  1. I have 3 way towers that are a ten, a five and a horn, but whether it's these specific one, or the size of my room, being so close to them, I feel like I can tell which speaker is playing what frequency, instead of just a point source. I also made the mistake of premade crossovers as a cheap solution to blown crossovers in these when I got em.I feel totally fucked since I am quickly falling in love with true SQ AND I like it loud occasionally. Yall can be flat out honest with me lol, high end is a new game to me. I'm from the land of dumpster diving, garage sales, speaker backpacks and bikes. I've got a long way to go.
  2. Nope, it's quarter inch and xlr's I wanna say, I'm rusty on pro audio terms. I'm a huge 2.1/2.2 fan.
  3. Strong midbass that I can feel in my chest at high volume, precise imaging, I want to be able to close me eyes and say the drummer is to my left. I'd like something extremely capable in terms of SQ, but it needs to be able to get up and go when I get slutty with the bass knob. I want speakers that play flat down to where I cross the woofer, which currently is 50hz. I want to be able to bang Young Jeezy, Slim Thug, some Trae, the turn around and get lost in Dark Side of the Moon, or Kind Of Blue. Subtle nuances in classical, etcetera.
  4. I mean, I have a 52" tv which is probably as big as I'd go in here, so duh no reason right now. I mean Near field as in small room, am I misusing the term? As you know, I've been looking for new speakers, and since these JBL's have their own amp, I'd just like a nice piece to control them, don't like the source to be the only volume control. Only reason the projector is even a consideration is because the depth of my tv is upsetting in this room, but I suppose a pawnshop flat panel would be way cheaper. Gonna come out and say I've never owned, nor shopped for a preamp before.
  5. Edit That setup is long gone, but I do have a question at the bottom of this thread! To celebrate a new job, i'm going to splurge on a new set of speakers, preamp, wires, some sleeving to hide it all, etc. I'm pretty sure I know what I'd like to get, especially the bookshelf speakers, as I've heard a pair in person and absolutely loved them. The tweeters especially, light airy crisp, but on to the list. What do you guys think? Once I decide on all this, I'm going to rebuild the box for the BTL to be a little more solid, but for now it's getting bedlinered and spiked. The speakers: JBL LSR308's http://www.parts-express.com/jbl-lsr308-3-series-8-2-way-powered-studio-monitor--245-8124 The Preamp: Acurus RL-11 http://www.audioreview.com/cat/amplification/preamplifiers/acurus/rl-11/prd_118140_1591crx.aspx New subwoofer amp: Beringher EP4000 http://www.parts-express.com/behringer-ep4000-europower-power-amplifier-2-x-1400w--248-748 The rest is all miscellaneous stuff, i'm sure you've seen wire ties and wire conduits lol but it'll make a big difference in how everything looks. I also want to get a projector, but my rear projection is still sluggin along so ill wait on that. I was shopping for used speakers, but between some very beat up sets and only few to choose from locally, i'm okay with spending what I would on the JBL's after giving them a good long listen. Everything I threw at them came out great, or better. Am I forgetting anything? I just got home from my final interview so I'm super wired Been a year since I've had work.
  6. It isn't about getting low. 8's are just a rather dumb size for a sub-woofer. There are very few good reasons to use one and the OP doesn't have any of those.Only 8" sub I've actually owned was the samsung Ht in a box 5.1 system that had a ported 8. I just lost the drive to try smaller woofers after picking up towers with 10" mids. My head just couldn't fit around mids > woofer. Niche market?
  7. Lol if money weren't an object I'd build a car every six months, reckless style. When space is an issue, I think it's fun to go with a sleeper build. A single 12, or 15 on a heap of power.
  8. If I'm patient with it I'm sure I can pop the current bracing out with a razor and chisel, however I'd be limited to what I can angle in through the cutout, or whatever I can assemble inside the box. I could rebaffle it, but if I'm going to cut it up I might as well do it all over and make it gorgeous. Adding a baffle to this behemoth would further encroach on my tiny room o.o What I think I'll do for now if that's a fools errand, is wait a few months and see how bad this one gets beat apart, and if it weakens noticeably, I'll recone to a 12, grab the ep2500, and rebuild. I'll see what I can do about a lattice type brace like what you posted, that's fuckin sick. It is truly a pity that boxes with bracing like that rarely have plexi to show it off. Edit: the EP2500 and the EP4000 are the same amp?
  9. To get low low you'll want more surface area than a pair of eights, it'll just make the whole process so much easier on you. Icon 12" would be nice
  10. Been over a year since I turned the box around, maybe I'm due for another try. I've posted my frustrations on this vehicle in the past. Wasn't much help. I'm convinced it's the vehicle. Had a single 12" ICON in there and it was total ass. Turn around stick same sub and box in my buddy's car and omg. Sub is amazing! Sounded louder and cleaner than his existing Fi Q 12". Back into my trunk and it's garbage. Lol. Enough complaining. Good luck with your install buddy. Hope you get better results than meWhat about a low power SQ install instead, with like a pair of IB15's or IB 18 and just go for displacement? Haven't worked on that car before so I don't have an idea of the deadness
  11. If I wasn't so nitpicky about being able to see the cone, a wall with 16 18's iso would be a dream then lol
  12. I think I see what you're getting at, complete rigidity. Makes me want to recone to a 12 to make a tank of a box but not have it be half my bedroom lol. That being said, how should I make the best of this situation? Especially before getting the EP2500.
  13. The stone slab in the port is to cut port area til I add the brace next week. This is a learning experience, this is box number two that I've built like I said lol
  14. I have a few ideas of where I can go with that in mind;Is there a specific reason alltread is no good? I was thinking six or eight side to side, sandwiching each board between two nuts. Then three front to back, and four top to bottom. Then glass, then on to making it pretty and adding the spikes. I can wire and weld the allthread together where they intersect. I can also use those pipe style braces, and throw two four point braces in here.
  15. There's less box flex than the box it came from, which is a good start to me. But I want it rock solid before I liner it I'll admit my skill with a router is laughable, never used one before yesterday; between a few mishaps with forgetting blade thickness on the table saw and the router being less dummy proof than thought, I just took the easy way out in terms of the window bracing. What would you do for that 40" give or take beam I would've used? I know you'd probably not be in this position, but humor me.
  16. Did you catch what I posted up above? It's not 100% yet. It's plenty big to make adding more easy. I have a fatty brace to add to the port still, one from the top port wall to the top of the box, and two more from side to side. Port area isn't even correct on the lower part til I add that brace o.o
  17. Box is complete and playing. Does exactly what I wanted, louder the lower it goes, then drops off around 20. Want to bedliner the outside, and add one more beam from port to top panel for safe measure. Then I'm installing spikes and it's done. So so fuckin geeked. Sounds phenomenal compared to 4.5cu @ 35 with ~70 in of port. Gonma slap an EP2500 on it in a month or two. I'll take a few completed pictures once I clean up
  18. Blew a strut mount in the CRX so it's chillin in the driveway til Tuesday. I came up with another way to brace it since I wasnt able to grab a last sheet for some window bracing. I still need a piece to brace the end of the port, but it's pretty much done. Once braces dry, ima slap the side on and give it a listen. So excited. Only the second enclosure I've ever built and it's going far better than last time
  19. Too much Hennessey I'll finish it tomorrow lol But this is what I have so far. Different than originally planned, larger. Before disps it's 14.5cu int lol. Not sure where I ended up tuning, I think it'll be around 26-28.
  20. Happy birfday mang =]
  21. Eight twelves sealed and polyfilled?
