  1. This ^^You will be way better off going with a traditional mid, or if you really want the PA mids, fab a ported door pod. Otherwise you will never get them to sound the slightest bit musical. Loud and good are not synonymous. There are many options you could go with instead, and for less
  2. Are you running these IB or ported
  3. Out of this vehicle, I'd like it to be reliable. It's going to be the backup vehicle once I figure out what car comes next. Other vehicle was totaled a few weeks back, so it's back to square one. Sounds like a money intensive hobby, which means it's not for me.

I only paid 5 hundo for it, I could spend a paycheck on a tune if that's all it is. Why a waste? I stuck a cone filter on the end of my mass airflow and called it a day. Noticeable difference in response. Paid 40 bucks. Mileage even went up
  5. For the short term, what are some NA upgrades I can do for my mountaineer? I have a cai already and I don't see a point in boost, it's got 201k on it, I just want practice with stuff on it, $500 vehicle =) Basically anything I can do without pulling the motor or trans, things I can do myself as a novice If I keep the stock exhaust manifold and a cat, is there a point to a dual in dual out, or can I replace mine with a stock one. I like how quiet the stock one was before the bolts turned to dust and it fell off, I was going to replace it with a Walker quiet SS also, I read that anything over 4/32" difference from front to rear can burn out my vc in my awd, Is my fronts being bald and the rears having 50% tread enough to be paranoid? I can't get new tires till taxes come in. Using stock tire size, it's 235/75r15's
  6. Now, a much more useful question, if I'm interested in learning how to build motors for recreation, and don't know people personally that share the interest, what's a good place for me to start, besides reading about shit
  7. Like I said, it's because I love these trucks, not because it's practical You don't shoot heroin because it builds character and pays bills lmao I know it's something I want to do, but I don't know motors like that, I had no idea costs added up so fast. That being said, I've seen 12 second expos and blazers so I know it's doable. Maybe not for a decade but I mean, it's my dream, i'm not gonna forget I want it eh? I have dreams about my car when I sleep, it's almost all I think about. I don't get out much.
  8. Hmmm. Sounds like a diy once I park mine then. No way in hell is it for practicality, it's more like, I like my 5.0 alotttt and I love 2dr exploders. End idea was a 12 second SQ truck. If it's that much I could just snatch an Aviator instead. That's a nice compromise to me. Thanks guys
  9. How much would you budget for a full swap, removing the sohc v6, and swapping the awd drive train and v8 from a mountaineer into a 2dr exploder, start to finish? I plan to pick up a second donor vehicle by summer, so I'll have plenty of parts, but I've never been involved with a swap before. I'm definitely paying someone for labor, and taking notes. I've seen a few done, but all anyone remarks on price is "lots" which is frustrating. I'm hoping this project costs less than $6k to complete, 7500 tops
  10. There's two ways to go about it here: take advice from people who have spent years in the game, OR trial and error until you learn for yourself. The latter tends to help you learn the lesson for sure, but it's sure easier to let someone else make the mistake for you. I would know, I used to like to ask questions I didnt want to hear I was wrong about. It's learning bruh, it's a process. You wouldn't be asking us if you know how to achieve your goals.
  11. You're thinking about this all wrong, if you're trying to get loud outside of the car, listening to music doesn't seem like your core priority. Besides, that's a weird goal to chase, you can only reallllly hear my 2500w 18 " outside if I roll my windows down. Lot cooler to have a sleeper imo, than a box of cans rattling down the road. A properly designed box will play musically. When you hear peaky setups, or bad sounding systems, something wasn't done properly. If sealed boxed were inherently bad, I doubt we'd still use em I think they are one of, if not the easiest ways to get natural sounding bass provided it's the proper size for the driver.
  12. You specifically don't want a sealed driver, even if it's best for your application?
  13. I'm considering five Hst's sealed to replace my 18" BTL
  14. http://stereointegrity.com/product/hst12-12-subwoofer/ They also have an HST11 .5cuft required http://stereointegrity.com/product/hst11-11-subwoofer/
  15. Do a stereo Integrity HST12 sealed. .6cuft requirement. 1350rms iirc
  16. Overpowering isn't really the best way to net better performance. What do you want out of them that they can't currently do for you?
  17. *sweats* Do you know if there will be another run?
  18. Figured it out. Bought it through DB Electrical, it's cheap as hell, rated for 200a at 2k or something like that, and 100a at idle. Cost me like 250 shipped I figure it's a mix of, the regulator has to perceive the voltage drop before it ups current which happens too fast with music for it to be supported solely by the alt, and, no reserve. I guess up next is the pair of interstates. Do any of you know how to locate the oem dual alt bracket for the Ford 5.0? I have a perfectly good oem 130a alt on my desk now. Anyway, my voltage IS better, I just hadn't re set my gain, so Future was nothing but clipping the night I dropped the alt in. Backed the gain down til it got a hair quieter and no issues since. My voltmeter should arrive by the end of the month, so it'll get sorted out pretty soon I think.
  19. Christ Maybe I'm just not satisfied with the output
  20. So I finally got my 200a alt installed, but something odd happened when bumping now, I get more dimming, occasionally the amp protects for a moment then cut back on, but my battery voltage is on average higher. I was wondering if the former was due to me having only done the big two, as I have direct power and ground lines; the other, I mean, I think I had it gained a little high and now that it has what it needs, it's clipping like crazy trying to balance with the Sony signal. The hu is becoming a massive headache in that aspect. I lowered the gain, but I really want to be able to run my heat lights and stereo without issue =[ I do have only a single battery for now, I'm trying to figure out the biggest single cell I can fit under the hood of my truck right now. After that, I'm buying a pair of interstate 8D Batts for the trunk.
  21. They are hard to find now. Oh no.... Are they discontinued?
  22. I wouldn't mind, but adjusting the sub out level makes it very punchy which I don't like in a woofer
  23. Mostly upset because it was small enough to tuck behind my glovebox. Want to keep that same form factor, but a Zed Mikro is a bit much right now, so it looks like i'm just fix it and decide whether or not to throw it back in the truck.
  24. For one of the smartest people I know, you're a dumbass lmao Can't afford to be taking shortcuts.
  25. Haha ///M5 nobody has time to disconnect the negative battery, we take shortcuts around here. :Speakerboy doesn't have time not to.Seriously though. It does take all of one minute or so. More like the money to afford to, lbs
