  1. In terms of our subwoofers, we went with aluminum cones for a couple reasons. First of all, they are stiff and strong, allowing for proper movement as well as a relative amount of wear and tear. Secondly, we use an adaptor on the bottom of our aluminum cone to connect it directly to the voicecoil. In so doing, the cone can double as a giant heatsink for the motor of the woofer whereas a paper cone would not. Finally, the cosmetics fit the bill for our tastes B) As has been stated, and I agree, cone material in a subwoofer doesn't make a huge difference when you have a well designed driver. It should be stiff and lightweight, and stand up to the heat, cold, and moisture that car speakers face daily. Any material that can satisfy those requirements should do well as a woofer cone.
  2. BG is LA-Z .. I think those sexy beasts he ordered are just collecting dust
  3. Cool - rignt now I'm not sure when exactly this will all come together. I'm in the process of moving at the moment so I won't have time to get crackin' on the HT projects quite yet. I have considered offering plate amp's and various DIY-HT products, but it's too early for me to give an ETA with any certainty.
  4. Nice Kent! I just helped my friend wire up two RL-i10's in an old enclosure he had layin' around previously with two Kicker CompVR's.. man, that thing wangs great off his old Pioneer amp giving only 190 watts per driver Well since I'm having some small issues of timeliness with production down at TC, I'm finding myself leaning towards inventorying more and more, rather than setting up my production as just-in-time system. So far as how many I'll keep in stock at any given time is hard to say, but I will be keeping a ready inventory rather than making to order. As Kent has mentioned elsewhere, I am going to start toying around with some home audio products and see if I can't make a sexy finished plug-in product for home theater use. Off the top of my head (may be getting a bit ahead of myself ), I'd only keep 1 or 2 of those in stock and make the rest to order since they will require more intensive production. I imagine home theater products won't be publicly available for quite some time though..
  5. Curiosity killed the cat.. but seeing as cats probably couldn't type out messages on this BB.. carry on :4123357f3da0f6e125a54: B)
  6. > what about ss stock? as in the stock market Negative.. I don't want to have to answer to shareholders - at least not for a very long time. I want to run this business as a friendly hobby-craft and not some corporation whose bottom line is the allmighty dollar
  7. Yep You hit the nail(s) on the head Kent!.. You been stalking me? I need to wait on printing for my 8" cones, which in the past has generally taken one month+. LMT looks like its going to another company as an exclusive contract, terms to be defined in approximately 3-4 weeks I've been told. The RL-i8 will be a TC2+ and capable of 300wrms easy Steve's quick departure from TC definitely came as a surprise and certainly didn't help TC any.. but they have hired another full time manager to help them on various projects so I'm sure things will smooth out in time. So far as product quality, Thilo has really been steppin' up the research and development over there so I'm expecting some killer fully finished home theater from them soon. The largest concern for SoundSplinter right now, with respect to TC, is long leadtimes on production. I'll just have to be more weary of my inventory to ensure popular drivers will stay in stock as often as possible.
  8. I figure most of the people on here have already heard what you have to say
  9. If you're lookin' for a woofer the likes of the Brahma, XXX, and Magnum.. You might want to consider checkin' out my Premium line too (shameless plug): http://www.soundsplinter.com Just some food for thought - hit me back if you have any questions. Take care,
  10. That Jackhammer is obscene to say the least! --> Link to still pics ----> Link to video pr0n
  11. SoundSplinter replied to Flip's topic in General Audio
    Very nice
  12. Well I'll likely only introduce one extra line at a time. Not sure if I will run with the tentative "UC" label either, as something more 'ultimate' is always bound to come out year after year The new 15" I'm proposing will likely be based on the TC3HP or LMT motor technology. The LMT is up in the air though since it hasn't been used in any massive production yet, and it may be offered as an exclusive 1 year contract to another company. I just have to wait and see on that one.. keep your fingers crossed (I know I will)
  13. > Mike have you thought of offering a 15" RL-i Yes, but I have a few reasons why I don't think I will do this. Mainly the fact that people using 15" drivers tend to be the type of people that would be more likely to push their hardware to its limits.. and quite frankly, I just don't want to throw a 15" cone on the TC2+ motor which has a smaller voicecoil than the Premium motors. I want to ensure that the products I carry have a very low rate of failure, and I'm afraid that people might over-estimate the capability of an RL-i15 and would rather offer less options to ensure that all the options I do offer are rock solid. I will have a new line launched hopefully by early summer that will feature another 15" model. It may not carry as thrifty a price tag as you would hope for in the proposed RL-i15, but it'll kick ass  > i guess my blatant shouting didn't help any?? Haha, are you kidding?! You're the man, without the wonderful support of people like you it would've been tougher (and more expensive ) to get the word out there. I definitely can't fail to recognize the awesome power of word of mouth and I thank you!
  14. Sd for the RL-p12 is 0.0471m^2
  15. Yea it is pretty cool. I always figured the products I carry (at the price I offer) would speak for themselves ..looks like they're doing just that! B) First priority at the moment is to restock 15" drivers.. those things went like hotcakes... and to think, I bought the least 15's out of any of my sizes At least now I know.. Next I'll be working on either 8" or 18" drivers, as well as a more powerful series.. but like I've said before, those may take a little while (i'd estimate between March and June
  16. Yea like I said in my email to you squeak.. the t/s param's are not the say-all end-all when it comes to making a great sounding enclosure. In fact, everytime I ask the engineers over at TC Sounds for exact advice to achieve certain specs, they tell me not to concern myself with the t/s param's as they are a bit limited in scope to deal with the variations in any real-world application. Thilo Stompler, the guy who designs all the drivers over there, has told me on more than one ocassion that there is much more to a driver than the t/s param's and people should really stop putting so much weight upon them (not to say that they aren't useful of course). Now I myself am by no means an expert on t/s param's and I am certainly learning as I go along - but I'd recommend stickin' with the sealed recommendations on the website, or go ported if you want extra low frequency extension.
  17. Congrat's mrray! I can't believe you were drawn 2nd. When I looked up the number I thought to myself, "KICK ASS" Now it looks like I rigged the damn thing .. now to call Make-A-Wish and throw them some cash! B)
  18. Raised $1173.01! Not too shabby B) Winning ticket numbers to be announced tomorrow  link
  19. Bummer to hear about that fallout. Let's hope the drivers will be easily repaired/replaced for Josh's sake. Sure sucks when a wrench gets thrown in things. =[ TC unexpectedly lost one of their engineers/managers that left without notice a few weeks ago, who may have been involved with that project though I don't really know. My production was slightly delayed but I took a trip down to the facility a week ago to make sure things were back on track with my drivers and after some manual inventory work things appear normal again. I don't know much about those uberwoofers save for what I've read on the internet. Good luck gettin' it all straightened out.
  20. Hey denim, you're a mod over there (caraudio.com), yes? If so, could you do me a favor and edit my first two posts in the thread so that they reflect the updated prize and ticket list? Mattj said he would, but I haven't heard from him since and the admins aren't responding to temporarily adjusting the edit limit over there :4123357f3da0f6e125a54: Anyways, I have the updated posts on page 7 of the thread. You'll see 'em. Just replace the first two main posts in their entirety.. if not, well I suppose we'll just deal with it
  21. Sweet! RE just joined in as well, with a whole shyteload of prizes up for grabs - so if you didn't see anything you liked before, take another look now and check out the growing list of sponsors. B)
