Most amps use the initial gain setting at the amp and the bass knob acts as a remote level control. I don't have first hand experience with crescendo but to my knowledge that is how it should be and I'd be willing to bet that your gain is set too high on the amp.

What is the gain set at on the amp?

How did you set your gain? How do you know that it is clipping?

How do you know that your pair is seeing 3k? I don't doubt that they could take it for burps or demos but running that much power daily is going to result in the sub/subs failing. That much power on a 2.5" inch coil is pushing it. The sa's are badass I'm not arguing about that at all.

What was it designed for? If I were you I would lean toward the zcon.

If I'm not mistaken the z v3 is sundowns sq ish sub? If it doesn't sound musical then the problem is your enclosure/install. It sounds great. I thought the Zcon was build to be purely musical, so i thought it might handle better. My bad if it came out wrong The zcon is geared more toward spl. This is not at all saying it can't sound good.

There is not enough info about the enclosure to be able to assume this. Its within the Zcon specs. Assuming its built well it should be just fine for one 15. Its even in the area for two 12's. If he is gonna use that box I dont see why one could assume it would work. Port area plays a huge role in how it will perform and we don't have that information.

I'm assuming you are referring to the Z v3? And if you are they are not comparable drivers in my opinion.

It does not want more power. Even if that amp is overrated it is plenty of power. If it isn't loud my money is on an improper enclosure or settings.
