2 grand is plenty for a "sq" set up. Agreed, a sound quality setup is more about the install and driver placement than spending big bucks. And, appearance of the install and what the judge wants to hear. Sorry, there is too much subjectivity and things out of the competitors control to take any "SQ" competition that includes appearance and no objective testing, seriously. And that is why my new setup will be tuned to my liking. Once I get finished I might enter in a comp just to see how it does, but in the end I am the only person that I'm trying to impress.

Between the two, if they are properly setup the Bl should be better for spl. I would look for a different amp though.

How do you know this? I have personally owned 2 Audiopipe amps and have installed 4 and I have never had a problem with the knob. As far as I know it's a remote gain knob. It reduces the output to near-nothing when it's all the way down (like the actual gain setting on your amp), whereas a "boost" knob wouldn't do that...I have had AP and AQX series also. And if he says "if we turn it down any more there is barely any bass" then isn't that setting the gain by ear, like most of us suggest? I don't doubt he grossly overpowered them but...I distinctly remember a thread where everyone was bashing the SMD DD-1 with comments like "use your ears!" and now we're here...lol I figured I'd post this and admit my defeat. I emailed audiopipe asking about the knob and this is what I got: Thank you for your interest in our product, I will be happy to help you. The included knobs on the AP series class D amps control gain/signal and not bass boost. Thank you, David Thornton

Then aside from that decide what to do with the sub. Wire it to 2 ohms. If you have a bad voltage drop rewire it to 8 ohms. Most cars can deal with 1000 RMS.

You can also run a a dvc 4 ohm sub at 8 ohms which would make your amp do less power. Do you have any equipment yet?
