Need some electrical advice for my first big (to me) build
Right now I was looking at jay-cee's first suggestion of the bigger alt and getting the biggest battery that would fit under the hood. That's where I was at with the Group 35 Platinum car battery. Am I at the right starting point???

Ok I'm lost I was looking at the under hood Platinums for cars. Do I need a marine battery under the hood?

I understand that, but as for under the hood I'm looking at the Sears Diehard Platinum that was suggested and the dimensions of the Group 35 seem to be a perfect fit. Should I look for an AGM as well or wait to see how it handles the power on the Group 35?

So any Diehard Platinum that will fit would be ideal?

So is there any "rule of thumb" as to what can be used? Or just measure and go as big as possible? And as for the alt...I could get a larger one elsewhere for twice the price. In my research so far people seem to be able to get away with a 200 amp on that power without any issues (with big 3 and big battery or 2). 200 amp x 12 volt = 2400 watts. 200 amp x 14 volts = 2800 watts. Granted the alt doesn't make that at idle. The battery is for reserve to fill in at peak moments. I'm sure I won't be running full tilt on this thing for the most part. It should be able to handle my needs. If not....lesson learned and go bigger. I used this product in my car. Worked great to fill body voids to block road noise. Good for bracing too, IF in the right application. Good to know. Maybe I can get the guys to turn this into a project for vehicle SPL purposes....worth a shot! LOL

Yes...space is limited everywhere in this thing. From my measurements it looks like the biggest battery that will fit will have to fall within 8"wx10"lx10"d. What would you suggest for that?

Here are links to a couple of the sound deadening products we make. Would either of these benefit me in any areas? I can get my hands on this pretty easily. http://www.lord.com/products-and-solutions/adhesives/automotive-repair-adhesives/product.xml/330 http://www.lord.com/products-and-solutions/adhesives/automotive-repair-adhesives/product.xml/1897

Need some electrical advice for my first big (to me) build
The company I work for makes spray on sound dampening material for use in the wheel wells and floor by car manufacturers. Would that benefit me in any other areas? But yes, the whole car is getting treatment. I never did any with my current setup thinking 300 watts wouldn't need it. Man was I wrong. The back doors ripple like crazy and have vibrated the handles loose already.

Gotcha. I knew that 10 looked mighty big compared to the motor. But thanks again man. After hearing Senchez's ride at the Sundown show I knew I was Ethos bound. Those things sound amazing!

Need some electrical advice for my first big (to me) build
Well my car (2004 Scion xB) is finally getting paid off next week so it's time to prepare for the upgrades. I just ordered my 12" Ethos and am planning on most likely a SQ2200D to power it. To begin with the front stage will be run off a Hifonics X14 X1200.4. The X14 is supposedly rated at 150x4 @4 and 300x4 @2. So total wattage should be around 3k RMS. I'm getting a 220 amp ho alt from Js Ultimate alts. I know I'm going to need a battery upgrade. Will I need an extra battery for the rear? My guess is yes, so I need to know what size and what to do as far as fusing/isolating/regulating the batteries and amps. I have some 1/0 cable for big 3 upgrade and will probably need to pick up more for the amp run. There will be a run of 1/0 for the SQ and a run of 4 ga for the X14. Thanks in advance and if there's someone who has a build log with a familiar setup could you point me in the right direction?

go with one 12 Just placed my order. I took out the false floor and was desperately looking for a way to make the 15 work, but with all that needs to go back there I think that 1.5 cu box is gonna give me the space that I need for everything else. Thanks Q for the discounts! Can't wait to get this thing jumping!! Time to start preparing the electrical. On a side note....aren't the pics for the 10" and 12" reversed? That 12 sure looks like a 10 and vice versa.

Thanks for all the input guys! I tried to multiquote but it's bugging on me so I'll answer all here. I'd really love to have a 15...especially now hearing everyone's response. Space is not going to be my friend here. I'm willing to sacrifice everything behind the rear seats, which isn't a lot. I still have a drum set to haul around and can just barely do that with the box I have now. Here is what I measure.... 37" wide, top of the seat (minus headrest) sits around the 17.5" mark, and from that point to the hatch is 17" (but that's touching each). The lower I go the more depth I have due to the seat's angle. Keep in mind though that I still have to fit 2 amps back there and I'm guessing I'll need an extra battery somewhere in there as well. One thing I could do is remove the false floor to give me more space to work with, since I have removed the small spare and carry a full size behind the passenger seat (18s and a temp spare don't give me the warm fuzzies).

Awesome! I'll be placing my order hopefully tomorrow. My only dilemma....12 or 15? I love the lows, but I also listen to a lot of rock/metal with a lot of fast paced double kick drums. I'm guessing a 12 would be the safest bet. Plus with the limited space I have I'm not sure the extra battery and amps would fit with a 15 back there.

Sundown Competition - Claremont NC - August 16th
Good to meet you last weekend man! That was an awesome show. Sencheezy was definitely a crowd pleaser. And thanks for talking me into that demo from Doug Fabio. That was a helluva way to break me in! Had no idea he was a 162 vehicle as well (although seeing the 6 Sundown SAZ-5000s first let me know I was in for a treat). lol Only bad thing was the Sundown sunburn!

You were definitely in high demand! I had backpack duty during one of the sessions. Had to keep stopping them from sliding off the roof down the windshield. Lol But good meeting you man. That's one NASTY build you got there! Can't embed from my phone, but here's a vid of one of your demos at the show. Congrats on the score!

Sundown Competition - Claremont NC - August 16th
I may ride down for this one since it's just 3 hours away. I'll only be spectating though, as I'm just a little pup. lol Really want to check out Sencheezy's build. The vids I've seen look brutal! Plus I want to hear these Ethos first hand since that's what I'm leaning towards with my upcoming build. I will be there. Heading down this after noon. Should be there around 10-11pm. Need to find a hotel as well. Sweet! I gotta get a demo from ya man. Never had one from a 150+ vehicle.

Ok so i have limited space and power for 2 tens
I gotta second the motion on the Dcons. I'm running 2 12s off a Kenwood 5 channel that's only pushing 300 to them. Noone can believe it's only 300 watts and the sq is AMAZING! They are ported though. Shakes the car pretty good for sure.

H/O Alternator?
From what I've seen and read they're a fairly new outfit but the people buying them are loving them so far. They have videos showing output comparable to Mechman's alts and for the price seem to be a bargain. However being so new in the game, only time will tell on the reliability. I just got a quote for my '04 xB from them a couple of days ago on a 220 amp. For the price quoted I think I'm going to give it a shot!
