  1. Never mounted an amplifier right next to a woofer before, so it i tried it. Currently I have two 15" Fi Q's mounted invertedly behind the back seat of my car. There was just enough room to mount the p450.4 in between the magnets of the Q's, which positioned the amp perfectly at the reach through in the back seat. Doesn't seem to affect any perfomance aspect of the amplifier, so I guess all is good there, maybe i got lucky, or maybe i'm just sketchin. Next item of business though, What about mounting batteries too close to woofers? Does it matter? Talking kinetiks here too, not some cheap lead acid. I wouldn't see why this would be a problem, but I learn new things all the time... Any takers?

how do 18 btls compare to other 18" woofers out there....it's just a larger woofer...
  3. the magnum def. wangs...that's my ride on the right side of the magnum, i actually ran against him in the quarterfinals in BR, nice run man! was fun and team sundown def. had a great showing...
  4. No offense, but that kicker probably clips pretty early, especially trying to power those woofers. I would be thinking about a different amp. But still that amp should still make some noise out of those BTL's.
  5. bass boost should always be on 0 no need for it, plenty of signal power should be able to come from your deck to let the amp reach full power
  6. yeh man let us know how it works
  7. http://forum.soundpressure.com/showthread.php?t=4030 i'm running the 2008 model, i'm sure their anniversary model will be just as good or better. and all their amps will do within 10% of rated power, that's maxxsonics standard, except for the crunch pro amps, (only the 3000d models) and the hifonics XXV models, they are tested to push their power at 13.8v, and that's the full rms they are rated for, XXV's and the 3000d-pro amps are absolute beasts...
  8. alright, problem fixed, sorry didn't post pics today, but I fixed the problem, will run it at SBN this weekend and come back sunday night and post a vid of the car bein metered... and hopefully some others.
  9. nice input, and correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't true that if you are trying to play a woofer or "break it in" but going easy so that it doesn't move a whole lot, you are therefore counteracting the cooling system in the speaker and really just heating up the vc? or maybe that's just getting to in depth of a speaker for this thread...
  10. i just wish I could move my box around, well sealed up part of it last night and it made a big improvement. will finish doing that today, then post pics later hopefully with a vid of the results. my goal is to compete in BR 140-149.9 class.
  11. true, but only on the high frequencies, then you would lose major db's below 40hz. get two sets of the infinity's, will run cleaner, better to have 2 sets properly power IMO than 3 just trying to be louder, I'm running two sets of mb quarts comps in the doors off of a fosgate p450.4, amp tested to 96 rms X4 at 4 ohms, and the speakers love it loud and clear , and keep with the two 15 Q's just fine, of course this week the 3-way active setup goes back in so that should center the stage quite nicely and give me that much more. for just a loud daily beater though, two sets with that amount of power should be perfect.
  12. oh yeh pics, i guess so...well its 1 am now, i will post pics after class tomo morning, I think i am going to seal everything off from the cab, so that the port and the woofers are in same airspace as the cab obviously, then everything else sealed off from there. will def. post pics though tomo morning for final input. I do have to say though, I have sat in systems doing 148, 149, and with the trunk open (by ear mind you) I would crush them! oh yeh also a note, I have my vents in the trunk that go to outside of the car sealed up from my last install, guessing i should leave it that way if i'm going to seal off everything else?
  13. yeh, that was my original design and i was told that would be bad, but now i'm questioning whether or not it would it would have been, that's a lot of work though considering the box is built into the car, so that is basically what im going to try if a couple other ideas fail... i agree though i almost thing that would fix the problem.
  14. not the level, he's talking about the EQ portion, do you have any sort of equalizer or processor running in your system or built into the HU? (have had one Q 15 in a 5cube box at 28hz, and presently two of them in a 7.2 tuned to 32.5hz, so yeh I know how they play) THEY WANG!! lol sounds to me like it could be possible you tore a spider, and when the woofer isn't moving much on the higher notes it would be ok, but on the lower notes, when it is moving more, nothing attached to actually make it move, only thing is, you would notice a "slapping" sound, and from what you are describing it just plain is not playing the lows. have you moved your box's location or anything to change the phase? or have you accidentally changed the phase setting on the amp/processor?
  15. Hybrid 12's would be appealing, do have to say though, I'm lovin Fi car audio's new Ib3 woofer, 550w RMS at 20hz, yes at 20hz, and they rumble, made in 12s, 15,s and 18s. They also have a lower power handling even more SQ version called the Ib2. Not on their site, but if you call you can get one. Well priced as well, picked up a 12 for 195 to the door, in my buddies mustang GT, and the quality is absolutely awesome, plays every note and does everything we ask of it, only problem is keeping it tamed...at higher volume levels it has a tendency to break off screw heads as if they were finishing nails holding a roof truss, hopefully the 1/2" bolts will make a difference.... OH YEH STILL LOVIN THE V2'S, not sure if I will have the install SQi ready for next weekend though Scott!
  16. SBN

mjmarovi replied to Bill Metts's topic in Sundown Audio
will be there, BR, Idbl, possibly SQi, and hopefully bass boxing, classes not yet determined (1st year) hopefully will let me in rookie3 class for Idbl.
  17. yeh, but it isn't gonna do chit to help your tuning and allow the woofer to actually play the low-end...
  18. that's all fine, but you cannot "re-direct" a port to "exit" a vehicle. you would then the making that part of the port therefore changing the tuning frequency. yes, most likely you will see an increase in SQ by facing the woofer down like you are describing, but only because all of the noise normally heard from the woofer is muffled by the floor, so yeh he's basically right on that part. Just kind of concerned on how port would "end up" going to the outside of the vehicle.
  19. I don't know, I mean the hole in the rear deck that the port opens at is already much larger than the port, and the installer I spoke with told me to seal that off, so I guess I really don't know what to do then...trial and error! lol please more replies if you have some input on the matter
  20. Alright, vehicle is a 99' infiniti i30, 4 door sedan, I have two 15" Q's on a crunch 3000d-pro. The enclosure is 7.2 cuft after port, and displacement, tuned to 32.5hz. It gets pretty loud, but kind of a empty not real full sounding bass. The enclosure is built into the trunk with the woofers mounted invertedly, so that the magnets are pointed toward the back of the backseat. the port is firing out of the top of the box through a hole in the rear deck. It sounds like there is a lot of cancellation, and when I open the trunk and crank the system it sounds way better and hits the lows way better. I understand this is some sort of phase issue I believe, and have had one person tell me to seal off the box from the cab, so that the woofers and port are in the same air space as the cab, and everything else in sealed into the trunk. Can anyone explain why this would happen, what causes this, and how to fix it? If I need to rip out the box and rebuild it a different way, I'm game, this thing will def. be in SBN, whether I have time to do finishing work or not lol. so basically, the box is port up through the rear deck, and subs mounted on side of box facing the front of the car. sorry for long post, just trying to give as much info as possible. thanks in advance and quick replies are much appreciated as time of the essence!
  21. if the woofer is still playing, it's still playin, everything still ok with the box?
  22. from installs I have seen that amp isn't everything its cracked up to be, as in it doesn't push all its power at all ohm loads and voltages like it says, and I know for a fact that bitch draws some some power, so not real sure it's the most efficient amp out there, expensive, of course, quality power, of course, but I think you could def. sell that amp and get one larger amp that will do more for you.
  23. nothing wrong with that amp, will push within 10% of its rated power, biggest thing is just not to get too gain happy and make it deliver a clipped signal. But plenty of clean power can come out of that amp to "push" a Q.

I hope this woofer comes out in the near future, would love to put four in my summer project
  25. yeh sundown audio is also on the SSA forums just go to manufacturer forums and go to sundown audio. Sundownz is Jacob Fuller, the owner of sundown audio, obviously a good resource. Jacob knows his stuff and is great to work with.
