Agreed. To me, the Fs and VAS of the Nightshade rule it out fairly easily. It works fine in a car because you have cabin gain down low, but you won't have that in a home theater. I don't think it'll sound good in a box tuned to 20 hz. Exactly what do you want to gain? Sub-20 hz output? Does that amp have a subsonic filter on it, and if so, are you using it?

You won't be able to run double midbasses on that passive crossover. Assuming you'd wire the midbasses in each door in parallel, that'll give you a 2 ohm load. That will not keep the crossover point the same on the crossover. If I remember correctly, a halving of impedance also halves the crossover frequency. so instead of the midbasses being highpassed at 500 hz with those crossovers, they will be at 250 hz. The mid and tweeter will still be the same since they'll just still be 4 ohms. So you'll have a gap between 250 and 500 hz in your frequency response. My suggestion would be to just get a 2 way passive for the mid and tweet and have them on their own 2 channel amp. That way you can highpass the mids with the amp at 500 hz or so. Then get a separate amp for the midbasses, something with the capability to bandpass them. (normally done with a 2 channel amp that has both lowpass and subsonic crossovers).

Not a bad deal, but I don't think the RE series were over about $100 when they first came out. not sure on the amp. I imagine it was about the same price it is on the receipt (I assume it's the 169 figure). It's a decent enough brand though.

ok, so your box is 3.92 cubes gross. minus about .12 for sub to make it easy, 3.8. If you use two 4" aero ports and make them 14.5" long each, you'll end up with a 3.6 cubic foot box tuned to 33 hz. You could also use a single 6" aeroport that's 15.25" long and have basically the same box. That would save you on cost of an extra port and cutting another hole out of your baffle.

So do you run the postive to the negative on the same coil. Or do you run the Positive on the right coil to the Negative on the left side? opposite coils. It would do no good to run positive to negative on the same coil, that would just short the coil and no power would go to it.

I think you are using the wrong calculations. That 65 sq. inches is actually cubic inches, as in the volume of the port, correct? That's not what you want to look at. You want the area of the actual port opening. So in your case you have a 4" round port, and the area of a circle is pi*r^2. With a 4" port that gives you around 12.56 sq. inches.

What size does the manufacturer recommend? I've never seen an 18" recommended for less than 5 cubes per sub.

I don't think you'd want the port in front of the sub.

I'd suggest wiring to 2 ohms and using a 2 ohm-maximized amp.

I would say you'd want a minimum of 35 sq. inches in a slot style port. If you're using aero ports, you could probably get away with two 4 inchers.

Electrical tape. Or just unplug the LED. Your method is faster, mine is permanent. As for the storms, *jealous* I love electrical storms. Well those seem like 3rd grade answers that I should have come up with myself. I did put tape over the power button which had the light seemingly brightest through it, but I used masking tape one night because that's all I could find when I was half asleep. I used like 8 layers and it still didn't block it out. I know I have some electrical tape around here if I get lazy and don't want to take the case off to unplug the thing.

You want the fans blowing parallel down the cooling fins. For most amps this would mean having the fans on the ends with the connections. You want one fan to push the air over the amp, the other to pull it from the amp and push it away on the other side.

Any amp that gets hot. It's just that sub amps generally have much more power running through them, so that is more potential for heat.
