  1. So just one coil on one of the subs is out? Does it just read 0 on the meter? If so, it's blown. It's caused by too much power.
  2. You may need some sound deadening to fix all of the rattles that will eventually happen with that combo.
  3. The old Phoenix Gold Bass Cubes had a subsonic on them as well, fixed @ 25 hz.
  4. It's both. Port area and length determine the tuning frequency of a given box. As for 1 vs. 2 ports, there is no difference. But 2 ports generally takes up a fraction more room for the same tuning frequency (port area the same between the 1 and 2 port setups)
  5. That's no good. A 110 amp alternator should be plenty to keep that amp and the air conditioner running without much of a dip at all. If both the battery and alternator are original, one or both may be on their way out. You may want to go to Autozone or somewhere and have them test the battery and alternator.
  6. Exactly. The CVX and SSD are similar in power handling capabilities, so we were trying to figure out why the CVX blew. If the prefab box that the CVX was in was horrible and tuned very high and you put the SSD in it, there is a decent chance that the SSD would blow. However, the CVX blowing may not have even been related to the bass boost that you put on it. If the bass boost is centered high, like 50-60 hz, and the sub blew because of overexcursion from music down at like 30 hz, the bass boost wouldn't affect it. The gain is simply too high and you would need a subsonic filter. We are knowledgable here. In fact, perhaps too much, because we're trying to go beyond your questions to get to the root of the problem. In your first post you asked about putting the SSD in the same prefab box. In that post you said nothing about the bass boost or anything about the box (which would have been greatly helpful in determining if the SSD would work well in it). We can't tell you how the SSD will perform in a box that we don't know the specs of. You got annoyed that we didn't respond to your questions, but at that point the only question was if we thought the SSD would work well. But again, didn't know the box specs. Then you come out and say that you want to annoy people at a red light, which doesn't fly here. Then you had two people answer your question about D1 vs D2, and you apparently ignored them and said final answer, should I get a D1 or D2. Then you had a third guy confirm D1 and you still didn't believe him. Then you get mad because we aren't answering your questions, yet people did answer your D1 to D2 question three times, and you still hadn't provided box information on the prefab you have to let us know how the SSD would work in it. If you don't give proper information in questions, there is no way anybody can tell you the answer. You said you'd build a box with your carpentry background, which was good, but then you got back on a prefab kick. Why oh why would you buy a shitty prefab when you can build your own better one with the skills you have for equal or less money? Finally, as M5 mentioned, there is no sealed recommendation for the 15" SSD. Buy a 12" and port it for better results.

I built a HT box for a 15" v2 mag. 5.5cuft at 25Hz. Words can not describe how happy I was with it. *I'm able to compare it to an Icon, Dayton HF, and a Paradigm PW2200. I'd take the Mag every time. (Just build larger and tune lower next time ) The box is also part of my apprehension about even trying it. It was built for my car, so it's 3.8 cubes @ 30 hz. Not sure it would do justice in the HT.

Had a dream last night that I cheated on my gf with an old friend. She found out and was crushed and we broke up. I woke up feeling like shit.
  9. Old topic, but apparently I missed this first time around. Well they definitely didn't do themselves any favors with that color. Why try to tone down such a beast with that wuss color? Doesn't make sense. They softened some of the lines from the previous years, which kinda sucks. I like the more rugged look that they had. As for 30k, I dunno, that seems ok to me. At least riding in my friend's '08 GT makes me think it's ok. But I haven't ridden in many 30k+ cars. The camaro coupes are sweet, but I think that the convertibles look stupid with the top down because the door gets shorter towards the back then raises over a higher wheel well. Reminiscent of some of the '70s cars, I know, but I don't like their look either.
  10. There's no limit on how big a wire could/should be. It doesn't hurt anything. 12 gauge speaker wire works fine.
  11. It doesn't work that way. There are enclosures that have massive ports and relatively small enclosure for the sub (like a horn), but they are definitely not smaller than a regular ported box. Besides, if you build a small box and want a large port, the port will eat up a ton more room than you think. The smaller the box, the longer the port has to be with the same port area and tuning frequency, thus taking up more space. So that's a backwards solution. Just go figure out what size box can fit in your trunk, or what you want to give up room for, and we'll go from there. Don't try to cut corners, it will turn out disappointing in the end.

Just got done fishing for a few hours in a lake that just opened a couple months ago after being closed for about 4 years. My friend and I caught a bunch of tiny bass and perch, probably 30 between us. None of the bass were over about 7" and 1/4 lb. We were like really, is this all that's in here? Where are your parents?
  13. Dang, wish I would have known this a year ago. My once-metallic red decal is turning into a sort of reddish-purple. Yuck.

Kinda want to hear what my SI Mag v.2 would sound like in my HT, but I don't have the motivation to drag the box downstairs and unhook the plate amp from inside my current HT sub box.
  15. Man, you need to be nicer to your equipment!

I know it says "Epsilon" on it, but down at the bottom under product summary it says- Manufacturer- PA. That's what I was going off of. If you want it, go for it. I guess it is only 35 bucks.
  17. If something was detached, you damaged the sub from overexcursion, likely because the tune on that prefab box is too high and a subsonic filter was not used or set properly. Have fun doing the same thing to your SSD if you put it in that box. Also, boosting the bass boost because your voltage is dropping is about the worst solution I've ever heard of. That's like dumping gasoline on a fire to try and put it out.
  18. Wow, if you're impressed with the output of a JL 10W0, wait until you get a pair of any of these subs in there.

Have you ever heard good things about Power Acoustik products from a reputable source? I haven't. I see they copied Rockford's sub line naming system. They also have P1, P2, P3s. I was looking at their other products on sonicelectronix and found reviews for the 15" FUBAR sub. "the only thing is that if you want to be heard from far away this is really the sub for you." "I rolled through down town Vancouver WA with these things cranked up and everyone on the street was starring at me. Some poor lady was walking on the side walk and had jumped as I rolled by; I think I scared her with these things." "For best results turn up loud and travel down town at two miles an hour or though residential areas with windows down late at night." And my most laughable favorite: "They are so good I will probably buy some more to destroy all."

And just the dumb questions lately. Jesus.
  21. huh? That cd player is twice the size of a normal cd player. If your vehicle doesn't have a double din opening for the radio, it won't fit.

Some food for the vegetarian thought: Earlier today I was watching a show on the History channel about Homo Sapien ancestry. Apparently research on our ancestors shows that the early ones were vegetarians and had brains about the size of apes today, or something like half our size. However, another of our ancestors that branched off from the vegetarians began eating meat and their brains grew to about the size ours are today. These meat eaters are our direct ancestors, while the branch of vegetarians died off about a million years ago. Meat eating can be inferred to be the reason homo sapiens are as smart as we are today. Go meat!

And also, what is it with the rash of young morons coming in saying they want to annoy everybody at red lights, in the middle of the night, from 78 miles away, etc., today? *chic* *chic* *boom*
  24. DON'T BE THAT GUY.
  25. It still needs the same size box in net volume. It's just that if you need 1.5 cubes, with the sub inverted you build the internal space to 1.5 cubes, but if you have the motor inside you build the box to 1.6 cubes or whatever. You just have to account for the space that the motor will take up so that after that displacement the sub still has the desired airspace. Also, you have to remember that speakers move both in and out. They aren't single directional. So even though a sub appears to only move out when you look at it, it is in fact moving both directions equally. There is a wave coming off the front of the cone and a corresponding, equal wave coming off the back of the cone. In a sealed box one of the waves basically becomes trapped in the enclosure. It doesn't matter if it's the front wave or the back wave since they are equal.
