  1. What would be a nice amp to power this design? http://www.zaphaudio.com/ZBM4.html I have a logitech 2.1 system and i know this maybe a bootleg way to do it but could i use the power from its 2 channels to power these bookshelf speakers?
  2. I need more help in the actual building the crossover. I'm using a premade plan. Building my first speakers and crossovers. Using this plan: http://www.zaphaudio.com/ZBM4.html In the crossover picture the negative side of the speakers has a line coming off it with what to me looks like a ground. What is it?
  3. I know that you dont need to ground the actual crossover, but what about the actual parts of the crossover? like the Air core inductor or the bennic poly parts?
  4. Could u start with something like this? http://www.madisound.com/catalog/product_i...products_id=525
  5. What is usually used to mount all the parts? Piece of wood? Plastic? How do you ground the parts also. I was looking at pictures on madisound to get an idea and i understand that a ground has to be grounded to metal but how do i attach the metal to the base? Do i need to build one crossover for each bookshelf speaker?
  6. Yeah i agree, where is a good place that i can learn more about crossovers. The picture confuses me a little. I need to build 2 crossovers right? and on that picture the line coming off the negative of the speaker is a ground? (5 of them?)
  7. Decided to start with something simple and cheap yet sounds like a very good start http://www.zaphaudio.com/ZBM4.html what you guys think?
  8. Thats what i've been learning in my research. The crossover is basiclly the most unknown territory that i am in. I am not worried about building the enclosure etc. So going witha certain plan sometimes just means building a better crossover
  9. That plan looks nice JimJ. Is that a relatively complicated build? Doesn't look to bad. Is that plan a lot more expensive then the other 2 way shelves on that site? I feel that for my first build i maybe shouldn't go all balls out but if it just comes down to them being better drivers thats not very difficult for my to understand and justify the price.
  10. Yeah i agree with you m5, i was waiting for your response. I came to appreciate your advice as you seem to always be helping with my car questions. What are some good plans that you have maybe had some experience with for a simple 6.5 mid and 1 inch tweeter?
  11. The number i have in my head right now seems to be around $800 - 1000 for amp, building materials, drivers but if i can reach great sound quality for $500 thats fine to- just not exactly sure prices yet on everything i know more car audio. I understand that home audio is almost limitless in quality and price - since its my first build i probably will go with 2 bookshelf speakers - 6.5 mids and 1 inch tweeter. Ideally i want a 3 way setup - 8 inch woofer, 4.5 inch mid, and 1 inch tweeter. Price difference? A lot better performance?
  12. Basically being at college sucks because i cant use my car and enjoy my car audio needs, so i am looking to get into some home audio. I want something i can build myself. Nothing to fancy yet, just a nice beginning build with great sound quality and a reasonable price for all materials, drivers, and amp.
  13. What does running bandpass mean? Is that just for 2 speakers?
  14. The coustic xm-7 is nice not sure where i can pick up tho and only slopes possible is 12db and not sure if that will intergrate the SEA's any better
  15. how good is that Memphis 16-XO3 crossover? Do you run the before your amps connected with RCA's? I want to get it so i can send my Sea's Excel a higher slope because i can only do -12 on my Pionneer 9800 and sundown 100.4
  16. Dan i appreciate the time you spent in that long post and i will defiantly do this troubleshooting process once i get out of the cold of boston and back home
  17. I recently just drove back to college and i took my sub box out to fit everything. SO i had a good 3 hours to listen to my mids. They are running around 35rms and they sounded great. Both of them sounded equally the same but once the power is turned up they go crazy sloppy, distorted. M5 you said awhile ago that they need a higher slope i just feel that is the problem still but i can only run a -12 slope.
  18. could the speaker wires guage have an effect like I'm describing
  19. You should look into Sundown Audio Amps. You can do the SAE- 1000D without the BP power option on the Q - about 1100 rms or get the SAZ - 1500D with the BP power option on the Q. Just my 2 cents
  20. I've taken the panel off multiple times and listened to the speakers with my ear a few inches away. The sound comes directly from the driver. It sounds like what paper breakup would sound like to me. The right speaker makes this sound more and alot quicker, the left speaker has alot smaller but still the same sound - just not as evident.
  21. haha that's what I thought.. So how should I go about fixing this signal problem. Would running it at a higher slope fix this
  22. How would I achieve a higher slope for these mids? They still have breakup at 35rms. I can only go -12 db with my pioneer 9800. Is there another external device I can get? Also why would the right speaker have more breakup then the left? It sounds like a zapping sound n its driving me crazyyy bc I can't listen to them the way I want
  23. Turned out the negative speaker wire came out of the output on the amp haha gotta start somewhere
  24. What is the excursion on these speakers? They are tightened down evenly and the installation is solid. I used 1/2 MDF wood that acted as a saver and a baffle to fight it in my 6 by 9 doors. The only thing that makes sense is that they still hit the factory grill, but at the same time the left door is completely fine and it isnt even sunken into the door as much.
  25. Its hard to describe but its driving me crazy. For awhile i feel it was the speaker hitting the front grill of the door panels so i did some work so it had more room for excursion but it still makes the sound. It sounds like a rattling of the speaker coming from the woofer. The left speaker doesn't make the sound. When you said you ran them on 55 watts you mean 55 watts and not 55 rms right. I get confused bc sometimes people dont say it and not sure if they mean either or.
