Welcome to the IHoP
save up your money and spend it in the spring on car audio thats what im doing!! ehh money isn't an issue. Neither is car audio. I'm happy with what I have and have absolutely no plans to buy anything. I think I've bought one thing in the last 4 years, and that was a sub. But it was only in my car for about 8 months before I put my old sub setup back in. Car audio just isn't very high on the list when you're saving up to buy a house.

Mmmm..split coils.
Can be either two motors or just split coil within one motor. But the voice coils are much smaller if in only one motor. My guess is something similar to the supergauss?

Am i wrong here?
I think too many people on here are focused on the power, and just keep bringing it up. Forget about the power- clean, dirty, or whatever. From a purely power standpoint, going from 20 watts RMS from a good head unit to a 50 watt RMS amp (on 50 watt speakers) is nearly negligible. Maybe about 4 db difference. And before you say that's a lot, it isn't that much in reality. Probably two notches on your volume knob. I have heard a fairly decent sounding and loud pair of coaxials with only head unit power. In fact it surprised me quite a bit. However, it still could have been better. What M5 said in his last post is really all that you need to worry about. The sound has more to do with the signal coming off of the CD or whatever than the amplifier. To make an analogy, ask any serious home theater guy and he'll tell you that for the best sound you need a preamp and dedicated amplifiers. Why? Because things get compromised when you do an all-in-one receiver. Same thing with head units. There is a reason Eclipse and some other head unit manufacturers make unamplified head units. To get the best sound you need to dedicate things. However this situation is a bit tricky. I've had cheap head units that sounded terrible, even though I wasn't using the on board amplifier. When I switched it out for a new head unit (also with built in amplifier that I didn't use) there was a very clear difference in sound. But if his head unit does not have highpass crossovers for the mids, he is doing a disservice to them. He needs to either get a head unit with crossovers if he wants to continue using deck power or buy an external amp. In this case, why not get an external amp. Not only would he get crossovers, but extra power to boot.

ugh it needs to be warmer so that I can run outside. It's 47*, perhaps warm enough to run. I hate treadmills and pretty much refuse to run on them. What am I going to do for cardio all winter?

Welcome to the IHoP
Well I'm finally back. Flew to Minneapolis last Friday morning, helped my bro and sis-in-law pack the moving truck (man did everything BARELY fit, as it always does, right?), drove 18 hours to Fort Collins on Saturday, unloaded at 2am that night in 25*. My brother is a slave driver. But actually it wasn't that bad, and I was more awake after moving it all in at 3am than I had been all day. Sunday flew back from Denver to KC. Then Monday morning had to drive 5 hours to BFE in south central/west KS to do some drilling for work. Stayed there until yesterday and drove back home last night. Man it gets boring in a one horse town in a hotel room by yourself. But I have today off because of the long days we put in. It misted on us all tuesday and wednesday, and was only about 40-45* all day. Luckily it was just barely warm enough and not rainy enough to not be miserable. Standing outside all day in rain and cold can be the worst. I was wearing three shirts under my jacket plus shorts under my jeans. But then yesterday it got real nice and halfway through the morning I could even take off my jacket and just be in my one tshirt. It was about 55-60*. That was a nice way to end it. We passed a cow in the ditch just outside the town on the way down there on Monday, and she was still in the ditch when we came back on Thursday. What a terrible farmer. Doesn't even check on his cows in three days? Hopefully she doesn't dehydrate or get hit by a car at night or something.

TMNT? teenage mutant ninja turtles. Sean I can't believe you don't know TMNT! Awesome show and movies. There are those shows you watch as a kid that look totally retarded when you grow up, but TMNT isn't one of them. I think I could watch it when I'm 60.

displacement issue.. maybe some bad algebra too
What do you mean by "round is 55% more efficient than slotted?"
-
maybe this is a noob question....
You just have to wire the remote to the correct wire behind the head unit. I take it you didn't wire your sub amp to the head unit's remote output? You should. Same with the comps amp.

hahaha oh boy. In my training today they told us logging is like the second most dangerous occupation, aside from commercial fishing. But shoot I bet most of that is because of the saw. Eliminate that and it's probably the safest job!

BL 15 Enclosure help!
A full 2000 watts is too much for a BL, but you can dial back the gain to appropriate power levels for the sub. You say port width 4", I assume that's a 4" wide by 16.5" tall port? And then it's total 32" long. I get about 4 cubes net tuned to 34 hz. If you want 32 hz, extend the port about 6 more inches along the back wall, from 16 to 22" for that piece.

no output to speakers
Try hooking up some other source to the amp, like an mp3 player or something. Or since you have a DMM you could just measure the voltage coming down the RCAs, if there is any.

about how many dbs?
Oh, no no no no no

Kicker ZX 2500.1 HELP
Turn the bass boost off and reset the gain. You probably have the boost frequencies boosted so much that they make the amp clip long before it's even at RMS power in other frequencies.

Welcome to the IHoP
My front output shaft has been leaky for quite a while by the looks of it. Not a big leak and definately didn't notice a lot of missing fluid in the t-case when I changed the atf. Did you look up some explorer forums ? I'm not familiar with how the layout under it but it could be a very simple diy job to replace the output seals. Easy job on the Jeep. Yeah that was my next step. I'm a member on a couple of them, though I haven't visited them in quite a while. From the looks of it, it should be a fairly simple jerb. There's just a skid plate protecting the underside of the TC, just gotta pop that off and it's full access.

Dude, forget about the lights. That has absolutely nothing to do with setting the gain. Listen for the sub stressing when you set the gain. Then you need to back it off a little.
