welcome to the site SI is working on a second line of subs, and SoundSplinter has the RL-i's the quality from both companies is top of the heap, the RL-i 10's might be a good choice, they are <$200, SQ is very good

one way to help preserve the sound of a mid bass is use a speaker cup / baffle, it acts like a little enclosure behind the speaker it self so the rear of the cone is not playing into a door cavity which is full of holes and funky surfaces

power is not always the answer, in a majority of problems, there is some issue with connections or grounding or frayed wires of some sort...
