  1. X'D Any recommendations for brands to seek out and audition? Never owned any pa style drivers before, unless my horns count.
  2. Music to my... Err... Wallet =]
  3. If I frequently have passengers, would a set of silver flutes in the rear doors be beneficial or can I focus on beefy front doors and still have it sound clean in the rear? I know my blazer doors were inaudible from the front lol I'd have my rears on a switch for when I'm riding alone.
  4. Knew someone would say it lollll
  5. I thought this would be an excellent opportunity to try my hand at an SQ build with a little beef on the low end . I'll probably return to the dark side eventually, but truthfully my older brother had three Memphis twelves sealed when I was back in highschool and it was one of my favorite sounding systems to date. It dropped low with authority, great on it all, and got plenty loud for a daily. With triple the power he had on subs, i'm sure it'll make me happy for quite some time. With the price of the mags, I'm sold really.
  6. Just scooped a '98 Mountaineer this morning. Has the 5.0, it's AWD; feels good to be off the shoelace express Plans are a singer 240a, some royal excelene, a juicebox 20ah under the hood, Three SI mag v3 12's sealed (amp undecided), silver flute 8's in the doors, and hlcd's under the dash on a PPI 900.4. Doors first, but intend to fully dampen the cabin, mlv, ccf, cld, and foam. Want to sniff out an 80prs and snag a minidsp also. I'm so geeked.
  7. I'd almost say sealed with a DUMBASS amount of cone area
  8. I think a good place to start would be some deadening, some baffles and some component auditions. Try to avoid pro audio speakers to start, I don't think most people who use them chose them for the right reasons.
  9. Happy birfday mang =]
  10. Different brands and different lines of speakers are kind of like different flavors. Can you audition some locally to see what suits you?
  11. I can't believe they took your truck..... Not even close. Glad to hear things are evening out again.
  12. I'm rollin, your comment was the first thing I've read this morning roflNah, it's purely cosmetics and personal preference. I've always been a sucker for those triple twelve angled sealed boxes, but other than that, I like evens.
  13. One woofer in a proper enclosure can sound much better than two shoehorned into one that's too small.
  14. Mass is what will help control rattles like that, so I'm guessing roll on would be far easier
  15. A pair of SSA Gcon 15's =]
  16. It was already phrased properly by ///M5. Hate to say it but maybe you don't know how to set one or think your way is correct. There is nothing wrong with learning something new everyday.*sigh* K
  17. Someone please just phrase it properly for OP. I know how to set a gain but, clearly don't know how to put it into words -.-
  18. Yikes. You got one part right. The clipping light is most likely useless. The rest, no. Ok, the part about the ear sure. Use it, when it starts to sound worse/stressed/wrong you went too far. I've had amps do both, I just don't go past where it stops getting louder. It's the same stopping point, too much past that point is distortion.
  19. Don't trust a clip light. Scope it, or set it by ear. When you turn up the gain and it doesn't get louder *or sounds harsh and odd*, that's clipping. Back it down til it's clean again, and you're good to go.
  20. You're supposed to set the gain with the knob turned all the way up.
  21. Happy birfday mang =]
  22. I have 3 way towers that are a ten, a five and a horn, but whether it's these specific one, or the size of my room, being so close to them, I feel like I can tell which speaker is playing what frequency, instead of just a point source. I also made the mistake of premade crossovers as a cheap solution to blown crossovers in these when I got em.I feel totally fucked since I am quickly falling in love with true SQ AND I like it loud occasionally. Yall can be flat out honest with me lol, high end is a new game to me. I'm from the land of dumpster diving, garage sales, speaker backpacks and bikes. I've got a long way to go. iirc your towers are jacked up. poor separation could be attributed to a number of things. how close we talking? when i hear near field i'm thinking computer desk I will measure them as soon as I scrape my noodles off the stove lol.8'6" from speaker to where my head is at listening position. L/R are symmetrically placed. Woofer is next to the right speakers. Horns at ear level, along with mids. Midbass is slightly lower.
