Fi Q than a SSD?
  10. Haha, I didn't blow one up, I bought the motor from Chad Hicks, he got an Icon that was blown somehow, he didn't do it, he got it from someone. Anyway, I know I can do an SSA recone, just kind of want to have a frankensub, lol. why? a sub is designed a certain way for a reason..... True. I have also PMd denim about the price of a 12" basket and recone from them.
  11. I am looking for a recone for an SSA Icon motor and was wondering if you could do it. I am looking for max SQ as it is going to be for home use with a pair of B&W DM603 speakers. I also need a basket, I am looking for a 12" recone and basket.

  14. My first year doing AES, my 3rd year at MTU however. Sorry about not posting pictures, last week was busy, 2 hard tests and coming home for Thanksgiving break and also having a non functional computer made for a hard week. I also forgot to bring home my MicroSD card reader so I can't post the pictures now, so look for them next Monday or Tuesday.
  15. The drivers are all in and the thing pounds off of a Behringer EP2500, but is not nearly driven to its max. It's really weird when it in out of phase operation, it really is directional. I do have pictures, but they are crappy cell pictures and my computer died, so they may get posted Friday.
  16. Oh, I know, I can't wait to get more info on these beasts.
  17. Yes they can!! I love mine, very loud when I want them to be, shake teh entire car, but when I turn the sub output level down to normal listening levels in my HU they are very accurate and have great SQ, too bad they have 2.5" coils so if I blow one It'll be hard to get a recone Then again theres a good chance my BMs may be replaced with the next gen Mags next summer :)
  18. Can't wait to see pictures of these and hear how they perform, maybe I will drop my BMs for a pair of these on a 1500D.
  19. Too bad those don't have the fiberglass cone, those looked sweet.
  20. Yup, but ours is using SI subs so it will definitely be better.
  21. Good suggestion, the other problem though is impedance, we'll be able to figure it out, most of us are EEs afterall, but it may still be a pain.
  22. Well, to be honest there are quite a few gaps and stuff, we didn't have a table saw so they made a jig for a circular saw, it worked pretty well, but its definitely not the best. We will be filling in the gaps with both internal bracing and also construction adhesive and silicone. The difficult part may actually be getting the thing wired, it's going to be a pain with 20 4 ohm voice coils to wire.
  23. Nick was kind enough to donate ten 10" BMs to us for use in this project. We are very appreciative of his donations as IIRC these subs retailed for ~$230, so he gave us a $2300 gift, thats absolutely awesome of him. The point of it is to wire some in phase and some out of phase creating a sound envelope that dies off very quickly outside of that area so as to not disturb the neighbors or others in the house. Powering it will be at least 1 Behringer EP2500.
