  1. Generally you want a sub that has an even frequency response and doesn't color the sound either by distortion or tonal inaccuracy. Most (if not all I've seen) subs that can handle 3000 watts were made for SPL, because SPLers want subs that can handle big power. So the manufacturers sway some specs to give the sub higher efficiency. They give the sub a huge coil to be able to soak up the power and give the sub a lot of motor force. They also generally raise the fs, which gives the sub more sensitivity but generally worsens the even frequency response I was mentioning. The subs have lower qts and like to play in ported boxes. If you go into an SQ competition most competitors will have one sub in a sealed box, powered by maybe 500 watts.
  2. you haven't even finished the wall and you're already thinking of a change of setup? Why didn't you just get the BTLs to start with? and what kind of "leap" are you looking for? Perhaps you should finish this install and see if it meets your needs first. At least you'd get a better idea of what you'd want different.

    Just to piss you off.

Yep, this could be you: You're a bit young, though.

that's what always pisses me off. 95% of the time I'd say ok, you have permission to do whatever. but they just have to ASK. If they do it without asking it's like they aren't considerate of you at all, and it's just disrespectful.
  6. An SQ sub that can handle 3000 watts. Well, good luck. But I haven't heard any subs you've listed, so I'm no help.

There's a BYOB strip club here. I've never seen that anywhere else. But then again I don't go to strip clubs. Definition of strip club is funny where you live. Topless only and they have to put latex skin over their nipples. Sort of defeats the whole purpose if you ask me You mean in Kansas? the one I was talking about is just outside Lawrence and they have full nudity. I've been to it once. Hmm, maybe it was MO then. My buddy lived nearly right in Z middle. Maybe. ahh Misery, land of porn shops and fireworks. At least that's all you'd think was there by driving down the highways through it and the billboards posted. But then you drive off the highway and you discover they have hill billys, too! Which may explain all the porn and fireworks......
  8. You need to add the displacement to that figure. What sub is it? You don't need to be exact with the box volume. If you overcompensate for what the sub will take up and make it .8 cubes instead of .75 after displacement, it won't matter. You'll never be able to hear the difference. I'd say most 10's have about .1 cube displacement, 12's- .15. That's close enough.

It can handle more power with the BP option, but it doesn't need more.

my gf's roommates are such bitches. They're so rude and cheap it's unbelievable. I can't wait for her to move out in May. I'm sure she can't either. I'm going to spit on their floor the last time I walk out.

wtf, i've had this sneezing and runny nose thing for a week. I thought maybe it was the new cat, but I've taken allergy meds that don't seem to work and it doesn't always happen when she's around. Then my gf got something like it but she doesn't sneeze, just stuffy nose all week. I haven't had a cold in years and I guess this one is set to make up for lost time. it's so annoying. I'm getting ready to cut my nose off.

oh and I went back to the eye doctor on Friday for a checkup to see how the new contacts were working out. This time I got to leave my contacts in and see the optometrist clearly. Not only was she still very good looking, but she has a very nice set of breastasis as well. and a wedding ring. darn.

Big KU game against Missouri today. But it's in Lawrence so there shouldn't be any of that lucky junk like they pulled in Columbia a few weeks ago.

I don't understand why you're so worried about weight. If you're getting two fifteens anyway, a crappy 15 may weigh 10 pounds but the IB3 may weigh 40. You'll never notice the extra 60 pounds. That's less than a passenger. And with a bar and a bed in there that probably weigh 150 pounds...????

Very weird. Unless they thought you were producing these watches just for sale on ebay?

    Hello
  20. This is where it gets tricky. Take the example of both of them being at 80hz/24dB. It'll still be at 80hz/24dB. If one is set to 160hz/24dB and the other is 80hz/24dB however, the point of the 160hz point will overlap the 80hz one. Which effectively makes the 80hz point useless. It doesn't combine. hmm. Maybe it's different than I think. How is it determined which one is used in the 80 hz and 160 hz example?
  21. So the port comes up the inside of the box then rotates 90 degrees and fires out the front? I don't know that you'd want to do that because your port may act differently than you predict. But I guess you can try it.

    wat is ac ?
  23. the crossover reduces the signal by an amount so if the amp is getting a signal that is already reduces it will be further reduced from the original. but it doesnt just drop off from 80hz if it is set at 80hz. if you have a 12db cross over its 12db down from an octave away. there for 40hz would be 0db down 60hz 6db down 80hz 12db if you set the other crossover at 160hz odb would be at 80hz but 80 is already 12db down 160hz would be 24db down from the first crossover plus 18db or whatever the second crossover is, making 160hz 42db down from the original signal I think the slopes do add together because the second crossover (amp) doesn't know that the first crossover is there (head unit). I think it still just crosses it over as it would without the first one there. I think this only works with active crossovers. Passive crossovers vary because the capacitors and inductors would interact with each other differently whether you wired the crossovers in series or parallel (just like dual voice coils). Your crossover points would shift. http://www.bcae1.com/ on page 54 shows the passive crossover stuff. I may be wrong on active though. hmm. The more I think about it the less sure I am. haha. However, dbjunior, I think you're incorrect on the specifics of the crossover slope. In your example, if a 12db crossover is set at 80 hz, it doesn't start reducing the signal from one octave down, 40 hz. The crossover point is the -3db point. So 80 hz would be -3db. But then 160 hz would be 12 db down, 320 hz 24 db down, etc. Where the crossover begins reducing the signal varies depending on the crossover slope. Page 27 of bcae1.com shows a graph with different crossover slopes in it.

hmm, it's snowing. We have about an inch right now, maybe a bit more. This is wild. I was driving around with my windows down on wednesday and thursday, and by the forecast, will be doing it again by Tuesday of this week. Winter just had to get one last thrust in I guess.
