My final decision
i'd still concentrate on the front stage if you want a truly phenomenal sounding vehicle....but based on what you are asking, they are all pretty good subs so it's all up to you

Any new 2008 cars your excited about??
how about the new Mazda RX-7 that is suppose to be coming out...haven't seen any pictures yet but it is suppose to be pushing around 300hp from a 1.6 liter N/A!(rotary power of course) so i can only say that it will probably be an awsome car

Brahma Troubles again
lol i'd have on goofy looking speaker....i wish i could find a duscap similar to the RE cones, like the SE cones...a big dish, or even better the old eDuh A series flat carbon fiber cones...i'm not too worried about adding mass to the driver anyways, it'll just lower Fs and change a few t/s parameters....
-
Recone for a brahma please?
don't even try it! lol i'd try to e-mail Fi...i asked a while ago and never got a reply on here... too bad i am broke now....let me know how this project turns out did you sell the MT yet?
-
Brahma Troubles again
you would think it would work....but i want to play it safe, plus i already have the dustcap removed so i can just shim it...i just have to stop being lazy and find a dustcap so i can get it working again!
-
old JL 10 value?
i might guess a w3....i know the original w3 series have stamped frames and the paper...maybe an original w6 series or w6ae, but i don't remember if they have a stamped frame my only guess

motor question
never had a problem like that! i have no idea how you could fix it....can you move the pole piece around? if you can i would find a way of centering it then gluing it, but that would prove to be difficult....iirc the motors are assembled before the are turned into a permanent magnet, i would just find it hard to get it truly center with it wanting to move around so much

MTU Dodecasub
wow i am more than impressed with the quality of the woodwork and the design is this school project or something?(the MTU in the title got me curious)
-
what amp
i don't have any experience with the customer service...i heard it was good...i'm not a huge fan of them and their cult... they used to make awsome subwoofers but their new stuff has never impressed me much...but the nine.1 has been a very dependable and beefy amplifier for the price...i know at least 5 people with at least one nine.1 and none of them have ever had problems with them and they definetely will pound
-
what amp
i forgot the link http://www.edesignaudio.com/edv2/product_i...;products_id=44 the one thing that catches me about eDuh is their warranty also 5 years!
-
what amp
that would work.... as for the voice coils, it would all depend on what amp you plan to use....if you used that Hifonics, you would get the Dual 1s....Wire the coils in series so each subwoofer has a 2 ohm load then parallel the two together for a 1 ohm load.... look up some wiring diagrams and figure out wiring speakers for proper impedances...this will help in your search of amplifiers...but the Hifonics would work...they are a good Budget amplifier but i hate to say it..but i think the eD nine.1 would be a better choice for you...i'm not a huge fan of Elemental Designs but the nine.1 is a good amplifier capable of putting out more than the rated power...like JimJ said...you don't need 2K Watts...1200 would be fine(even though i have read that bench tests show its around 1400-1500 watts)....
-
MTU Dodecasub
that think is wicked! where'd you get the money to fund this?(all the speakers?) i have never seen this done....what is the advantages/drawbacks of this? and last question..lol....what are you going to power the speakers with
-
what amp
WAIT! do you have the Dual 1 or dual 2 ohm coils?
-
What would you chose?
Like JimJ said...all depends on the install/application.... i've seen cars with 2 10" Solo Xs hit higher numbers than 4 12" DD 9500s with 2 rockford 4000w titaniums and at least 1500 in batteries...it all depends what you're going for....i'd say either will be loud..hard to tell what would be louder, but i'd say the BLs would sound better

Kind of an odd question
Telarc does a good job with The Planets, IIRC theirs is the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. I can't remember which version the MoFi one is, but I had it before my hard drive crashed and it sounded pretty good as well. I hear amazing things about the Vienna Philharmonic's version, but that was done in the '60s for Decca and I'm not sure if it was ever put on little shiny disc... i have the Zubin Metha LA Philharmonic Orchestra's version in my iTunes, i am assuming that it's the same as what you are talking about, it sounds good to me(although my ears aren't trained as well as some other people's) Mars, The Bringer of War is an awsome track from The Planet

A few Shots
that is a badass sub! we need some specs!

got my badly conditioned 18" xxx today :D
yeah a bunch of us are over at force, but that is kind of dead.... but about your SUb....DAMN those are ghetto tinsel leads! lol but i would almost vote to fix it...personally i would replace the tinsel leads and order a new surround from Fi and then use that for anything you can...lol it'd probably be a killer HT sub...that's just my opinion...i'd fix it just because i have always wanted an 18" XXX about the atlas...i'll pay shipping on it
-
Kind of an odd question
i know what you mean by in the stage of listening to classical(but not classical for me), i have recently gotten into a bunch of different music...it used to be strictly rock and a little bit of rap, but recently i have gotten into some classical, a lot of jazz(armstrong, coltrane, davis, zappa, etc.) and even a bit of techno...lol but if you're looking for good classical... i'd Suggest Holst-The Planets there are newer recorded CDs that you can find on the internet...maybe try and DL it first and check and see if it sounds like it is recorded in modern times
-
What would you chose?
those are decent in terms of good sound in my opinion....are you more concerned about it being good quality sound or chest thumping bass if you want the good sound, i go with Fi, but i'd upgrade/downgrade to the Q, if you want loud i'd go kicker or the Fi BLs the w3s don't compare in terms of output to either of the mentions above...but w3vs do sound very good

got my badly conditioned 18" xxx today :D
i'm voting the wall socket then taking it apart...where'd you get the 18" XXX anyways? oh BTW nice to see you around

Rolled my car trying to hit an Armadillo.
sounds almost as good as Mr. Turbo Spool at 12 MPH Guy from the Nasioc Periodic review video.... lol but serious...how did you flip a car trying to hit an animal? was it in the ditch?!? but glad you're alright...that'd be pucking crazy

Brahma Troubles again
nope no way it's going to happen...the coil just moves way too much in the gap right now to try and glue it...i think my only option is to get a dustcap
-
Brahma Troubles again
well the brahma started to sound funny so i pulled it...i figured the triple joint that i fixed came undone...but i guess i did a better job than i thought because the triple joint is fine...the spider came unglued from the frame! i plan on fixing it until i can afford a re-cone to a different size, but does anyone have any good tricks to align the coil so i can glue the spider back on? i figured i'll probably have to remove the dustcap and use shims to align the coil but i figured i'd ask.... anyone know where to get replacement dustcaps?

not to sound stupid ?
Imprint does sound pretty cool.. I just didn't want to have to up front throw down another 500 bucks to use the active xover feature. Thanks for the personal experience though, it's helpfull to have that. I don't know of any shop in MN that would help me out with that imprint feature, and I refuse to pay what the local shops ask for in alpine prices. I live in MN and there are no good deals going on here anywhere. I can find the 9887 for over 300 bucks less online and no tax or shipping, no one would even negotiate on that specific unit. If there was a local trust worthy small shop I would check it out I try to suport local tallent, but all we have are big box stores with jack asses working there. The only nice guy I met had his hands tied wish a 25 dollar rebate intill christmass season. Thanks for all the help guys, if anyone knows of another HU that out of the box is set up to run active Xovers let me know. I liked the look of the alpine and it seams to get good reviews but the menue system really sucked when I tried it.. but I supose I woudl get used to it. i'm am from MN...where in MN are you...if you are looking for a shop...Audio Designs in winona carries the 9887 and i think they have it listed at 400...plus the 9887 also has a graphic or parametric eq, ipod interface, good processing the active x-over, and who knows what else...it's a hell of a deal for a HU either way...PM me and i could talk to someone at the shop...i have a few friends over there WHAAAAT swetness. I'm in MPLS PMing you my man. sounds good...mpls isn't too far from winona...maybe 2 or 2.5 hours...depends how you drive
