  1. Money isn't the highest priority, sq is. I would prefer to have a high quality sub and pay a bit more than have an unknown sub. Thanks (can't spell today )
  2. Also on the table is the RL-p 18, and any other sq 18's that would fit in a small sealed box. Thanks again
  3. I have been shopping a bunch of different subs to upgrade to. I have locked my budget to 450 MAX. I have been looking at 4 12" type r's. Just recently, I got more interested in 2 15 type r's. Now I am between the 2 15 type r's and an aa havoc 18. I will be running small sealed- 4 cu ft. right now, probably get another cube with a few mods to my box. I have 4 10" mtx thunder 5500 at this time, and I listen to mostly rock/metal, 70's,80's and a lot of Pink Floyd. I want: 1) better low freq extension, 2) keep the tightness that I have right now 3)more spl. I have an saz1500d for power. Any honest opinions/recommendations plz? Pricing: 4 12 type r: 440 shipped 2 15 type r:410 shipped 1 havoc 18: 369 shipped Any help would be appreciated!
  4. Ok, that's all I needed to know. Thanks a lot guys!
  5. Thanks for the diagram jon, but I know how to wire it. My question was if the way you wired it( with each pair of coils wired in series) would be any better for output, or sq versus wiring each pair of coils parallel, then each pair of subs in series( 2 ohms per pair) then each pair of subs in parallel to the amp to achieve 1 ohm at the amp. Like this: sub1: coil1pos to coil2 pos, coil1 neg to coil2 neg...1ohms.....wire to sub2 in series to get 2 ohms for the pair..... wire to other pair in parallel to achieve 1 ohm. So, a parallel/series setup vs a series/parallel setup. Thanks
  6. The amount of wiring isnt an issue for me, just the performance of the system is my number one concern.
  7. I have 4 4 ohm 10's in my car now, wired to 1 ohm for my saz-1500d. I am thinking of upgrading to 4 12's. The 12's I am looking at only come in dvc config, so to get 1 ohm, i need to get dvc-2's. My question is should I wire the coils on each sub series and then wire the subs parallel, or vice-versa? Would it make a difference to the amp? I would end up with a 1 ohm load either way. Any help would be appreciated.
  8. Hi, I'm looking to buy a pair of Older arsenal 15's, I want to go small sealed with them... what are the sealed box specs on them please? Thanks
  9. does anybody have experience with the fi-q 15's in a sealed box?
  10. I need a little advice on a sub choice. I'm running 4 mtx 10's sealed right now. They are in 2.04 cu.ft gross per pair. I am wanting to upgrade to a single pair of 15's. I don't want to rebuild the box, just replace the mounting baffle. I am having a hard time finding a pair that will work in my sealed requirements. The only thing I have found is alpine type r 15's. I am interested in getting lower and louder than my 10's with good sq. I listen to mostly rock, metal, Lots of pink floyd, 80's hair bands, with some rap, techno. Any advice would be appreciated. Power comes from an saz-1500d, so 1 ohm operation is preferred. Thanks
  11. Well, in my install the woofer is down low in the oem position, and the tweet is up high on the door panel, and the tweets are pointed towards the windshield on the adjustable mount. I just recieved the d971's, paid 340 shipped, so I got a very good deal. It will be a while before they get installed, but I will post up with some results.
  12. About the Havocs, will the 15's work in sealed boxes, and what is recommended sealed enclosure size(or range)? Thanks
  13. Where would someone go to listen to or buy the hertz speakers? The website shows no distributors in usa or canada.
  14. Seems like nice stuff, but I don't think I want to go with hertz at all. One thing I like about the diamonds is the slightly larger midbass driver, and the metal tweet. Any idea which of the 2 systems I mentioned would give the best detail? Thanks
  15. I have never heard of hertz speakers... can you point me towards a website?
  16. Using a jvc kd-avx1, not using h/u power, I have approx 320 watts per side available at 4 ohms
  17. I have a set of alpine type x 6.5 comps in my car right now. I like the sound of them, but they dont handle quite enough power to get the loudness I want. I am considering either the boston z6's or the diamond d971's- both on ebay ~500 shipped. Has anybody out there heard these 2 sets of speakers to do a comparo? I would do a listen myself, but I dont really want to drive 4 hours to get to a shop that carries high end like that. I have had boston before and loved the sound( pro's and the old rally's). I have heard very good things about the diamonds but never actually heard any. As I said I like the sound of the alpine's, but would like a little more brightness on the tweeter, and a punchier midbass. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks
  18. Yeah, I have the sundown knob, I just didnt want to take the dash apart again, but after thinking about it, I probably will. Thanks
  19. Actually, I'm not using the crossover at all, I am plugging the Kicker gain knob that came with the crossover into the 1500 d and the behaviour I described earlier is what is happening. My question still stands... will it hurt the amp to use the kicker knob plugged into the sundown remote input? Thanks
  20. Question for yall: I just got my saz-1500d, hooked it up, all is good. With my previous amp, I use a kicker kx3 xover for the linedriver/bass knob features on it. Just for kicks, I hooked up the kicker bass knob to the sundown amp. It works fine, but when I turn the knob up over halfway, rather than increase gain, it decreases gain. It does get to the same volume level that the sundown knob gets to, I'm just wondering if it will hurt anything to use the kicker as it is already cut into my dash. Thanks for replies.
  21. Thanks for the welcome, folks. I just got my amp today, and it freakin rocks! I found rattles I didnt even know I had!
  22. Thanks for the advice sundownz, I will check them out, although I've been looking hard at the 3000's rather than the 2k. Silver, i have looked at FI as well, and am still considering them.
  23. Budget would be max of 700 for the pair.
  24. Yeah, thats my thinking as well. You wouldn't be able to point me in the direction of a pair of 15's that would handle the amp would ya? I have a max of 3.8 gross cu.ft. sealed, LSQ system.
  25. Awesome! That means I might be able to take the old kicker xover out that I use for the same purpose. One more question: My h/u puts out around 2 volts from the subout, the xover drives that up to 8. Should I keep the xover as a line driver or take it out, and just set the gains. Noise is not a problem in my system btw.
