well for now it'll be run in a trunk, but I'm not to worried about that. When I do the comp's with it it'll be moved into a hatchback and that'll get some crazy numbers i'm hoping!! my main hope is just that its pretty musical for my daily driving. If I am running a BL now and am satisfied with it, would you say the nightshade is above that in terms of musical? or doesnt sound as good??

Tips for building good boxes
Hey guys! I did a bit of reasearch but couldn't find a good topic about this. What do you guys reccomend for some good box building tips for the best box possible? Not like designs so much (Although if you wanted to post set-ups such as like...Explorer, sub up port back (as an example) that might be helpful to some), but things to do in the box. Things like: Rounding the port edges to flairs 45 degree angles in the corners for standing waves placing the subwoofer so its at the back of the port length where to add braces so that turbulence is minimized (or using rod threads or your favorites) those were a few I could think of as example and I'm not even sure if they're all correct, but hopefully it will give you an idea of the tips i'm looking for! Thanks for all the input!! Please correct any of the above if they are wrong. The placing subwoofer at back of port is one i'm not sure about, but I think i saw it somewhere.

yeah, I saw that post and i was amazed to say the least lol But I didn't see much in there about the sound quality factor. I guess giving you an erection though I should assume its overall a pretty clean sounding sub huh haha What sub would you compare this to 80INCHES?? Do you have it in the sealed still? or ported now?

Ahh perfect, yea, thats the kind of information I've been looking at. Currently I have an 18" BL @ 35Hz running off 1000-1100ish watts and am looking at replacing it with a 15" Nightshade off a SAZ-1500 in about a 4cu ft @ 32Hz maybe. Trying to feel out the differences in SPL and clarity of the subs in comparison. Good to see you comparing it to some BL's! Does this thing run off 1500 watts well? I see that its rated at it...but will this get it to maximum performance? or do you really need some more power to make it perform well?

Just wondering if any of you guys had posted up a comprehensive review of the nightshade?? I've searched the forum a bit but haven't found much info on it other then its loud!! I was looking for any reviews in like the daily driving aspect of it/how it sounds/comparable subs/things along those lines. Hoping to see a good review up if you guys could!! Unless I missed something when I was searching through, but I couldn't find a full product review on it! So far things look good, but I was just hoping to see a bit more details about the subs listening style and how it sounded in daily driving.

15" BL Matched with SAZ-1500
Hey guys, looking at pricing out a 15" BL and i wasn't sure what types of options I would need. I'm going to be running this off of a sundown 1500 @ 1 ohm and am looking to get away with the minimal options needed. My typical driving habits are pretty easy. I dont really ever bump it except a few times for like 10, 15 seconds. Would I be able to get away with just flatwind or something along those lines? About once a year i use this in a competition of maybe....2 runs of test tones for 30 seconds. Otherwise its pretty much your basic driving subwoofer, not a lot of banging on it. Lemme know what you think I can get away with or if I just need to get it fully loaded!

Need Some Guidance Deciding On Subs
well i'd say to go with the BL. The differences between the Q are mainly in what they try to obtain. They both run fine off similiar powers and will both have good output. The main goals of the Q though are to sound a bit better, and the BL is meant to achieve a bit more SPL. I would just talk over the design of the box because that will have the greatest affect on what type of sound the subwoofer will reproduce. You're gonna wanna go for around a 32-34Hz tuning range I'd say and look at Fi's recommended box sizes for the 12" BL's if thats what you choose to go with. I've never had a box built by them or seen a box built by them so I'm not familiar with the type of work they do. Id say just go wth the BL! sounds to me like thats exactly what you're going after if you're looking for a bit more SPL from the subwoofer

Problem Mounting Sub Enclosure
just to clarify...you're trying to bolt the box to something other then the spare tire one correct? and you want a way to get the box configured somehow so that if you have to remove a spare tire you still can?

Need Some Guidance Deciding On Subs
I'd say take the Type-X out of the equation. While not a bad sub, I much prefer the Q or Icon or Havoc or any of those other lines above the Type-X. Secondly, why pick the Q over the BL?? I'd say either the Q or the BL will fit your needs, you just have to decide if you want a bit more of a louder set-up or a bit more of the nicer sounding. Do you have any subs you've referenced these to? I run a BL now and it gets loud and for the type of bass lines jeezy has and what not, I'd say it sounds "quality" if you can use that word in that sense. When you say hear all the notes...do you mean your highs? or you just mean not having a peaky, one note wonder box? Answer these questions and we can help you out a bit more, but from what I've seen I think maybe 2 12" BL's will be perfect for you. They kind of fit right into the category you've been hoping for I think.

Subwoofer choices
yea. Thats kind of been the idea that I've been going with. And I'm thinking it'll even end up being louder with a better sound due to a lower tuning, more box size, and of course, more power. Problem with the reconing is that my sub right now is a D1 and I need a D2 so i'd have to practically get a whole new sub. but for now i think i'll just sell my 18" and buy a 15". I think it was just the inner me that wanted to try something new, but I may as well stick with what works for me!

Subwoofer choices
hey guys! Here's the dealio. I currently run an 18" BL tuned to 35Hz and am looking to upgrade. Its in a tiny tiny box, (maybe 5 cubes) and I know I need more space, but i cant make anymore in my trunk so I'm switchign it out! Here's what i have to work with. Sundown 1500D for my amp around 4.5 cubes, maybe upto 5 max if I need it biggest sub size i can fit in there is a 15" I don't really have a budget...maybe $400 max for the sub(s). Goals for this are to have a little bit more lower end output (will be tuning to around 32Hz for new box) What are some good sub reccomendations?? I've been looking along the lines of...SSA Icon, Fi BL(15"), Sundown Nightshade( possibly...but I was hoping to see a review on this one first) what are some other ones or reccomendations?? I was hoping to get some good output and either same SPL as the BL or better. lemme know if this helps!

my firt SPL reading ever
i'd say thats pretty good. Obviously if the enclosure is to small ur gonna lack a lot of output. Why can't you make it bigger? i'd think your trunk would be pretty ample sized! As for the RF 800a2, Those things are pretty beastly! i'd say you're doing pretty good. i'm guessing it was a TL mic? dash? kick? let us know!

my system
man.....id say get some electrical goin!! post in here to get some good advice on that. But you're really hurting your system if you have all of those watts and only 2 kinetics. Is everyting else stock??

Weird Noise in Honda
I also know it had a new timing belt on there about 20k miles ago and it was done by a shop. So maybe that would rule out that possiblity? or at least move it down the list of things I had seen on other forums. Looks like things to check are: Heat Shield and the Spark Plug you had talked about are there any other symptoms of the spark plug problem i should check for?
-
Weird Noise in Honda
also forgot to add though, about your spark comment. it doesnt happen at low-low RPM's though. Would that rule out this possibility? Like if i'm at 2100 RPM's, then I feel/hear no vibration at all. but as soon as it hits that 2500, I can feel it through the floor and then past that its gone. Its only like a 2400-2600 RPM range and that really is it which is why it seems so odd to me.

Weird Noise in Honda
Tires I think can be ruled out...I just got 4 new ones like say 2 weeks ago, balanced and everything, and there hasn't been any difference what so ever with this problem. And by vibration though its not like a car vibrating, more of a humming/vibrating. But you can feel the vibration only underneath the accelerator pedal really. Its only noticeable to me though. I've asked passengers and they have never noticed the noise. maybe something that runs beneath the drivers side only??

Weird Noise in Honda
Hey guys, I don't really get into car forums much, so I figured i'd post in here and see if you could figure something out or gimme a starting point! I'm having some "road noise" issues if you'd call them that. I'll give you the breakdown: CAR: 1995 Honda Accord EX Sedan PROBLEM: Around 2500 RPM's, I can "feel" the engine beneath my seat(the drivers) and its sort of like a buzzing/vibrating noise or feeling. Its like the engine accelerates smooth, but then as as soon as it hits that spot(2500 RPM), it feels really rough, then gets back to smooth at like 2800 RPM maybe, around there. Its in accelerating/decreasing. I can't remember now, but I think if I"m in park and rev the engine I don't feel it... but I'll have to check that out and get back to you. But for now I think it only happens when im in gear. POSSIBLE PROBLEMS(Things i've researched on the internet my own): Timing belt is to tight Heat shield bolts are beginning to come loose or it rattles Those are about the two main ones I found. Anyone else have any other ideas??? I can't really take a engine noise video cause I dont have a camera right now. But hopefully i've described it well enough. I did get a new muffler on the car when I first got it, but I never drove it really to hear if that noise was present.

35 hz too high for daily BL?
Mine's in a 5.5 ft box I believe, maybe 5.6ish And yeah, the low's are definetely not at full potential. I dont really drive around bumping it and so I never notice that much at high levels cause well, I just never really listen to it that loud I guess. If you can tune lower, i'd say go 32 or something. Thats been a real good sweet spot with the BL.

35 hz too high for daily BL?
I currently run an 18" BL tuned to 35 Hz and it is plenty loud for me. Yours will be looking good I'd think. Mine's in a very minimally sized box (lacking a lot of low end) and i still think its respectable. I'd say with that size of box and it'll work good. Is there an easy way for you to change it? or are you wondering more if its just going to be disastrous?

Box and amp recommendations for a 15" BTL
First thing id have to say is do not run a BTL sealed!!!! it just isnt meant for it. as for the BTL's, they've been revamped and you have nothing to worry about with the amount of magnets. If you do some seraching you'll find out that they've been well thought out. Do you have the electricals for 2400 watts? What set-up do you have now?

NEEDED: Plans for a box design 2 15" Type R's
i'm sure someone on here can help you out with a box design for free. But you need to give us some more information. Size you are going to work with, what tuning you are looking at. and if you don't know the tuning maybe give us the genre of music its based for, your listening preference, if its an SPL, daily box a few details like that

18 Fi Bl setup
I currently own an 18" BL in the same config as you mentioned and I am running mine with 8 gauge speaker wire, but its plenty overkill. You'll have a bit of a hard time fitting that into the terminal if its not perfectly tight and no loose wires. I'd say 10 or 12 gauge will work fine. Either one really. As for how to put it into the sub, you just shave off the wire and its a spring loaded terminal. No banana plugs or anything like that needed. 6 cu ft after displacement should do you fine. As for the tuning. thats really more up to you. Depends if your going for the lows or if you really wanna just get some crazy loud stuff. Mine is tuned to 35 I believe and its lows, while still impressive, aren't as loud as something tuned lower. Its upper end though is pretty ridiculous! lemme know if you have anymore questions!

which should i go with? re mt fi btl aq hdc3
