if your box is tuned to 32 hz, 25 hz on the subsonic should work. Have to remember that the crossover point isn't the point at which the level starts to decline, it's already the -3db level. As for the box facing debate, I just say try it. In my old car I had a large box like that and I tested both ways and decided on front firing. Another guy with a car like mine who competed said he was in the same boat and found that front firing yielded higher on the mic for him. I never got mind metered. It sounded basically the same, but there may have been a hint more with it front firing.

I don't like Alltell, why not switch to Verizon? I've always had good luck with them, and my LG phone lasts 4-5 days on a charge and it's.......3+ years old. Try turning your box around and firing it into the cabin. In that case it would be even better if you could seal off the trunk behind the front baffle with some extra wood or the like. The box may be acting as a barrier in itself for the sound because it's so large.

What amplifier is it? Assuming it's 2 ohm stable in stereo, you could wire your two rear speakers in parallel and hook them up to one channel, then run your two front speakers in series and wire them to the other channel. That's a very crazy way to do things, but.....it'll work. Head units don't like to be bridged or run below 4 ohms per channel.

The RMS alone has no bearing on how loud a sub will be. Hypothetically, if you have a 150 watt RMS speaker which was 91 db efficient and put 150 watts on it and a 300 watt RMS speaker that was 87 db efficient and put 300 watts on it, which would be louder? Comp's are 89 dB efficient and 20 mm of xmax, and CompVR's are 86 dB efficient and 26 mm of xmax. They are built to be a better woofer, that is enclosure and install dependent, but theoretically a better woofer. xmax is just like the RMS number. It has little bearing on how loud a sub will be. Look at PA woofers. They have maybe 4 mm of xmax. Yeah they can't normally dig as low, but in the 45-80 hz range they're crazy loud. They also typically have efficiencies of 95+ db. I wasn't trying to say that his new setup wouldn't be louder. I'm just saying be careful about thinking every sub with a higher RMS rating (or xmax) will be louder than what you have. Typically larger subs (in terms of motor size for power handling) are less efficient. I don't know about these two subs, I haven't looked them up. I'm just saying in general. But you also hinted to it. You said Comps (150 RMS) are 89 db efficient and the comp vr's are 86 db efficient. That means you'll likely have to dump twice as much power into it to make them just as loud as the comps. Efficiency isn't the ONLY number to look at, either, but it will give you a better idea than xmax or RMS ratings ever will (provided the numbers are measured in the same way).

went ice skating for the first time yesterday, it was pretty fun. And surprisingly, I didn't fall once in the 1+ hour we were out there. I rollerbladed for about one month when I was a kid before I grew out of the skates, and I think that helped. Then the gf drug me to a dance show-thing. People doing modern dance on stage. That was some of the weirdest, most awkward dancing I have ever seen. it was just so strange, I don't understand what would motivate somebody to move so awkwardly and call it dance.

plus we can't tell you where to set your gain. That depends on your head unit voltage on the volume you turn it up to. No way we could know that from here. The crossover (frequency) also depends on things on your end, such as how good your front mids are and how your sub sounds at the frequencies. Some subs don't sound good above 60 hz in certain boxes, some can go up to 80-100 hz if you need them to because your mids are lacking. so it all depends.

I use the hole + sealant technique and have never had a problem. Bolts work too, but you just have to make sure that nothing might drop on them, get pushed up on them, etc., that might make a connection between the two.

What sub do you have, what box is it in, and where is the crossover set?

They both use XBL^2 motor topology, but that's about where the similarities end. That's all I can say though. I'm sure they're pretty different subs.

Having windows rolled down reduces cancellation within the cabin, making the system louder. As BKOLFO4 said, 99% of vehicles will behave this way. It's usually only when most systems get above 155-160 db and into heavily modified vehicles does this change. There is a point in which a transition occurs between stopping cancellation with the windows down and losing extremely high pressure because the windows are down. This phenomenon is well documented, just ask anybody who has competed in an outlaw competition. It has little to do with box design.

I'm pretty sure he didn't actually test it in a ported box, though. He's just saying what happens when you put it into a ported box (hypothetically). If he had actually put it into a ported box I think we would have seen a longer review detailing why it was bad in more aspects than just power handling.

Be careful with this. smaller boxes lose efficiency. So while raising tuning is good, lowering box volume is not. To give a reference, I had four 12's in a sealed box a few years ago. I tried porting that box to maybe get a higher score, and I scored the exact same. 4 cubes sealed scored the same as 4 cubes and about a 42 hz tune. Also, try duct tape. It works!

Yes there are a number of new members that think or feel that is what they need to do, but it is not the main chunk of traffic. Oh I agree that it isn't a big volume of people, but it's just one of those things that sticks with you even if only one or two people say it. It gets etched into my mind.
