With the amp powered on NOT playing music, (on pause) connect your DMM to the speaker leads at the amp, push on the cone of each sub 1 at a time and see if the ohm reading changes, I have heard of your problem before, an in that situation it was a short in the vc/ solder join on the terminal.

You should build a single 12 with that motor and let me try it in my single 12 test box

Obviously if those were the only options I would choose 2ohm, understand she will draw some current like that the more you crank the gain an volume so give her the power she needs and it should be fine, if you turn the volume up and it clicks off, into protect she aint liking it and you will have to go another route, its going to be more of trial and error.

It always sucks to hear about such a loss! The only thing you can do is accept, remember, and let time heal.
