  1. Rather than start a new thread, I'll post in this one as the title fits. Got into a discussion on another forum about the actual speed in MPH of a woofer cone at a given frequency. I dont know enough of the math to really figure it out, and I'm sure some of you do. What the other person said was that using an example woofer with 2" peak to peak excursion, the cone would move a total of 4 inches for any given cycle. Multiply that by number of cycles.. in this example 30. Multiply that by 60, and that by 60 again for inches traveled in an hour, divide that by 12 and that by 5280. So: 4x30x60x60/12/5280=6.82 miles per hour at 30 hz. My problem is that that seems really slow, I think there is another factor involved which isnt being taken into account. Hopefully one of you folks can help me out.
  2. What does this have to do with me?
  3. Its the only assassin sub with no depth listed on the website. Anybody have this info?
  4. Well, it looks like I'm starting to lock in on AA Assassin 8's, I totally forgot about aa when I was looking around.
  5. No, I have an absolute max of 5 inches depth. One sub I hadnt considered is the AA Assassin 8, anybody know the mounting depth on it? The AA website doesnt tell
  6. Too deep... almost 6 inches
  7. Great info here... thanks. Did you seal the ported box, or build a new box for it? What cu.ft did you go with?
  8. L7's are out due to price, L5's are my last choice, not necessarily due to percieved quality, just dont want to have what everybody else has. And FYI, sq is not dependent on size of the sub, I had a pair of 18's that picked up every nuance and subtelty of any music you could imagine.
  9. Yeah, i looked at the jbl, it's the same as infinity reference, and I dont like either one. Thanks for the opinion though, and advice on the re8
  10. I plan on going with some 8's, and due to the sundown e8 shortage, I have to change up my choice of subs. Here are my conditions: Sealed- no more than .3 cu per sub power handling of 250 RMS minimum Price must be 115 or less shipped per sub. Mounting depth of no more than 4 3/4 inches(this is important) These are the subs on my short list, please post your first hand listening impressions only, no "oh those suck, because all of that brand sucks" Kicker solo classic 8( the brand new ones)- really curious about these Kicker 08s8L5- I dont want to join the "me too" crowd, but I'll run them if they are my best choice Polk MM840 - The new MM series, NOT the old MOMO. According to t/s, they are not carryovers, for those that may say so. RE RE8 Please post up other 8's that I have missed that will do well in my app. I have looked at Parts Express, but honestly, without a trusted opinion, I wont buy any of them. It will be 8 8's in my crew cab Dakota. Must be sealed, and I have up to 4kw of power available from a Memphis Mojo 4kw. I would like 4 ohm subs to run the amp at 2 ohms total load for ~2kw total to the subs. If there are 8 sundown e8's out there, they are my first choice, so pm me if you have them, as this is not a "WTB" post. Thank you all very much
  11. OK, here we go: The subwoofer level is not a bass boost, it is a volume control for the subwoofer. When you tune it find some music that has a "medium"(to you) bass level, and set it to where its comfy at around -4( thats assuming the range is what you quoted), that way you have room for movement on heavier and lighter music. If your amp has a remote gain knob with it, then turn the sub on the deck all the way up, and use the gain knob to control your level. For the filter I would set it to either 85 hz or 55-60 hz depending on your personal taste. 85 hz will let a little more midbass to the sub, and will make it sound louder. Alot of that depends on your front components, if they are very good at bass, set the subwoofer to 55 hz, if not so good go 85 hz. The q1n etcetc is the width of the frequency, that is actually the eq you messed with there. What it does is it will boost a frequency, we'll assume 80 hz is what you picked. When you set it to n(narrow) it will try very hard to only boost that freq that you set. If you go w(wide) it will also boost the freqs around it, Play with it, I usually had the high freqs on 2w to help boost out to 20 khz. Like any eq, everybody has different taste so you will have to do that on your own. If you have a manula for the deck, I would read it, Pioneer is pretty good about explaining all that stuff.
  12. Dude start your own thread you dweeb
  13. One more thing, you know that your deck has an actual sub level control right? Your problem may be that it is set at 0 where it can go to +8 or 12. Go into your audio menu and look for it. You will also find your crossovers there for your mids, play around with that until you find a good setting.
  14. IIRC 40/62 on those pioneer decks is not very loud... I saw a 880 prs that didnt wake up until about 53 or so. Are you using an amp for the highs? If so, turn the gains down on it, to match it to the sub amp, and in turn you can crank the volume higher to get the output you need.
  15. I have the avx 1 which the 44 is based from. It is a nice unit, sq is pretty good on mine and I have only 2v preout vs the 5v on the 44. The screen has a good picture, although small. They say the 44 takes some getting used to because of the cameleon part, but the remote has good functions on it to get past that. As far as ipod goes, sq and ipod are mutually exclusive, and I dont know if the 44 does ipod or not.
  16. The one I saw was on a late 80's isuzu p/u same thing as an s10. He had 4 pioneer IMPP 8's on that with 600 watts, and it was stupid how loud it was, especially for what it was. His cab wasnt cut either, it was just siliconed to the back. I'll be running 8 sundown e 8's with 4 kw of power, so you can see my concern. It is ribbed
  17. I think I explained just fine, but to clarify no wall, behind the back seat under the window no blow through, no box on the seat, no box hanging out the window, no box floating magically on an anti grav device.
  18. Hate to say it but reading > you? I have seen it done before as well, with no deadener, it was crazy loud but flexed the whole cab
  19. I want to build a sealed box behind the back seat of my 08 Dakota Crew Cab. There is VERY little space back there, to the point that to get my airspace, I need to get rid of the back wall of the box. My idea is to use some damplifier pro or spectru sludge on the cab wall to create the back wall of the enclosure. Am I on the right track? Or is there a better way to do this. This is the only location I can use, due to restrictions from my wife. Thanks Rob
  20. Here ya go: http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-en/fun/P-Lot/...de=&play=30
  21. Actually, people try to put subs in the front all the time, maybe not in the dash so much, simply because of space issues. Look at Alpine's Imprint demo car( the wine red mercedes) It has subs in the dash... after getting totally gutted of course. You do see subs in kicks, front floors, under dash as well. The ultimate goal is to have ALL the sound come from front, bass included.
  22. I'm looking for adapters that are 1/0 and have a pin on the end to make it easier to plug the wire into the amps, dis. blocks, etc. I cant find theese things anywhere, can someone help me find some? Thanks
  23. Thanks for the quick reply, I sent a second pm to you.
