  1. I must say that I am new to this stuff. I had a JL Audio stealthbox taken from my truck. 10". It was powered by the Alpine MRV-500 and it never hit like I wanted. The sound was great, just not much punch. So I do not know if it was the sub, or the amp. With these, I know that the Amp will not like running to 1 ohm, or at least that is the consensus. This is why I am on the fence. The Alpine will likely go into the wife's car, with a home made box, and for that reason the D2 may not be the best choice. The D2 will go into my truck in a home made box (sealed) that I am most likely going to run with a Hifonics BX1500D, which can be had online for $200. I am hoping for JLW7 quality and quantity sound from this setup... -Crash you could always look at a 4 ohm mono amp, I have been scared away from Hi-Fonics of recent, I think eric77 is running one to his, but he has been fine so far, but in anycase, you don't need a claimed 1500 watts going to a single RL-p D2, you can get plenty out of it with much less wattage, causeing lower strain on your electrical system and less current needed, heck an Orion 6002 would push that sub fine, there are tons of amps out there that will do 4 ohm mono from 350 - 1200 watts, I just feel that people think they need to drive the sub to its limits all the time, and as we have found out on here the Sound Splinter RL-p does not need to be driven to its limits, mrray is running one with 750 watts and it is kicking butt in his wifes car, just food for thought, glad your getting one, cause I am too
  2. haha I have done something like 40 banners between here and a few other places and never charged a penny because I did not feel I was good enough anyway, I finished the D2 prototype box last night, I had to call in help, Amanda did a good amount of the glueing and set many of the screws for me to save me a ton of time while I was working on the port and baffle, on top of that on her day off she is making a run to the hardware store for me today, it is really nice to have help when in a pinch I sometimes wish I could fly a bunch of my car audio buds in and we do a full pull all out install, glass and everything
  3. I know thats why I feel bad that I did not have this up and running the day it got here
  4. so your asking for amp reccomendations? then we need to find something in the 700+ watts at 2 ohms mono.. if so there can be good deals found 2k3 rf 1001bd's or even the 1501's, both very stout amplifers, but will not see the 1501 below 300, or maybe a pair of smaller amp but that would be harder to fit into the budget.. you could also consider something like the Orion 6001 and the Kicker 600.1, both I have seen spec out well into the 700 range (someone posted a kicker on ebay just shy of 800) if you want bigger power, the MTX 1501D is always a good option, might be a hair over your price limit, even though there was a rash of problems with the first run of the Xenon amps from PG, they have fixed the problems and those amps are very flexiable, if you could find another Alpine MRD-M301, there is one for sale in the classified section on here I hope that helps get you started
  5. welcome welcome, glad you found us
  6. there seems to be about 5 people in limbo, which could translate into about 7 subs..
  7. hey kent, do you remember the box building competition on SD? well I would like to do something similar to the winner of the advanced class just without the plexiglass top and 10 layers of paint, but with a single sub, maybe dual would be cool, but 1 would be more fun something around 1.75 cubes
  8. nauc, kent and mike would know best, I will have mine in a ported tuned lowwwwwww
  9. I feel bad, because I want to hear it asap, and I know other do to, I am suprised that there is no one in the area, so me and Ferdinand will have to write the review ourselves
  10. did you get the logo set up yet? if you want to use some shots I take for the demo go for it, even though the box is not pretty yet
  11. Nick if you come north some (and make it through the VA speed traps), it would be cool to hit up a show with you and your crew now I need to save some loot and order an SI shirt
  12. I work two jobs and I built most of sunday, and last night from 8:30 to just shy of 2:30 am, and I had to be in the office at 8:00 don't worry I am not wasting any time.. it goes in tonight after my last training appointment and I will listen to it as much as I can in the shortest amount of time as possible and ship it out asap, it is so pretty, I am going to be sad to see it go
  13. I prefer to double layer the entire box, and if I have time lay resin down, and if I cut them right, lay down corner 45'ed pieces (ported only) I have seen a few installs recently that do double threaded bolts that span the heigth or width of the box, personally I get a kick out of making a box that is super stiff
  14. it sounds good so far, I am interested to hear your take on the NEXT amps
  15. the box I just built is tuned to approx 26-27 hz, but I would love to try the upcomming LMT tuned to 18 or 20
  16. well this would be for my truck, I have over 22' of RCA's to run, and I have always had my Overdrive up front, but there has been many pro spl installs where the overdrive or matrix is in the rear
  17. better price than I paid for my 8053 last year
  18. No thanks man, I figured that you were busy with the new job and such so I made on in my spare time. well my days are a minimum 14 hours, so the problem is not having access to my photoshop until late at night or for a few hours over the weekend Hey not a problem, you have to make a living somehow, personal life first we all know that. well if I land the job I am going after, I can live a little more comfortable and not work two jobs, and detail cars and do merchandise on the weekend

  21. I dont think you need 750 for FULL output, but it seems to be the optimum wattage posted so far
  22. Hey man, 'you listened to the sub yet?! box should be finished tonight if I like it as much as I think I will, humm maybe a SPL comp single 12 set up would be fun to build
