  1. Just wanted to drop a note over here to let you guys and gals know that SoundSplinter along with many other great companies (Adire, SecondSkin, and Incriminator Audio just to name a few) will be donating lots of excellent hardware, gift certificates, and promotional gear for donors who win a raffle to be held on January 3rd. Each entry is $5 and a comprehensive review of the rules and prizes can be found in the thread over at CarAudio.com: Holiday Donation Drive - WITH PRIZES! - (details within) So if you have a few bucks to spare you may as well help out a good cause and perhaps even pick up some great equipment if you're lucky! B) Happy Holidays everyone.
  2. You could.. but you'd have to be careful as not to keep it cranked up full tilt for too long. For normal everyday listening, an RL-p15 might just be the ticket. B)
  3. Heya Hilton, Been away for the Holidays, hence the delayed response. I should be returning to my usual hours by the end of this week. Unfortunately I caught a bug from my one of my nieces/nephews up here in Oregon that has me quite ill so hopefully I'll be on the mend soon The 150 - 300 wrms you're planning on feeding each driver will work just fine for a vented RL-i enclosure. If you click on the "Not Recommended" link in the enclosure recommendations, you'll be taken to our Online FAQ which does offer the following ported enclosure rec's for the RL-i series drivers: RL-i10 Vented: 1.8 - 2.5 ft3 tuned to 25 Hz with a 4" x 20" long vent RL-i12 Vented: 3 ft3 tuned to 22 Hz with a 4" x 20" long vent I hope that the 1.75 cu ft measure you offered up was per driver, as if not, I would not recommend housing two RL-i's in the box unless you remodeled it. It looks to me as if both your drivers are in their own enclosures side by side, in which case your current setup will perform acceptably with the RL-i10's, but your port area may not be optimal so it's up to you whether or not you want to try it out, as you may end up having to modify your enclosure for optimal performance. Let me know if you have any other questions.. I'll do my best to get back to you ASAP but until this coming weekend my schedule will be irregular.
  4. Thanks for the kind comments, Kent > How would you say 2 of the i series 10's > would do with around 800wrms for the pair? A solid 800wrms delivered to two RL-i10's will work great for a sealed setup. If you decide to vent them @ 400wrms/driver, take caution with respect to how long you run them at max power... thermal failure is not covered under our warranty - but as long as you are a responsible listener, there shouldn't be any problem.
  5. This thread has been addressed in the SoundSplinter forum (link).. admins/mods you may lock this topic.
  6. Hey ss454, > Who owned this company? I was originally contracted by TC Sounds to build a few websites for them which would aim to distribute a wide array of audio and theater-related equipment in addition to some select TC drivers. However, as of this past year the project was put on indefinite hiatus and I'm not sure if it will ever be picked up again. SoundSplinter was one of the websites I had designed for them, and upon realizing that it would go unused, they offered to OEM for me and allow me to run SoundSplinter independently. Long story short, SoundSplinter as a functioning business entity entered the market over this past summer 2004 and is owned by yours truly. > How do you sell your drivers? Our drivers are sold direct through our website. Production and shipping is slowly developing as time goes on, so how it works today may not be how it works in two months . We do carry an inventory of our drivers, and we will not sell a driver that is not in stock.. if by some mishap we end up doing so, the customer will be appraised of the situation and offered a refund should they desire not to wait for production to complete on the out-of-stock item. Hit me up in email if you have any other questions, as noted above, I'll be away from my desk for the next couple weeks but will still handle all inquiries received through our website or direct email. Thanks for your interest! =]
  7. 28 Hz. You can find this information on the Product Page by clicking "Enclosure Recommendations" I'll be heading northwards tomorrow for a couple weeks. Going to stop in Southern Oregon for Thanksgiving with my sisters, neices, and nephews, so I may not be around the boards as often until early December. However, if you need some questions answered you can always email me as I will be checking that on the road.
  8. That amplifier will work just fine with the RL-p15's. If you use four drivers on that one amp, I'd recommend porting them with 3.1 cu ft of net volume/driver for maximum effect (since it seems you have your sights set for high output), though running all four sealed with the 2400 wrms will still make for a great setup. If you only use two of the 15" drivers, I would keep them sealed, though you could port them so long as you don't run the two ported RL-p's with the full 2400 wrms for hours on end, since that could put too much thermal stress on the voicecoil. If you are a cautious and responsible listener however, you could get away with the two ported 15" RL-p's at 1200 wrms a piece with 2.5 cu ft of net volume/driver... just realize that fried voicecoils are not covered under the warranty. Let me know if you have any other questions.
  9. Hey trixter, Finally got full specs for all my drivers which will be up on the site soon. For now, here are your sensitivity specs for the RL-p12 2ohm and 4ohm drivers: RL-p12 2ohm dvc: Sensitivity: 88.81 dBSPL max @ 1W absorbed Re: 3.7 Ohms, DC resistance RL-p12 4ohm dvc: Sensitivity: 87.79 dBSPL max @ 1W absorbed Re: 6.26 Ohms, DC resistance These values are slightly different because the original values posted on the site were from a prototype driver, whereas these are tested from one of my finished production products. Give me a few days and I'll have the entire line of updated stats up on the site as well.
  10. Hah! I'll make sure to work a new letter for next time, I just whipped 'em up quickly 'cause I wanted something more interesting than a plain piece of paper to wrap them stickers in! Thanks for the feedback though guys, I will definitely be taking it into consideration and welcome anymore constructive criticism you may wish to throw at me. Some of you may have noticed the SoundSplinter website has been up and down as of late.. there have been some problems with my webhost's servers that are causing these issues, but email remains functioning. Hopefully this will all be resolved soon, else I'll be moving to a new host in the not so distant future. If anyone else wants stickers who hasn't received them, please PM or email me your address and I'll get some out to you asap. The stickers may be used indoor or outdoor. They do not have a thick UV coating however, so they won't last for a decade and if you live in areas prone to blizzards and other harsh climates you may not want to leave them outside, but they'll put up a good fight... I have one on each side of my car that's been truckin' for a few weeks with no problem. B)
  11. Just wanted to add that WinISD is a shakey bet for calculating driver paramters. If you enter only the electro-mechanical parameters it should be allright, but I've been told only WinISD Pro Alpha offers this option. The T/S specs listed on our site are from a 4ohm unit. Though a change in the Re parameter does affect the rest of the param's, there is very little difference between a 2 and 4 ohm driver. I will, however, work to get specs up for each iteration of the drivers I currently offer.
  12. I'll have more t/s parameters available coming this week. I have to run out the door now but I was skimmin' the caraudio.com forums and heard concern that I don't visit here anymore.. outrageous (and inaccurate) claims indeed! I also agree it would be very nice to integrate some of the modeling program info into my site.. which I will also work to get up there soon but I may have to head out of town for a bit later this week so let's just say it'll be up there when it'll be up there
  13. It'll be on its way this weekend
  14. Haven't started on any shirts yet. The guy who makes shirts for another website I run had a death in the family two days ago (his father) so he has flown out of town for the services. Whenever he returns I'll speak with him about soundsplinter shirts. I do however have some stickers that I'd be happy to send out to those who might want some. Just shoot me over a PM or an email with your address. B)
  15. Just workin' my a$$ off 'round here. Had to deal with some unforeseen literally last minute delays on my 2ohm Premium drivers so that's been an unwanted headache of monsterous proportion but it looks like they'll be ready to ship this week thank god! Otherwise just tying up the loose ends on the new user management system and beginning to look into some serious marketing. Development of the new beastly drivers as well as an 8" is still in the works. I will likely add the 8" off the TC2+ motor (the RL-i series), which will offer a strong option for smaller driver enthusiasts. Thanks for droppin' me the line, always nice to shout out every once in a while. So how have you been doin'?
  16. Well I'm not going to tell you that my subs are any better than the Re's or Magnum's, because it doesn't matter what I think anyway.. everyone will have a different preferance. I personally think they are a much better value however, and though Kent is right that I'm not one to advocate massive amounts of power, those amps you listed will work fine as long as you listen responsibly. Just realize that burned voicecoils and such fall under what I like to call customer negligence and will not be covered under warranty! I'm currently playing around with two of the RL-i drivers and a 3,000 watts, so it's not impossible to let the juice flow freely, you just have to use good judgement and caution when you do.Hit me up with an email (if you haven't already, just walked in the door and haven't ran through my messages yet today) and we can discuss more.
  17. Well I may personally be there, but SoundSplinter will not have its own stage this year. Still in the launching phase so to speak, working on developing new lines and such. If I'm there, I will be with TC Sounds and will surely PM you when my plans are finalized.
  18. Well thank you all for the feedback, keep it rollin' in. In the meantime, let me just state that while a budget 8" driver would be nice, seeing as I'm just starting out I don't want to spread myself too thin over too large of an inventory. As such, I'll probably make tlm happy in that I would shoot for more of an 'uber' 8 than a budget 8 since I would prefer SoundSplinter be known as an outfit with a very discerning taste for high quality product .. 18's are definitely a thought too, and should SoundSplinter continue to prove itself as successful as it has been now, in the long run, I will probably include larger drivers in the lineup. Don't hold your breath though, as I need to ensure everything is streamlined before I go tweakin' my inventory to obscene scopes! Some new 8's will likely be the first to hit my lineup, followed by a very durable high power monster. Thereafter.. the sky's the limit!
  19. Well as you may have read from other threads laying 'round the 'net, there has been some planning to produce a driver capable of very high power handling (up to 3 kW rms) which will probably be geared towards high SPL's for the home theater market. Formerly referred to as the UC (or, Ultimate Competition) driver, I feel that I should directly market it to the home theater crowd since it will be powerful enough to shake some huge home theater - but largely because of its robust suspension and hefty voicecoil which will allow it to take high input for extended periods which is not really necessary when competing in SPL contests, but becomes invaluable when designing a solid home theater setup. However, a woofer is a woofer and of course may be used in any application depending on how you go about it. So I'm sure this next driver will work exceptionally well in the competition scene. But for me personally, the whole idea of splurting out just a burp or three to get some high dB's isn't as enjoyable as letting the SPL's massage me for hours on end throughout a screening of a great media event like the Lord of the Rings flicks! I still have not yet worked out a final prototype for this new driver, and as has been stated (which I'm stickin' to!), it probably won't hit the market until Summer 2005. Now, I may release an 8" driver much earlier than the above date, as I've received a fair amount of response for them and I know TC Sounds has made some mean eight's in the past. In fact, I have a custom pair of 8's from them right now with double stacked magnets weighing in at a hefty 30-some pounds that are going in my car soon. Please feel free to let me know what you'd like to see so that I can better gauge what you all may want. Feedback rocks!
  20. Actually it's going in my wife's car, so technically....well....I gotta try it! I plan on running 2 12" PB SQL's in the not so distant future. Nope, still waiting...I imagine it should be any day now. Hey Trixter, thanks so much for your order! Unfortunately the adaptor used to connect the voicecoil to the cone on the new 2ohm units is currently en route to TC Sounds via air freight. It is scheduled to arrive before week's end and I'll be doing everything I can to ensure that your driver gets out ASAP. Realistically, your driver may not get shipped until the beginning of next week but should only take a few days to get to you from the date they leave. FYI, anytime issues like this come up, they will be made note of on my main page in the "News" scroll box. Sorry about the wait, but it'll be worth it!
  21. Welcome! This place is filled with great people and has been very good to me.. it should certainly benefit from your participation - glad to have you on board
  22. You never know! There will certainly come some times when I offer discounts to the members here at SSAudio, but when those times may come about, I cannot yet say
  23. Indeed a kickass job! Looks very clean You should open up a shop for custom installs . .. and while you're at it, carry some soundsplinter subs  B)
  24. Woops, sorry Kent .. but don't worry about having mentioned the UC project - I suppose that a little hype will do more good than harm! A side by side between the Eclipse drivers and the SoundSplinters would definitely be close... but of course it all depends on which specific lines you're using and how the testing application is constructed. Thanks Tirefryr about the logo compliment, one of my friends who is an aspiring artist left a exceptionally fine tipped permanent marker at my place one night. So I took it upon myself to draft up a few designs and that one ended up being my favorite. Snapped a digicam shot of it, cleaned it up in photoshop, and that's the story. Always nice to receive positive feedback
  25. First off, I'd like to express my most sincere thanks to denim and mrray13 for their support and assistance in getting this forum setup! The SSAudio community has shown itself to be friendly and informative, and I believe, the perfect home for SoundSplinter's online forum. That being said, allow me to tell you a little bit about myself. Name's Mike and I've always been a huge fan of music, both as a happy listener as well as a performer for my own personal enjoyment. I grew up on many years of formal keyboard/piano instruction but have since moved towards teaching myself the guitar as I have fallen in love with its portability and versatility. Having such a close connection with music, it mustn't be much of a surprise that I have quite the discerning ear for great sound. Being a friend and near relative to the managers over at TC Sounds, I realized that they had some absolutely phenomenal products, but that they weren't readily available to the general public save through a few of the larger audio companies who chose not to openly admit that TC Sounds is their original equipment manufacturer. I also noted that many of these companies were charging some very high rates for their products, in large part due to their name's popularity. So it's come about that I now offer a true TC2+ driver (the RL-i Series) as well as the beefier TC9 driver with upgraded suspension alongside modified parts (the RL-p Series), and most recently our TC3HP-modified Supreme Series being the first driver ever to feature Linear Motor Technology, all at extremely competitive rates. I am confident that these SoundSplinter drivers will truly deliver an aural experience to anyone exposed. They are made in the USA using high quality parts and the upmost care is taken in order to ensure that each driver is in working order and free from defects before being shipped to you. This forum is designed with the intent to provide people with a place to share their experiences with our products as well as discuss potential future products/applications, concerns, or anything that one may wish to discuss with respect to our company and its products. I will make a strong effort to be present on these boards, but if you need to get ahold of me urgently please contact me directly through our online form. I will personally respond to all inquiries we receive through our site as quickly as is possible. mrray13 will be helping me out here on the forums, as I can see that he has much love for this community in addition to experience with many SoundSplinter products. Feel free to stop by as often as you'd like, as I will periodically be offering special coupons to the members of SSAudio in appreciation for you all listenin' to me ramble on as such... Looking forward to providing many of you with some truly awesome drivers! Remember that I look forward to your feedback, as it's really the only way for me to gauge which direction(s) to take SoundSplinter.. so please feel free to post away for enclosure rec's, sales Q's, distribution, ideas for expansion, or even just to shoot the chit! Cheers! ~mike
