  1. I have had both subs in my install and built several enclosures for each the W7 and Xcon are two totally different subs..... the Xcon will take way more power and hits a bit harder.. the W7 is smoother sounding and can peak at a much lower frequency than the Xcon for abuse and hard hitting I give it to the Xcon but for SQ I would give it to the W7 ..personally I use the Xcon because of the bonus power handling and impact
  2. the amplifier has nothing to do with the quality of a recording.. but...all amplifiers are NOT created equal...I have heard some well built class D that sound better than some poorly built class A/B..and I have heard some class A/B that eat even the best class D BTW... I am half deaf with tenitus and I can tell the difference on the first note between a good and crap amp but that's a totally different topic...LOL
  3. I think we will go with vinyl on them...white to match the port and trim on the woofer enclosure almost got both of them ready to cover
  4. I play very few MP3 recordings in my system....most MP3 files sound really tinny ,hollow or metallic with very limited detail difference between some instruments..I find alot of MP3's really hard to listen to at the same time I do get the odd store bought CD that sounds like it was recorded in someones a spare bedroom.....
  5. the window handles just made it more challenging...LOL I'll continue tomorrow
  6. a bit of sanding/shaping ..... a notch for the window handle and some more shaping to smooth things out
  7. I see some ZCONAGE in my substage rebuild.......
  8. I will probably take on a couple orders in the future but I will be really buisy over the next couple months training for welding natural gas pipe (preasure ticket)
  9. damn dude....why did you have to show me that sub ???? a pair of those would go nicely on my Crown reactor...hehehe there is something about being able to see the woofer cone to....I like the old dustcaps better
  10. remember the octive slope( 6db,12db,18db or 24db) on the SSF varies on different amps.. if you need the protection of a SSF you don't need to set it any higher than the 20 to 22hz range to eliminate the high excursion notes personally a SSF always gets in my way of nice deep ripps right down to 10hz and head bopping bass guitar strings..
  11. one of the installs I have worked on has a pair of 15" Xcons running off of 6500w rms daily... take in mind the gains are set correctly, the amp is getting enough juice and the box is bang on I would not recommend this to every Joe on the street ..the operator has to know when enough is enough ( most don"t ).....I would recommend running a pair of Xcons for warranty and pocketbook purposes the only sub I have ever used that can take 3KW all day long is the Orion HCCA ...I could not blow that thing with my big JBL/Crown gti amp...pulled a 147db with a single 12" in a chevy xcab...LOL
  12. awsome.... looking forward to some test results from what I know about you go for another two icons....... I want to replicate the sound I had with my four 10" Icons...that was just awsome
  13. Welcome back... I'm not away from building permanently .....got some new Idea's brewing
  14. I beleive you are one of the refunds.....once I am financially cought up enough all 3 of them will be issued (yours included)
  15. actually I am working 6 days a week putting pipeline in the ground so I'll pretty much be un available untill it snows... I do have alot of e mails to go thru......I scan the forums for a couple min after work and by the time I'm done showering, eating and spend 5 min with the wife and kids it"s time to go to bed......5:30am comes REALLY fast...LOL
  16. finally got a few spare minutes to work on the doors.......everything fits in place now for some layers of fiberglass and some cosmetic shaping
  17. the Icon is an excellent sounding woofer...it is in the top 2 of my all time favorite drivers awwwwwwsome low end extension
  18. so I finally got going on Glenns door pods.....
  19. use sandpaper when needed and be very carefull when painting.......
  20. thanx but unfortunately I'm not ready to start taking any orders yet...
  21. I really like the Icon 10"..... that quad set up I had really mentally distrubed alot of people that had systems with much more cone area...LMAO
  22. thanx... I'll be finishing up a few loose ends like the door pods for the Dakota and a couple refunds then I will be stripping the Windstar for proper sound deadening and re doing my sub stage .... still sticking with SSA subs but I'm leaning towards six or eight Icon 10" to run off the Crown A3000gti....... will be back soon with more pics of the Dakota build
  23. well I'm back up... still about 20 pounds under weight but I'm alive have passed in the excess of 50 kidney stones this year alone plus tubes shoved into every orphise I got plus a few the doctors cut open themselves and lost a total of 40 pounds over the process I'v been home for about a week and I'm being avalanched on 8 months of bills and also four debts to customers who's enclosures I half built or sitting on a blueprint... anyways.....I am now back to work to catch up financially... once the major important bills are paid off ( like rent) I will e refunding the four enclosure customers I still owe there was no internet for most of my hospital or recovery time and no way to provide any income for any reason ...bills or debt maybee even build a few projects and make build logs this winter
  24. Phoenix has a great housing market Come on down! and i'm not joking! I'v been thinking about it ever since our last phone conversation
  25. I'm hoping for a fast recovery I will no longer be shipping enclosures out of Canada to the US when I return... with the Canadian material prices , high shipping prices and high living expenses as well as trying to compete with the US Builders prices it is no longer financially worth it for my family to continue so I am throwing in the towel.......
