The junior college started this program (as well as a PTAC program) in cooperation with the chemical plants and the nuke plant in the area a few years ago. As a result, there are a lot of senior employees teaching the technical courses. The first year of the nuke program, in order to entice students into the program, said nuke plant guaranteed employment to all future graduates of the program. Then people started graduating from the program and working out at the plant and it become apparent almost overnight that the guaranteed employment was a bad idea. A very, very, very, very, very, very bad idea. Said graduates (the majority of which attended/graduated from the same school district) were woefully unprepared for even the most basic of the junior college courses and graduated by the skin of their teeth. The senior employees/professors (a few are family friends of ours) got extremely pissed at the dumbassery. As a result, an asston of basic math and science courses are now required for completing the degree plan, since this school district apparently has not/is not preparing them properly
