1000 is not too much, as long as you are responsible with the amplifer, the box kent reccomended above might be a good place to start

I feel you should be fine with that power, there have been a few installs running more power to them, if you run them @ 4 ohms, they will see somewhere in the range of 600 watts which is well with in the range of the sub
