$148 a piece, $135 a piece for two or more. Kent, 17 sq in of vent area sounds great.

Maybe you guys can help me?
Agreed.. sounds like 15's are the ticket for you my friend!

Sure a 0.5 cu ft vented box will work fine, but may get just a tad peaky between 35-55 Hz.. maximum of + 3 db around 37 Hz, so it shouldn't be too noticeable. Port area.. I'd say try 13 square inches for good luck

Hey Kent.. was playin' around in Leap today and figure that 0.3 cu ft net volume, tuned to 35 Hz will probably be your best bet for a ported enclosure. White Line = 0.3 cu ft to 35 Hz Red Line = 0.26 cu ft to 31 Hz Turquoise Line = 0.24 cu ft to 39 Hz Sorry 'bout the shiesty pic.. Leap wouldn't let me take a screen shot so I just busted out the digicam instead

RL-p 12 en route..amp suggestions?
.. and now to jack this thread back on topic Hey Matt! For powering your application, the RL-p is best suited for anywhere between 400-900wrms in my most humble opinion. You could go a little lower, but you will sacrifice some output.. and you could go a little higher, but the gains you'll get really aren't all that much, not to mention you'll be putting more stress on the driver, which I like to avoid whenever possible. About the "break in" period.. you can wang away as soon as you hook the woofer up! It is true that a driver's suspension will loosen up over time and such.. but there is no reason that you can't let that baby rip (figuratively speaking, of course ) right outta the box! B) Enjoy

> Is it even out yet??? Indeed, I have a whole slew of 'em sittin' in my stockroom. I've just been waiting for the magnet boots to come in so that I won't have to ship out the drivers with their privates showing Unfortunately, as I was down at TC all day yesterday, I found that the boots did in fact arrive from Ohio.. BUT that they sent the wrong ones! We had a box o' 2" x 5.25" boots, and I needed 2" x 5.75" boots So, the correct boots are being manufactured currently, which should take about two days.. on top of that, transit time from Ohio which will take another 5-6 days. If anyone wants a driver without the boot though, feel free to email me. I'll of course ship out the boot seperately down the line as well if you would like it. I guess this is kind of a blessing in disguise, since I don't have the redesigned products pages done quite yet anyway.. so this will give me time to make sure they come out the way I want them

Hehe.. it's the "stroke beard" smiley. One of the members over at the Shroomery.org website I help run through Mind Media, Inc., whipped it up because he always felt the need for a smiley to express "contemplation"

Now you can see why I discontinued the D2 lines They just don't move as quickly .. but if and when you do get 15 buyers lined up and ready to roll, give me the word and we'll make it so!

Man I would love to.. I'm instictively drawn towards wherever there's a grill and a fine selection of brews! If some magical fluke of time makes it so that I actually can, I may just!.. but who knows, I feel like time is speeding up these days as it is Cheers!

I swear some subwoofers look nuclear! The one above definitely looks pretty sweet - I like the integrated grill

Well even though you don't want me to answer... Let me just say that whatever the final recommended power range for these drivers may be, those limits should be followed diligently. If you underpower these, you really won't be getting any benefit over a traditional subwoofer driver.. if you overpower them beyond the stated maximum limits, you risk bottoming them out as too much power is just too much power and they will end up hitting the back plate. Since I figure a few people will probably end up throwing obscene amounts of power at these things despire our warnings, we are taking steps to ensure that in the event that these drivers do bottom out, they will be as protected as possible - mind you this does not mean anyone should throw unlimited power at them!.. so don't get any crazy ideas The proper use of these drivers will be extrapolated upon in detail on the website when they are available for release.

~750 wrms to each RL-p12 with 2 cu ft net volume per driver in a vented application will work just great. With your desired tuning of 28 Hz, I would suggest providing 80 square inches of gross port area.

As stated in my PM, the 1100 watts will be fine in a ~0.7 cu ft net volume enclosure, given the fact that you will be using this as a daily listening driver and not some extreme machine constantly being pushed to its limits

I don't have a physical storefront to speak of - but I'm about 12 miles north of downtown Los Angeles smack up against the San Gabrial mountains. We can work out a meeting once I get a final version of the driver in hand, which will probably take a few more weeks at least since we are ordering some new parts that aren't in house.

Nice Kent! Yea the 0.17 cu ft is the smallest recommended enclosure size I'd give, but it will make for a very nice non-peaky flat frequency response until it starts rolling off. Generally, anywhere between 0.17 - 0.5 cu ft sealed on these should be great. Ported, I still haven't had a chance to figure exactly, but the suggestion you made earlier sounds decent so I say give it a go and let us know what you think!

Very doubtful that we will implement the LMT on a 10" driver. But hey, anything could happen

Warbleed hit most of the points. I'm not about to get in a pissing contest with Mr. Wiggins, but I will make note that his V12 is not the same as a LM driver. You can clearly see that his driver did not produce a flat Bl curve, rather the traditional parabolic curve seen on most of today's drivers. The graph posted by Dan was misleading, since the scale used was quite a bit more lenient than the scale used on the initial TC LM Bl graph.. in reality, the LM drivers will have a Bl response similar to (and maybe even besting) the Parthenon, though granted the Parthenon will be able to provide more overall excursion. To Scale BL Graph Comparison: Adire's V12 Prototype vs. TC LMT Prototype With respect to comments about the Bl skyrocketing towards the ends of excursion, this simply is not true. The Bl will be perfectly flat without any peaks towards the end of the excursion limits. Due to the varied and increased coil windings throughout the length of the coil, there will be no distortion until the coil leaves the gap, at which point the Bl will drop off just like any other speaker when the coil starts to leave the gap. Thus, you won't see these LM drivers threatening to fly apart into pieces because when the coil starts to leave the gap, the Bl will drop off. Since this driver will be a very high excursion driver, the use of dual spiders was implemented to make the driver more protected against overexcursion for those people who insist on throwing thousands of watts of power at it. With respect to claims of high inductance - as I've stated previously, this really does not play much of a factor when dealing with low frequency drivers. Sure a higher inductance will cause some of the higher frequencies to roll off quicker, essentially acting as a quasi low-pass filter, but on a subwoofer, the target frequencies are low enough that this concern is a moot point. > is there still the possibility of sending out a demo sub around to a few select people? Most definitely yes! I just want to make sure we have a finalized version of the driver in hand before we start circulating it around. If you are interested in getting your hands on this bad boy, please contact me with your name and location, such that I may arrange a "tour" of the new LM driver in the most efficient route possible. Please realize not everyone will be able to get a shot at this, but I will make every effort to ensure that those of you serious about your bass, with the technical know how to properly exercise this new driver, will get your chance to test it out. All parties will be responsible for shipping the driver to the next tester after a period of 5-7 days.

guess what i got today???
Glad you received the driver ship shape. Notice the custom housing for the box? TC wasn't used to making 8 inch drivers so we ended up rigging a holding system with hot glue, spacer board from a shipment of various woofer parts, and chopped up cardboard bracing.. probably ended up being the most reliable protection for shipping we use! (but they all work of course B) ) Can't wait to hear your thoughts on it Kent. Now get crackin'! ...

RL-P 10"?
There indeed is a chance that we will come out with an RL-p 10" driver - however at the moment I am concentrating on the new LMT enabled drivers, so if we are to work some RL-p10's into the lineup, it won't be for a few months at least. No guarantees either, so don't hold your breath!

Allright everyone.. we are getting closer to a final mockup for the new LMT drivers. About that neo magnet, it is a thought for the future, but will not be available immediately and I couldn't estimate how long it will be before they are. So now, some revised numbers on the upcoming LMT drivers: Will be released in both 12" and 15" sizes Will be built upon the TC3HP motor Will offer up to 38.15 mm one way Xmax - True 3" peak to peak excursion! RMS rating of 800 watts - Peak power handling of 2 kW. Will use a 2ohm single linear voice coil Will feature a powdercoated black/grey chrome basket Will use 4 x (7.5" by 0.75") magnets Will carry dual 9.8" spiders Will sport super sexi black annodized aluminum cones Some preliminary spec's for the 12" model: Qts: 0.489 Fs: 22 Hz Vas: 57 L Sd: 501 cm^2 Some preliminary spec's for the 15" model: Qts: 0.535 Fs: 20 Hz Vas: 164.5 L Sd: 851 cm^2 Note: I am providing these spec's for your enjoyment - we may still end up tweaking a few things before we move with the final production.. and of course, if we do, I'll be lettin' ya know - same audio community, same audio forum!
