  1. currently i have 2 12" boston acoustic g5 subs with 2 12" gtr passive radiators running off a mtx 1501D in the spare tire well firing up. im not satisfied with the spl and want something louder. im thinking about taking them out of the spare tire well and removing my rear strut bar and then make a box where the subs can fire towards the rear of the car or fire them towards the cabin since there is only a metal cross brass between the trunk and cabin (2003 mitsu evo 8). since i have the gtr radiators, im also considering firing my subs to the rear of the car and have the gtr radiators fire towards the cabin all in a sealed enclosure (shown in an example on boston's website) my options are either keep the boston 12s and get rid of or keep the radiators or go with ssa icon or fi car audio bl 10s ported. i will list 2 options in the poll for each as one will be for firing towards the cabin and the other will be firing towards the rear. btw, im also thinking about upgrading my amp if i get 2 10s, maybe a 2-3000 watt amp. currently, my bostons are overpowered since they only handle 450watts rms (if i listen to them at full volume the fuse eventually blows on the sub), i can turn it down if its recommended to keep the subs. im looking to create a really custom and unique trunk, install ideas would also be appreciated! here is what my set up looks like right now... http://public.fotki.com/twstdevo/evo/dscn0442.html http://public.fotki.com/twstdevo/evo/dscn0444.html ***if you choose "other" in the poll PLEASE post what you would recommend***
  2. bump! i decided to change my current set up with the boston subs next week. right now its 2 10" bl or icons ported. would this be better than say 1 12 ported or 1 15 ported if it can fit in my available space? also trying to decide how to do my trunk, want to make it look really custom but not sacrifice sound. so far its either facing the sub/s back or towards the cabin. between the trunk and the car there is just a metal cross brace. appreciate everyone's help as i need to finalize everything as soon as possible!
  3. well i am having blueprints for the box created by www.hexibase.com, im trying to get the loudest set up with 3cf or less space.
  4. Sundown Amps are extremely under rated i have a saz-3000d and at 1/2 ohm it puts out about 4200watts. the 3000d is 1/2 ohm stable i believe as well. ive heard the same thing about the amp, but i want to make sure i have the right electrical set up to run it. what are you using? finally, i think it might be best for me to go with either the 2 10" fi bl or ssa icons, i was considering 2 12" Si Mags (new ones comming out), but i was told to go with the 10s.
  5. im considering the bl as well. i know ported will have the best spl, but i have limited room. so its either 1 12 ported or 2 12 sealed with more power. im trying to see what would be louder in the amound of space that i have. with sealed i can run 1500watts to each but with one ported i can only run at most 1500 watts unless its 2 10s ported then i can probably do 1500watts to each. final option can be a sealed 15.
  6. im trying to stay with an enclosure that is 3cf or less and trying to decide whats better, 2 12s sealed with 3000watts (buy a new sundown 3000 amp) or 1 12 ported with 1500 watts (keep my mtx 1501d)? if the sealed subs would be louder, how much louder? last option is 2 10s ported. looking for LSQ, basically the loudest set up i can get with the space available. appreciate the help!
  7. 2 12s or 1 15 seems to be the right path, but 2 10s dont sound bad either unless it would be a big difference going to 12s. im thinking about upgrading my mtx 1501d to the sundown saz-3000, but not sure if i have the right electrical system for it. currently, i have a mini battery upfront, an optima yellowtop in the rear, 2 1 farad caps, and will be installing a 180amp iraggi alternator (oem is 90). my eclipse amp for mids and highs is 200watts, but thinking about upgrading to a sundown 100.2 if i decide to upgrade my mids/highs.
  8. how much are they going to weigh?
  9. it will be in the trunk of an evo 8. i really dont want to add a ton of weight, but i do want it to be loud, so its been hard to find a compromise between the two. i was told that if i use baltic birch for the sub enclosure, it weighs 20-30% less than mdf and is just as strong. i m also considering 2 12s if the box does not get too heavy and big. i got 35in wide and 15-16inches height to work with. i want the loudest possible set up, willing to upgrade my amp to something thats 2500-3000 watts if necessary. btw, im considering the new SI MAGs as well since they will work in small ported enclosures (1.5cf) and weigh less than most subs. what do you guys think would be best?
  10. what components would you recommend?
  11. how much do the 12's actually weigh?
  12. how much does the 12 weigh?
  13. my goal is to have a loud, clean, deep, hard hitting system and be able to power my subs to their potential. would the sundown 3000 be too much for my electrical system if i have another amp for mids and highs thats 2-300 watts? i would really like to keep my current optima battery. the battery i have looks like this: http://www.optimabatteries.com/truck_suv/find_your_optima/ if i cant find a sundown, what would be the next best choice?
  14. i plan on running 2 12" fi q or ssa icon subs in a 4cf ported enclosure tuned to 28hz. my car is running a minibattery upfront (to clear upper intercooler pipes), an optima yellowtop (extended battery, not standard), 2 1 farad caps, big 3 upgrade, and a 180amp iraggi alternator. the amp im currently using is a mtx 1501d (1500watts @ 1 ohm). here are my concerns: 1) would it be worth it to upgrade to an amp that is around 2500watts? 2) how many watts can my current electrical system handle? 3) will i be able to run an amp around 2500watts and another one for mids and highs around 200-300watts? 4) what amp would you guys recommend (looking to spend $800 or less)? so far im looking at the rf t2000, kicker 2500, or if subs and car can handle it: 2 sundown 1500s. appreciate the help!
  15. not sure how to go about stating preferences, i want nice, clear, crisp sound with a good midbass. mostly listen to rap/hip hop but want mids and highs that can keep up with my 12s whether i decide to power them at 1500watts or 2500watts. the amp i currently have for the mids and highs is the eclipse 3422, but willing to upgrade if necessary, hope this helps.
  16. looking to spend $450 or less. currently, im looking at the cdt audio es-62i or the re audio xxx components. i know these components sell for a lot more but there are places online that are offering deals on them. i have a 200watt eclipse amp (willing to upgrade if necessary). im looking for a set that will go well with 2 ported 12s (like fi q or icons) that will be either powered with 1500watts or 2500watts. i dont have any access to listen to different components so i have to decide from experiences people have online. if you recommend other components, please post them as well. appreciate the help!
  17. your telling me! lol
  18. More than we can hope to figure out over the Internet If people could know what's louder just by looking at it...there wouldn't be much need for SPL competitions anymore. i understand, but im sure there are some people that have experience with these set ups or been through atleast 2 of them. i have no access to hear any of these, so unfortunatly i have to rely on what i can research on the internet.
  19. what variables would there be? basically if they were all in the recommended boxes, 2.5cf ported tuned to 28hz for the 10s, 2cf tuned to 40hz for the dd9500, and 3-3.5cf tuned to 33hz for the 15. these would be going in a trunk of a car firing to the rear.
  20. would that be louder than 2 10s (icon) ported? or 1 12 dd 9500 ported?
  21. im looking for loud, clean, hard hitting bass. listen to rap/ hip hop and got up to 3cf to work with. im using an mtx 1501d (1500watts @ 1ohm). not sure if these three are on the same level, but from searching on the site seems like these might be what im looking for, now i just need to choose whats best. thinking about doing 2 10s ported or 1 12 ported, possibly a 15 but dont want to add too much weight. figure maybe 2 10 bl's or icons ported or 1 12 dd ported. which of the three would be loudest? any other subs better than these? what would you guys recommend in the space i have available?
  22. thanks scott, ive been anxiously waiting for a reply from you. i can definitely remove the rear strut brace as ive spoke with numerous autocross racers and suspension guys and they said in most cars the rear strut bar helps alot but in my car the way the suspension is set up there is not real difference. also, seats do not drop down. now for the subs set up: 1) would it make a big enough difference to change the way the subs face from up to firing back? 2) how would 2 12s (Q) sealed compare to 1 12 ported? 3) what about 2 10s ported, would you recommend that over others (2 12s sealed)? 4) whats the best enclosure for 2 ssd 12s ported? 5) what would be an optimal box for the type of music i listen to (rap/hip hop) for 2 10s ported ? 1 12 ported? 1 15 ported? all of them q or bl series. ive seen 2.2cf tuned to 32hz for 1 12 and 3.5 cf tuned to 32hz for 1 15, not sure about 10s. 6) would 2 12 q (or bl is possible) sealed be alot louder than my 2 12 boston g5? if you have further ideas, please post as im looking for a custom set up that does not take up the whole trunk but i can sacrifice a little past the wheel well arches. if it does not make a big enough difference changing the way the subs face, then i will keep the same set up. appreciate your help and looking to place an order as soon as you can let me know the best set up for my car.
  23. still looking for help, thinking about going 1 15 q or bl ported.
  24. eclipse 5510 deck, focal polyglass 6.5 components (thinking about replacing with cdt es-62i gold), focal 6.5 coaxals in the rear (going to remove), eclipse amp for mids (200watts), mini battery up front (so i can clear my upper intercooler pipe), optima extended yellow top in trunk (larger size battery), 1 farad cap, and i will soon be installing an irragi 180amp alternator.
  25. hi, im new to the forum and been looking through countless threads but cant come up with the best set up for myself. i would really appreciate everyone's help! i already got a system in my car but im not happy with the bass output (plus the subs are overpowered and keep going out). i mostly listen to rap/hip hop and want to be as loud as possible. currently, im running 2 boston acoustic g5 12s and 2 12" radiators off of a mtx 1501d. the enclosure is a custom install in my spare tire well which gives the 2 12s 1cf each, the radiators are separate. im thinking about replacing the 2 12s and the radiators with just 2 Q series 12s and i see that 1cf is enough but 1.3 is recommended, so i was thinking about adding some polyfill to get the extra airspace. would this set up be loud? if not, last option is to remove my rear strut bar and have a new box with the sub/s (ported if needed) facing the rear of the car (only if it would be a big enough difference from the spare tire location). i dont want to lose all of my trunk space but i am willing to lose some if it will be worth it. if i change my set up to this way (which i most likely will) im thinking about doing 1 12" Q ported, 2 12" Q's sealed, 1 12" BL Ported, or 1 15" Q sealed. what would be the best and loudest option(1500watt amp)? Looking for loud, clean, deep hard hitting bass! here is what my trunk looks like, there is about 35inches between the wheel wells and about 13-15inches in height. http://public.fotki.com/twstdevo/evo/dscn0442.html http://public.fotki.com/twstdevo/evo/dscn0444.html
