Mike R Home Theatre IB subwoofer project, IB subwoofer's (15"
I see that you plan on using the Behringer FBQ2496 and the mic. I have a feeling that you plan on using the Room EQ Wizard? ( http://audiojunkies.com/blog/1163/room-eq-...0-now-available ). I looks like it would be fun to mess around with. As for sub, I am not familiar with IBs very much at all. I looked at the IB15 to use in a large sealed enclosure(16cu.ft.) but since decided not to for various reasons. The only speakers I know specifically designed for IB use are the AE IB15s and the Fi IB ( http://www.bladeice.com/ibseries.php ) Not sure how those prices covert to USD, but I'm sure you get get in contact with someone from Fi and they can give you a good idea. Good Luck

are class a amps really that much better in terms of sq?
Yes i did see it but then I started to think in generalities. (My mind wanders because of a little thing call ADHD, oh sweet, Prigles) I have never really listened to a specific amplifier vs another amplifier with differing topology in similar listening conditions just to compare the sound. Still interested.

Me too! Unfortunately, I have never heard a "true" IB set up. I would love to try one!

are class a amps really that much better in terms of sq?
I'll Agree with that(from my personal experiences, read below though) I would think that the speakers being used and the installation are going to have more influence on how the audio sounds rather than the amplifiers. But then again I don't know. I have had a number of car audio amps on the same speakers and never heard a noticeable difference. And that's the way it is in car audio. But Home stuff is completely different. There are all kinds of people who swear that tube amps sound better(regardless of some of their higher THD when compared to SS) than any solid state(one of the reasons I decided to restore my own tube amp) and then there are the people who say there are not an audible difference between solid state and tubes. This whole thing is completely debatable. I can see where both sides are coming from. Class A are truly linear amplifiers meaning that the transistors or amplifying devices are conducting for the full 360 degrees of a sine wave whereas a Class AB conducts for half that and is susceptible to crossover distortion. Some people think that the more linear the sound is the more natural it is in comparison to lets say someone actually playing an instrument right in front of you. But the crossover distortion is so low in commercial amplifiers that i don't think it is possible to hear and audible difference. When Class D amps can send high and low pulses to make a sine wave with THDs as low as .001%, I find it hard to believe that a truly linear amplifier will sound that much different when compared to any other well designed class AB or D. When comparing THD numbers they can both have good and bad ratings. Now this has gotten me thinking. I want to hear Class A vs. AB. vs. D with the same THD ratings. I would be surprised to hear any difference. I'd like to hear more opinions on this topic. And to elaborate a little more, Tubes vs. Solid State. JimJ, I know you're a big tube guy. I saw some of your old posts on ForceAudio. What's your take on Tubes vs. SS? Why do people prefer one to another? Enough with this ramble. I'm going to get some food and head to bed hopefully. Early class tomorrow

Tell us your personal fitness goals
I want to be just like my Dad! 5'8" 300lbs. with a 630lb bench press! Actually no not at all. But my dad is probably one of he biggest guys my height. I plan to start biking this summer when gas prices soar and my gas mileage stays around 15 according to the Lincoln. I want to lose the gut I have gained over the winter. I do a good amount of daily walking. A few miles a day while working at least. But biking and losing the gut at very least. Thinking about using my Y membership and do some upper body again. Get my arms back!

For anyone who thinks SQ can't be loud...
DAMN! What would be an estimated sensitivity rating on those? I'd assume pretty high since 3 watts was "loud"!

Welcome to the IHoP
Free amplifier for me! Old Rockford 800a2 works perfectly! The local shop gave it to me for free thinking it didn't work(i was told that it wouldn't power up). I got the schematics from rockford and was going to go through the power supply just now at school....well I definitely hooked it up to a 12V power supply and it powered right up!

Mike R Home Theatre IB subwoofer project
Welcome! Looks like an awesome project you have going on! If you don't want to spend tons of money on the subs, I know Acoustic Elegance is having a sale on their IB15s. $100 per driver. http://aespeakers.com/shop/catalog/product...0d51f217e22c423 Pretty Cheap and definitely applicable to your project. Otherwise I know that Fi Makes and IB subwoofer too.

The rebuild of my 05 Civic
Looks like a great start! When are you planning on buying the 9887 to run active? It's something I have been wanting to do, however I have no money available for it. How do those comps sound? I was told they perform exceptionally well for the price! And btw, if you are having any problems finding something to do with the XXX, send it over to Minnesota! I'll be more than glad to take it off your hands

Passive radiator suppliers.
TC/AudioPulse was supposed to have PRs but i don't know the state of their company at the time As for the AE PRs, they are quality. A buddy of mine has 2 15" AE PRs and they work great. And I know AE just got all their passives in stock now.

haha happa thats kinda funny but you should try halfling its way smoother lol. but whats the "i bet the chicks dig you part white part asian GUS?"mean, i dont understand that. halfling sounds too geeky haha. go up to a girl: "hey baby, are you a halfling? lets make quarterlings together with my level 23 rod of fire" oh my bad, i meant "guys" yea halfling is said to be funny i guess. and i am totally lost about the "level 23 rod of fire" lol and i guess girls dig that im part white part asian, they dont know that im really that till i tell them tho. and they still hop on me no matter what I think i like Quartorean. For some reason, when I ask people what they think I am, most people think I am Mexican. I have the dark hair and skin with the bushy eye brows. But for the most part girls dig the dark skin, but I'm not going to go as far as saying that they "hop on" no matter what. I'm not that smooth. LOL
