  1. Greg, right? First off, sealed boxes are very forgiving to small errors in construction - so if you don't mind taking a couple of hours to break out the tape measure, saw up some wood (MDF - medium density fiberboard), slap on some glue 'n screws, caulk the joints and paint her over.. you could save yourself some cash (which could be used to buy your own tools), and might even have some fun puttin' your own sweat into your finished product! Of course, time constraints can be a pain in the ass, and if for whatever reason you just don't want to do it yourself, you might try finding someone here on the forums who lives nearby and could help ya.. I know there are a few with the skills and who would be willing - you just gotta be mindful of distance, as long distance shipping can tack on unecessary expense. All else failing, you might try a service such as www.klausaudio.com -- Good luck!
  2. That has yet to be decided. We're just plowin' through a large production run of 15's and 12's, including recently completed RL-i10's, all featuring the tranditional metallic copper logo.. so it will be some time before you would start seeing the rest of the lineup featuring the laser etched logo. But if it is well received, it is likely that we will ultimately move in that direction. The impressions I receive from customers and onlookers is always taken into consideration when deciding which direction SoundSplinter should be moving in the future. So don't be shy on the feedback when the time comes!

Gross volume is a measure that depends on your displacements (i.e. how much bracing you use (if any), including the speaker itself), therefore I will only offer net volume suggestions (the amount of available airspace in your enclosure after everything has been installed), as I cannot guess as to what your total displacements will be! On that note, the RL-i10 will displace 0.1 cu ft of airspace, and I'm stickin' with my prior recommendation of around 1.6 cu ft net volume (0.8 cu ft net volume per driver) tuned to 32 Hz.. if you like to lean towards higher peak output, consider movin' up to 2.25 cu ft net volume betwen the two drivers, tuned around 32 - 34 Hz.

I would echo DevilDriver's sentiments. If you did opt for the dual ported, I would suggest throwin' those 8's in a combined 1.3 cu ft net volume enclosure, tuned around 33 Hz; or the 10's in a combined 1.6 cu ft net volume enclosure, tuned around 32 Hz. Since you probably won't be able to fit the 10's with adequate airspace, and the two 8's carry a higher combined expense (and would be more complicated to install) - the sealed single 12" seems like the most practical solution here.
  5. These are RL-p's and work off of the same motor design. Significant differences include the tall surround which allow for greater mechanical excursion capability, not to mention the whole thing about it being an 18" cone! Other than that, it will continue the RL-p tradition of offering incredibly linear, low distortion, high output woofage at a fantastic value when compared to any brick-and-mortar-retail-world woofer that is found in stores today (and still a excellent value when compared to woofers with similar direct distribution over the internet). Pictures and full specifications should be released next week! PS. RL-p15 D4's will be restocked at that time as well!
  6. So where's that email my man? Help me help you! Check your PM's...
  7. > I'd much prefer to give you the money than RE. Hehe.. well Fonzi, you know I wish I could take your money! Unforutnately this is not a request I'll abide, as due to extreme variations in the lead-time involved with sourcing the necessary parts and assembling the custom recone, I simply don't have the time to stay on top of the process. Must focus my energy on SoundSplinter products rather than one-offs.. and as noted, the recone would be done down in San Diego at TC Sounds anyway, so you may as well ask them directly: 858.622.1212
  8. flakko, please email all the customers who have products waiting to be shipped. I've been getting a couple of concerned emails asking what's up and I'm not sure they are actively checking this thread.
  9. Of course any driver which arrives blem'd or broken on arrival is eligeable for an exchange; though in the event of minor blemishes, some sort of alternate compensation is usually the most effective solution due to the lack of affected product performance, so long as you can hack stickin' with a slightly dented driver. As indicated directly to this buyer in private, shipping out a blem'd product is in no way intentional. When you have a large quantity of drivers produced on an assembly line, it's hard to catch every small defect. Not to say we don't try, but depending on how the light was hitting the cone at the time of testing, it probably wasn't noticed. Alternately, and also quite rare, small metal materials (I've seen anything from screws to paperclips to small metal files!) may catch onto the magnet boot during the packaging stage, and during the subsequent shipment can become dislodged and bounce around inside the shipping container, thereby producing small dents. In any case, I don't aim to leave the customer high and dry if this happens, and I apologize, post office, for the inconvenience. Check your email!
  10. Batter up! Good luck 60! You might also want to check out the following links I just posted [here].
  11. You guys might want to consider the following resources: JL's Tutorial on Ports CatStereo.com's Online Port Calculator (ignore the vent diameter calc and use the rec's on the SoundSplinter site) Generic Box Plan Calculator
  12. Yes currently they are only available in single 4 ohm. The 15" version will be coming out with some modified features on the next run, but there will be a fairly significant lead time involved and I would not expect the revamped RL-s15 to be available until mid-Fall at the earliest. el Dorado, keep your spam outta my forum!
  13. On the RL-p15, I would shoot for between 2.1 - 4.65 cu ft net volume sealed. If this is bein' thrown in a car, the 2.1 cu ft net volume figure will work out very nicely. For home, I'd lean towards the larger size, and perhaps even incorporate some low-end EQ, a Marchund mono bassis if you really want those extreme lows..
  14. SO.. the check's in the mail, right? PS. I'll need a couple hundred day's worth of lead-time on that order heh.
  15. Shoot for 2 cu ft net volume with the 28 Hz tuning, minimum 20 sq inches of port area.
  16. Playin' it by ear.. it could be gone tomorrow! (..or it may still be here in the Fall)
  17. As stated, we do not have our own merchant account or processing equipment for accepting credit orders directly. While we may attain this in the future, PayPal has worked just fine so far, the fees are quite comparable, and PayPal's dispute resolution process is slightly more even-keeled between the buyer and the seller, whereas merchant account reversals generally favor the buyer. In short, we do accept credit payments, through www.PayPal.com, quickly and for free
  18. Unless you're runnin' with an Infinite Baffle.. I would strongly advise attaining a larger amp for the RL-p. 240 watts will surely get it movin', but if you're going to buy such a capable driver, you may as well feed it accordingly, with anywhere from 500 - 1000 watts.
  19. You got it buddy, thanks for the order! =]
  20. Phew.. ! That was a lot of technical mumbo jumbo If you have any general questions, feel free to post 'em up right here .. and here's some eye candy to get that motivation a brewin'!

  25. Remember that if you play it slow and move up step by step, the speaker will tell you if it isn't liking the power. That aluminum cone is heatsinked right into the coil - so a practical way to judge how much of the thermal coil capacity you are using is simply to feel the cone of the driver after you've been giving it a workout. Warm is OK, but if it gets too warm/hot, then you're headin' towards trouble. Combine that technique alongside listening for any non-linear excursion / rubbing, and you should be able to maximize the power fairly safely. Just take it slow!
