correct me if im wrong but it doesnt matter does it?? No, it doesn't. But it just seemed like in BigC's post he just said that the width of the port mattered, not the height. Unless I misread. But the port area is what matters, because how do you know which dimension is the width? What happens if you turn the box on its side? Does the other dimension become the width? Unless he's talking about round ports, in which case yes the width of the round port is what matters, but that's because the width is directly correlated with the area of the port opening since it's a circle.

Actually, it's the area of the port. If you have a slot port that's 10" x 5", how would the calculator know if the 10" or 5" is the width?
  3. I bought an amp from them, no problems.
  4. If you want to run all 3000 to the sub, it will blow. You can power the sub with that amp and never have any problems, but that's contingent on you being smart with the volume knob. Something gives me the feeling you'll want to push it hard, so I'd suggest buying something else.

Start with the recommended volume that the manufacturer suggests. Then I'd suggest giving each sub about 30 sq. inches of port, or 60 sq. inches total. You can make it two ports or one, doesn't really matter. From there the tuning depends entirely on the length of the port. I think around 32 hz should do fine. You can put them in a box program to get port dimensions. Just don't believe the SPL graphs.
  6. I really like the 7" Vifa MG mids (yellow cone) and Peerless 1" silk tweeters in my HT. But I don't know how you would listen to them before buying. But you may want to check their graphs on partsexpress (not sure if they still sell the vifa though) to see their off-axis response.
  7. If you have the larger alternator option, which I'm pretty sure you have, you'll be fine. I have a '98 Explorer with probably a similar or the same alternator and I've had a 1000 watt sub amp and two smaller amps for interior speakers and I never really saw the voltage drop. If you don't blast it at stoplights, which you shouldn't do, you should have no problems. As for suggestions on components, what is your budget? You can fit 6.5" components in the doors pretty easily if you make a mounting plate to convert the 6x8 to 6.5. What type of tweeter do you like?
  8. Just trim to fit. I understand that getting reducers looks better, but if your sub is mounted with the motor inside the box nobody will see it. And you'll get the same amount of contact between the wires and terminals either way.
  9. Sounds like you should just stick to 10s behind the seat. If you tell us what subs you have now and how much room and mounting depth you have, we may be able to come up with some alternatives that will yield better results than that frankenstein idea.

It is cool on here. It's just not cool to be a social menace.
  11. Ah you posted what I was going to say. That'll give you less airspace to pressurize as well, so it may make it louder. Otherwise you probably just need to mass load the trunk lid. Maybe glue some bricks to it, haha.

Maybe if he wasn't cheating on his wife three times a week it wouldn't have happened. But he was a good, hard-nosed, respectable football player. I thought he was good.
  13. I think a couple of my amps have failed due to that style of mounting. I don't do it anymore.
  14. I'm still partial to google.
  15. That is pretty silly and ghetto. I wouldn't want to ride with a sub box in the passenger seat.

You don't choose your class if you already have your equipment. You are put into a class depending on your equipment and setup in the vehicle. If you go to the comp they'll put you in a class.

I would suggest not using "2" in your job request or application.

Are you sure the box has no leaks? Take the sub out and inspect it also.

watch your ass at Arizona watering holes... Yeah I read that too. That sounds brilliant. I don't see a problem with this. Its still illegal to be intoxicated and carry, it doesn't mean someone is going to strap up and then go try to pick a fight in a bar. But now someone who carries can do so going to lunch in a place that serves alcohol and not have to leave the gun in the car/whatever or carry anyway. Is it still illegal to carry in places where liquor sales make up more than 50? percent profit though? Some states it is flat out illegal to carry anywhere that has a license to sell alcohol, doesn't matter the time of day. I didn't know about it being illegal to be intoxicated and carry. makes sense, I've just not been exposed to it. And you have to realize that not everybody is as good and disciplined with their concealed carry as you.
  21. That's plenty. There's no reason to overpower a sub by a thousand watts. You can still blow a sub without the signal being clipped.
  22. absolutely not. I wouldn't tune above 35 hz for daily listening. Personally I prefer 30 hz. And why are you using the bass boost after you just read the other thread about how worthless it is?

The gf got her 2001 Escape on Monday, I'll see it for the first time when I pick her up tomorrow. She says it has a leaky seal, probably crankshaft seal, otherwise runs good. something like 120k miles, $4k. She had to have an early model not only because of the budget but because it has to have the shifter on the column. Why anybody would think a column shifter is better than floor or console-mounted is beyond me. But a lot of her logic is.......different.

Time to pack for the camping trip. Supposed to be great weather, highs 80-85 and lows 60-65. Made out this huge list of stuff to take. I'm not totally confident it will all fit in the Explorer. In fact, I'm about 40% confident. I could just take my fishing pole, tackle box, and Rambo knife and say screw everything else. That stuff will fit for sure.
